In the topic, furries and sexuality (http://www.thefurryforum.com/forums/index.php?topic=24115) and related 2014 Sexual Orientation Poll (http://www.thefurryforum.com/forums/index.php?topic=24597.0), discussions covered everything from the status of the fandom as a fetish or not, general statistics about members of the forum, and relation between the two, so as a more general survey I decided to give a large poll of all aspects of the group in general, for both data gathering and interesting trends. Please answer the questions truthfully, as answering what the 'right' answer seems to be will lead to wrong data and conclusions.
The poll may be a bit long, but I'm trying to get an idea of the general group's opinion.
Post any discussion or comments on the poll and/or it's results below.
Due to the restrictions on amount of questions (only 1) I can ask, Many of the questions asked are put in the answer section. Don't answer the questions, and only put 1 answer for each category.
Thanks ^_^

Update: Thanks to the 'furries in the US' subforum, I've made a graph of the approximate populations of furries in different states. I'll make a grayscale version soon. For some reason, it appears nobody lives in Vermont or South Dakota so I just left them blank. :/

You have to put a key on your graph, otherwise people won't know what the colours mean XD

I put the key not-so-obviously to the northwest of Washington. ;)
-
that's a very small key xD
-
you forgot us aussie furrys :D

I'm working on a worldwide furry map- it may be a little while.
I would also like to thank the 21 users who participated in the poll, it's doing well on its way to being able to interpret the data. Until then, keep voting, members who haven't voted.
-
Well, I'm a Wolf-Fox, so I thought I'd have to reply as other because I didn't see any Wolf variations. X3
-
Now, as I said earlier, I would like to thank the other 4 that voted. I finally have 25, so here's some data so far:
The average furry...
Has been in the fandom for a few (more than 1 and less than 5) years. (a pretty close call though)
Is into furries sexually (also a close call)
A fox (a close call with wolves or other)
19-21 years of age (yet another close call with 13-15)
Wants to have a fursuit, but does not have one (so far the only thing that's not an extremely close call)
Has met/never met another furry (tied)
Would like to be their fursona in real life
Note: I apologize, but I accidentally put down 2 votes in the last question, voting both 'maybe' and 'no' when I meant just to vote 'maybe'.
I also want to note that many of the things were very close calls. Plus, based on the differing time periods for the first question, technically the largest amount of furries had only been part of the fandom for a year or less. Plus, such a large amount of people abstained (6) or didn't vote (2) for the sexually-related question that it could be anything from 64% saying no to 68% saying yes.
I suppose the question for species is a bit redundant, as there is an entire subforum for it that I could just look at the data with, such as what I did with the USA.
And a large amount of furries (84%) are younger than 21, with a sudden dropoff above that age. (Possibly) Coincidentally the fandom started at the start of the 1980s, possibly earlier, making people born around that date 24 or younger. Often cited as the beginning of many members' interest, this was also a similar time to when cartoons or books about such a topic started to be made.
The topic of fursuiting is certainly debated among many, and there are approximately as many members of the fandom who are into it, as those who oppose it. I am among the latter, but have nothing against those who do. Gaining the reason behind this will need a separate sub-sub-sub poll.
I came up with a hypothesis early in joining the fandom that a possible reason that furries would make a fursona is that they envision it to be a better alternative to their current life. I was hoping putting the poll question would resolve my hypothesis either way, but the only thing it's successfully done is confuse me.

I'm an other. :P I'm a turtle. ^_^
-
Well at least one person listened. XP 11 others have yet to show themselves.
-
I'm other. I'm a lion. :) (there are no lion emoticons)
I plan to make my own suit (eventually) and have been trying to find meetups in my area because all of my furry friends (who I didn't convert myself) are online. I also REALLY want to go to some cons because all of my friends who go say they're so much fun.
-
I'm a lynx/dragon hybrid and I wouldn't like to have a full-body fursuit, I'd like to have the head, the tail and the paws, but just that.
-
i am a full dragon and a full fursuit is like 40 pounds or something i know i want a full fursuit and i haven't been to a con yet but i know from what i have been told cons are loads of fun
-
I'm other. If it isn't obvious, I'm the resident Dewott!
-
Well, I'm actually an Australian Shepherd, and it's my new and final fursona. Meet Cori! :3
I also change my mind, I want a fur suit, but don't have one.
-
I'm also other: Made up own species .
That, and I have multiple fursonas :)

Maybe You should make a world map when at it XD
Poor Dutchies always get left behind XD

I am representing the raccoon population... which happens to be like the 13th most popular species... just saying

Working on it as soon as I get the time.

When I made the poll, I was fairly new to the forum, so I hadn't had experience with what common species are. As a result, I got a larger amount of 'other' than I would otherwise.
-
Haha it all be good my friend. I just like laying down the facts
-
Looking at the answers it's nice to know that I'm not the only one.
-
I am surprised at the amount of furs that haven't met other furs IRL
-
my to-do list:
finish big comet list: 97% done
make US furry map: done
make world furry map: 0% done
do some fursona data mining: 0.5% done
-
Have fun with that
-
I found the member list includes what species everyone is, so I intend to do a full-scale study of the fursonas and see what place racoons are in.
-
i am scared by that answer ^
-
Have fun with that. Also the 13th place was according to furaffinity

I'm not the kind of guy who just takes facts. I'm the kind of guy who does a separate survey, some data collection, a study of where the other source got their data- comparing possible differences in data sources and their effects- and publishes the results whether or not the conflict or agree with the standing claim.
-
I am excited to see the end result. I wanted to know this for some time
-
I'm other. If it isn't obvious, I'm the resident Dewott!
Do pokemon count as a different subgroup, or are all individual pokemon a different subgroup?

Pokemon in general would be the subgroup, and each Pokemon would be the species~
-
I'll be including each species of animal, possible combinations, etc. which will eventually end up in a very lengthy post, but I'll be doing it for the purpose of data collection. I'm starting with my species survey now.
