Depending on what you are going to do, Gimp could work.

Photoshop CS2 which is free, now there's no excuse to use GIMP.

It should be noted that Rants and Advice is specifically for venting or personal advice on problems that effect you personally. For technical advice, there are other boards you can use (In this case it could be either Tech or Artwork, depending what you're using the animation for).

That's actually not correct. It was believed to have become free but it's really just a matter of the activation server being shut down.

"On behalf of Adobe Systems Incorporated …
You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!
What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don’t require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.) See <http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1114930>."

Also true, but this has only been said by Adobe to say that "Well just because we put a serial code that works next to the download link, doesn't mean you should use it o-okay?"

http://www.redmondpie.com/download-adobe-photoshop-cs2-for-free-legally-while-you-still-can/ (http://www.redmondpie.com/download-adobe-photoshop-cs2-for-free-legally-while-you-still-can/)

The only real "CS2 Requirement" is having an Adobe account, redmondpie is much more involved than Forbes, and CS3 is going to be next anyways. No reason to use GIMP, again.

It says rants AND ADVICE. It's not just for vents. I am asking for advice on animation

I think it's meant for advice on things like "Relationship issues", "My family thinks I'm weird" and similar things that's got to do with "you and/or you and others"rather than things like "Should I wear the green or the blue shirt on the party?" or "Do you think boiling eggs in the microwave is a good idea?"

I can see the confusion, which is why I wrote the post above. It's good to read the description of the board you are posting, the description is

Quote
This board is specifically for venting or asking personal advice. Read the rules before posting.

It specifically states "personal advice" not "any advice", personal advice is for an issue that effects you personally, not a technical issue

Those were some really funny examples tbh

If you want a free, easy to use animation program, the best program I can come up with is Pivot.

Pivot is a free stick-figure animator, basically it works on a frame by frame basis (unlike more advanced animation software that'll generate frames for you). It's a 2D animator (you can use your animation skills to make it appear 3D) and in general is used for very basic stick figure animating. The concept works that, you have a bunch of objects you can download or make, each object is made of LINES and CIRCLES. Every new line or circle in the object is connected by a pivot point (hence the name pivot), and you can move the pivot point to move the object in a certain way. Every object has a central pivot point that moves the entire object, it's incredibly simple and you can make some really awesome animations if you're willing to put in the time.

Here's a couple of example animations on youtube:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H69SC-tFyNY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H69SC-tFyNY)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PFJPg9BhSw (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PFJPg9BhSw)

And many more.

There's also a dedicated community for it here: http://droidz.org/index.php (http://droidz.org/index.php)
Download is here: http://pivotanimator.net/ (http://pivotanimator.net/)

Although you can make some very good animations, it takes a VERY long time. When I did animations I'd run at 33 frames per second, so 1,000 frames (which would take days to make) would only be 30 seconds of animation
