Yarn Tails




Yarn tails are an inexpensive way to add some furry to your outfit. A two tone tail will cost about $10 and 10 hours to make. The result is a soft, furry, and somewhat realistic looking tail. Although they can not easily be posed the lightweight and flexible design can be used to make completely custom designs that are comfortable to wear for hours - you may forget its there.

One of my favorite features is the how soft it is when a longer yarn tail brushes against your leg - something it will often do while walking. I have made five tails, two fox tails, two wolf tails, and one to match my fursona. They range from 1 foot to 3 feet, and all have different features. My latest tail is shown below, along with a few photos of the others.

Creating the tail takes about 10 hours, as mentioned before. The process is fairly simple once started, and very repetitive. My first couple tails were made out of yarn, and only yarn, however my newer ones have a metal clip to make them easier to wear. If anyone is interested I could post a tutorial on how to make said tails, however several are already available online. I used several to create my first tail - both videos and blogs. With each tail I learn new tricks and "secrets" on how to make it look better, and last longer. My original tail was the shorter fox tail with the black tip. I had used black yarn as the spine for the tail - unaware at the time that this would change the color of the tip. It was only days afterwards that I created the second fox tail to fix that issue. These two were used for a few weeks until my fursona changed - at which time I made two more tails.

The next two are not shown as I am too lazy to go take pictures, however one is a three foot grey tail with realism colors, it ended up taking a week to make and I have only warn it twice because the size is too big for me. Because of the size issue I quickly made the smaller grey tail, shown in the selfie above. This has been my go-to tail for a few months now.

The newest one to my collection is the same length as my second fox tail, a few inches longer than I wanted it to be. It carries the design of my latest fursona, a snow leopard. It uses a new style that I have come to call "highlights". The majority of the tail is white, however in five places there is a single tuft of bright blue and dark gray.[/td




Commissions?

If anyone is interested in commissioning a tail, I would be happy to negotiate such a thing. There would most likely be a $10 down payment for a custom design to help pay for supplies. Once the tail is finished it would be $15 + shipping to send the tail to you. Should you decide that the tail is not to your liking the tail would be sold as a premade to someone else for $15, there are no refunds on the $10 down payment.

Designs are limited to my abilities, which include: colored tips, stripes, bands, highlights (see newest tail), and random colors. Other ideas could be negotiated and attempted. A more realistic look could also be achieved by using multiple shades of the same color, however this would require buying a lot of yarn and would need to be discussed.

The prices stated above are negotiable and each commission would be unique. Every color that I do not have in stock would require me to go out and buy more yarn for $3 to $5/color. Because each tail uses several hundred yards of yarn, colors do not stay in stock for long.

It would be very different from what I've done before but it shouldn't be too hard.

I started a yarn tail of my own a while back and still havnt finished it. I want too but it probobly won't come back out of my closet until after october, too many other project in preparation for Crystal Fair Con until then  :(

I know these things are ludicrous to make though so yours are really nice!  :P
