There have been a few threads for this, but none as simple and explicit as this: Is there anyone here who plays Minecraft? If so, what's your username? And also general discussion on the game.
-
I used to play Minecraft but recently moved on from it. I lost interest in the game after a couple years of playing it nearly every day for hours. I ran a total of 5 servers over that time, 2 were private servers, one for just my ex and I. The last one was fairly successful but I closed it due to school and a lack of interest.
I learned a lot from Minecraft and the servers. I know more than most about running a server and have helped many people. Around here, though, I feel like a total noob - a lot of the furries on here know so much more than I do.
Truthfully, I could write for hours about Minecraft - it will always hold a place in my heart and memories.
My full MC story/bio, from my first day to my last can be found here: http://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/my-minecraft-story-3004741/ (http://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/my-minecraft-story-3004741/)
My servers page is here: http://www.planetminecraft.com/server/172survival-blulegend-ultimate-modded-survival/ (http://www.planetminecraft.com/server/172survival-blulegend-ultimate-modded-survival/) (keep in mind its closed now)

It's hard to describe accurately, but your history was just beautiful in a way. I really don't know what to say about that. I thought my story on Minecraft was long and great, but it's about as shallow as a puddle compared to that. It feels like the plot to a great story.
I might want to ask you to join a server with me, but I can see from that that there's no possibility whatsoever you would want to join another server.

I do feel a temptation to join a server with you and go back to my old days of playing on small servers and making friends. I am not sure how long it would last or how quickly I would get tired of MC again - thank you for taking the time to read the entire story.

Well I've read some pretty boring backstories, some that I had to put some real effort into reading until the end of. With this one, the problem with it was being able to stop reading it.
What's your username?
Also I think I know one of the players - Thorsbro. I can't remember where, but I have an uncanny ability to recognize (albeit vaguely) the name of every played I meet on minecraft, ever. The amount of players I remember totals between 50,000 and 500,000, but I know I've met Thorsbro once.

I used to play minecraft a lot, joined in when it was early stages of alpha.
Joined one of the first Aussie Alpha servers, joined a clan, rose up the ranks of the clan, had a massive clan war with another clan and our clan got booted off MC, haven't really played MC as much since, but been wanting to get back into it. My dream is to start a server that reproduces the glory days of alpha minecraft, the days where servers weren't run on iconomy, mo-creature's, faction mods and the like, where things were made by the community, trade was a case-by-case basis and cities rose and fell naturally as players created magnificent constructions and destroyed other players works. Sure there is greifing, sure there is war, there is chaos and disaster, but in at all it still feels real, and the ups and the downs make the game so much better. It's hard to find that on servers anymore.

I've wanted a server for a while, but my dad says 'its too expensive' and that he doesn't want someone on the server to hack it.
-
only way to "hack" a server is in the clint u add hacks to it that enable the ability to fly and such and normally you will know if they are cheating if you dont give them the rights to it
-
You can actually hack the server, not just use client mods, I had a guy do it on my server once. Basically there wasn't any measures to stop brute forcing so some-guy simply brute-forced the rcon password, got access to the remote console and was easily able to change any of the server files. Wasn't too difficult to fix, we just basically turned off the server, changed to a more secure password and added in a "banned if incorrectly guess the password 10 times" (This still leaves it vulnerable to brute force attacks ofc, because people can put in name/id/ip masks to trick the software, but it makes it more difficult). But the point is security does need to be taken into account and you can't just expect your server host to do it all for you!
Client mods are more difficult to battle against and usually it just comes down to human moderators enforcing it, rather than through software.

I got through periods of continuously playing nothing but Minecraft, and then I won't touch it for weeks on end. There is no inbetween.
My user is TheEndIsNearUs on there, and my current skin is actually my fursona.
