As provided by Mark Van Sciver. I found this set of stories under the name of 'The Blind Pig', where a multitude of people wrote short stories about characters in this universe. The basic idea is that a virus called 'Martian flu' spread across the world, infecting a large portion of the population. This virus changed people's genetics so that they became partially or totally animal in form (as well as some other things).
