Title: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on December 15, 2013, 11:31:58 PM
The land of Seiryu has long since been the home of the most vicious and powerful creatures, races and monsters. It is the largest continent in the world, surrounded by small, island-like countries which look nothing more like pebbles on a map. Seiryu is home to elves, orcs, humans, Kin (furries) and dragons. Mountain clusters are littered in various parts of the land, connected by plains across the southern spans, the Central Desert glittering in the sun, and the frozen tundras of the north. Humans, Kin and orcs made up a majority of the larger societies while elves mostly lived in solitary in the forests of the east and west or within hidden valleys. All the species, however, avoided the Dragons. The top of mountain clusters and ruins of kingdoms long abandoned were the homes to these monsters, and they were larger than life. The average dragon had a body over 5-10 meters long, and 3 meters tall while just on their bellies. However, the most feared were the grand dragons, the longer lived monstrosities that have evolved beyond the others. They are normally found at treasure pits and hearts of the most mineral-rich mountains. Grand dragons differed in size and powers, depending on the element that they were born into.

In the last 3000 years of recorded history, legends and stories have been passed down. There was one legend that stood above the rest, which everyone in the world has always tried to find and coveted, the Life Stone. The Life Stone is said to be the tear of the Goddess Serenity during the Great Creation when the Demon God Karasu tried to destroy the world which she had created and the beings that she birthed to inhabit it. The stone was said to have been used by her to revive all the dead and restored the lands to their rightful place, but in turn meant the separation of the gods and demons from the material world. The stone is said to have the powers of bringing back the dead and rejuvenating whomever the beholder wished, including themselves.

The stone had been rumored to have been found several times in history, having been kept in a kingdom's court and lost later because of greed, to protect the world or because of the overtaking from dragons. In the last thousand years, it had merely become speculation, and not many actually believed in its existence. But that has never once stopped power-hungry warriors, thieves, greedy kings and the brave/broken of heart who seek to bring back their loved ones back to life. Many have sought it out, and all of have died. One of the biggest problems was dragons, and the other was the sheer number of legends and rumors, all of which have absolutely no credibility.

And here's where you come in. You're one of the many would-be adventurers who are going to attempt what history has proven impossible. You are experienced in your field, but you have never put them to use. You have always said you would go on an adventure, but you have always put it off, coming up with one excuse or another. However, on this fine, summer day, you happened upon an opportunity to finally change that dream into reality, and in the most unlikely of places. On the southeastern port of Holloway, a beaten adventurer seeks to bury his dead, and to find new members to his party.

You have your choice of classes for one of the following:

Name: Kiana Katar.
Age: 26.
Height: 5'6".
Species: Cheetah-Kin.
Class: Archer.
Weapon: A short bow sort of like this (http://silodrome.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/bear-grizzly-bow-recurve.jpg).
Description: Normal cheetah coloring and markings. Long black hair tied in a braid. Amber/gold eyes. This outfit (http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/i/2013/027/7/d/bolero_and_archer_dress_by_megatokyo_girl-d5svr3s.jpg) with black leggings.
Short Biography: Kiana has always been a bit of a loner. Her purebred parents always preferred her older brother over her. She still loved her brother and he was her best (and only) friend, but one day he was killed by someone just because he wouldn't give them his weapon. She witnessed the whole thing from where she was told to hide because he didn't want her to get hurt even though she was plenty old enough to fight. Ever since then she has stayed away from her parents who blame her for her brother's death and she has been trying to find a way to bring him back. Now she has figured out that she could possibly do so with the Life Stone and she plans to set out on a mission to find it.

A quick question,

As mythicalbeings are within this universe, as well as demons/angels have shaped the world. Is it allowed to use a furry/angelic type of character? As long as it off course fits within the application.... As such I am merely asking wether or not the heritage of one's character may be that of angelic heritage. Accompanied that the actuall reason and storyline for that characters is decent enough to find the Life Stone.

sorry, the angels and demons and gods are merely what was lost in legends. they were never allowed to remain in the material world after the usage of the Life Stone.

This definitely sounds fun.
But, um... For the Cleric class, you mean a religious character learning how to use their magical abilities right? If so, what's the religion like there? (Who do they worship, what gender predominates, what morals do they hold, etc)
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)
Post by: Suzumibachii on December 17, 2013, 07:43:36 PM
Name: Suzumibachi Aria
Age: 17
Height: 4'8
Species: Reptile - Iguana/bearded dragon hybrid
Class: Mage Academy Graduate
Weapon: Magical infused leather gloves (if allowed)

Description: Suzumi is rather short but surprisingly lean and well built for her species, Standing a mere 4'8 tall and barely even topping 120lbs. Her skin is a pale yet surprisingly clear shade of emerald green, save for her neck and stomach which is covered in pure white scales that are upon closer inspection much smaller in size and strength than the rest of her bodies scales. Her long raven black hair - when not tied up in its usual high pony tail hangs down to her waist . Her Deep crystal blue eyes seem to reflect pain and a distant coldness in them. Her attire is quite unlike what you would expect a mage to be wearing, Leather gloves with a single gem each embedded into the hide cover her hands black leather boots, loose fitting black cloth pants a black cloth shirt and a leather coat adorns her body, each item of clothing custom tailored to fit her body and allow her freedom of movement. She also has a very complex tattoo on her back. This is her tattoo (http://mmdprogramvocaloid.deviantart.com/art/Angelus-Lapsis-368517664/)

Short Biography: Suzumibachi never really knew her parents very well, her house was raided when she was barely 3 years old. Her parents hid her in a closet and it wasnt till a few days after the event that a old mage happened across their house, attracted by the crying child he investigated and realizing that she was now an orphan took her in. He became her father and mentor as she chose to follow his path of magic. When she turned 13 however a dispute between him(her mentor) and a student at the academy turned violent the student injuring the old man badly enough that in the next few weeks he succumbed to them and passed away. This singular incident changed Suzumi and not for the better, she became driven and withdrawn dedicating every waking moment to her training, and even developing her own form of fighting, preferring to using her magic at closer ranges than most mages. The gloves she wears allows her to handle magical energy and reinforce her physical attacks with it.(assuming I am allowed this if not I can change this) She seeks the stone to bring back her mentor feeling that it was not yet his time to move on and that the silly ambitions of one teenager caused her and the academy a loss that was unfair.

But, um... For the Cleric class, you mean a religious character learning how to use their magical abilities right? If so, what's the religion like there? (Who do they worship, what gender predominates, what morals do they hold, etc)

Clerics are those who just finished learning basic healing. In this world, clerics heal through the prayers and psalms of their god, which is why I did not include dancers and bards. As for religion, you have 6 different religions, which actually represent each of the 6 elements and the 6 gods of the past:
Serenity: Goddess of Light
Karasu: Demon God of Darkness
Hiro: God of Flames
Marcus: God of the Earth
Lupin: Mischievous God of Wind
Piro: Beautiful Goddess of Water

Healing users are all followers of Serenity.
Orcs mainly worship Karasu, saying he was merely misunderstood, and still function well in society.
Thieves tend to worship either Lupin or money.
Elves answer to either Piro or Serenity depending on which part of Seiryu they inhabit.
Humans and Kin worship all of them, depending on where in Seiryu they were raised in.

Clerical training is given the following titles:
-Choir Child
-Cleric
-Apprentice
-Ordained
-Father or Mother

@Suzumibachi - Looks good. However, arcane runes are one of the strongest types of magic used by a very select few who make the Tier 2 category. You're currently Tier 4 of 5. And your gloves would be okay if you have precious gems (limit 1 each) imbued into them. All mages require a proper stone to use certain elements of magic. As mages get stronger and get certified for new titles, their usages of the stones becomes stronger. (example: Mage can throw fireballs. High Mage can create large flame throwers. Elders can create walls of fire. Grand Mages can create fire phoenixes and manipulate existing magical fire.) Gloves are usually only used by prodigies due to fabrics being harder to channel Mana through than a staff, but your character bio can fit the bill, so you can keep them if you wish.

Name: Leo Cyrule
Age: 21
Height: 6ft 2in
Species: Desert Serval
Class: “Petty” thief.

Weapon: Two fighting daggers. Both have a very generic design for daggers. The blades were slim, but were made to be quite sturdy with little weight. But also maintaining the balance. Only one edge of the blades were sharpened, while the other side had been sharpened three inches from the point of the entire eleven inch blade. Rather than a normal balled bearing at the end of the handle, it has the design style of a blunted octohedran.

Description: A dark orange serval with gray spots lining his entire coat of fur. His body is a slim build, with some toned athletic muscular definition underneath his fur. However, for the most part this goes completely unnoticed. He is dressed in mostly cotton and canvas clothing. His leggings are made from a thick durable canvas cloth, and colorized to a dark gray. His shirt is a mixture of a light gray cotton,  and canvas of the same color over the shoulders and lining the back. On his neck is a leather collar with a family insignia, which is covered by a gray shawl. Over his waist, acting as the belt for his daggers is another gray cloth fashioned into a sash that also hides a set of lock picking tools, and a grapple hook.

Bio: Leo was born in a family branch of mastered thieves. Through out his life, he had been learning the skills of the trade. From stealth, to the more advanced slight of hand. And even the charismatic touch that all mastered thieves seem to have. But while trained by masters, he is far from it, as he has yet to experience a true grand hiest like the rest of his family. Which is where the life stone then comes in. He's heard of rumors of this precious object. Rumors that soon became more distinct with details that all now finally link together. Leo has no interest in the use of the Life Stone, and only wishes to collect it to become known as the master thief who stole the jewl of life.

tangle, you're going to have to include in your bio why your character is seeking the Life Stone. Also, that's an awfully high amount of gear for a petty thief. weapons are good, tho.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)

Edited to only have the single gem in each glove. Also thanks :)
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)
Post by: tangletail on December 18, 2013, 02:52:32 PM
Edited to have the Gem included. And honestly, I guess it all comes down to how you defined petty. If by petty thief, you mean it's exact term where it's a vegabond that steals small items. But has absolutely no training in the game, then I can go ahead and edit accordingly.

But I quoted the petty bit, because there is not exactly a distance he can go if his skills are pretty low. I wasn't really planning on having this character steal the more obvious things like coins from a counter, or someone's ring when they aren't looking. But go for bigger things with a more value and security. So if he is caught... he's not going to die as fast. Don't get me wrong, leather falls apart with enough smacks with a stick. Especially a metal sharpened one.

If you'd like still, I can remove the vest. That is literally the only portion of armor he's wearing. The Canvas and cloth clothing are just clothes design to tough out the environment and not rip as easily. But I am going to ask you if it's alright if he carry's the basic thieves tools? Grapple hook, rope, lockpick set.

Edited to only have the single gem in each glove. Also thanks :)

your gem choices:
Ruby - Fire
Sapphire - Water
Emerald - Earth
Topaz - Wind
Diamond - Light (Not available to you, unfortunately.)
Tourmaline - Dark

@Tangle -  He's supposed to be inexperienced at adventuring, not his trade. XD. But yes, lessening the equips would be good. Trying to balance all the different available classes. If you accept, you're approved to start.

@suzumibachi - the posting did say that the spoils are even split....

@tangletail - Korius can't be much of a giant when he's shorter than you.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)
Post by: tangletail on December 19, 2013, 01:58:43 PM
He's calling him a giant not because of size, but because he's using a sword that looks it weighs half a ton. If you've played pathfinder, Berserkers were usually jokingly called giants because by the time they reach mid game, they can throw something that weighs nearly two tons a hundred yards. It didn't matter if it was a halfling. You don't insult the size of a berserker. Unless they are a tea sipping, crumpet crunching kind.

" Her eyes only roamed over the newest piece of parchment for a couple seconds, just like the other pieces, before she left the tavern with her bow and arrows slung over her shoulder. "

Read this bit wrong then. Sorry bout that.

Also Modem is now replaced. So I can respond at normal time now. This means I can now take my time without having to run off somewhere after mooching internet from a coffee joint, or worrying that my net will die in three seconds.

Post Merge: December 21, 2013, 07:36:30 AM
I am also suspecting Shinzuu for playing dungeons and dragons at some point. Which reminds me.

If this is the case, please do not throw a torasque at us... or a hectacres. Those two monsters are just instantaneous death.

And just to make sure everything is squared away before I join, this'll be for the character I will use.

Name: Karina Natsumi Aekira
Age: 18
Species: Fox Kin
Class: Apprentice Archer
Weapon/Appearance/Height: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7586034/ (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7586034/) with some changes. First is the bow is currently not able to be split apart, but still has the blades on the ends. Second is that her clothing would be this style but green instead of blue. http://s7d4.scene7.com/is/image/CostumeSupercenter/IC11053? (http://s7d4.scene7.com/is/image/CostumeSupercenter/IC11053?)
Short Biography: Karina was born to a blacksmith couple, a wolf-kin father and a fox-kin mother. She was about eight when her parents were waylaid as they were going to retrieve more raw materials for their work, her mother dying from the attack and her father losing the ability to use his right arm. Having lost her mother, Karina started looking to the tales and legends of old for hope, hearing about the Life Stone's abilities. She self-trained with a bow that her blacksmith father made for her, showing promise in using it if she can refine her natural talent for it. She hopes to find the Life Stone to bring back her mother and to help her father regain use of his arm.

Short bio: Reno was an eager adventurer, though could never wander far from town. A volunteer watchmen on occasion was about all the adventure he could get. He had an affinity for wild creatures, as was his profession. The guards taught the eager rabbit how to use his sword to decent effect.

sorry, been SUPER busy since the New Years. just had time now to get back on.

Cuddles, I told you during our PMs that your tamer would be TRYING to get to that point, but as a novice tamer, you'd be using a short sword and be wearing very light armour.

Would leather armor work then? Also, could the big blue sword in which I desire be a family heirloom which was stolen and I wish to recover? To one day obtain.

Character Application:
Name: Helios Scopes
Age: 18
Height: 6’
Species: Lynx
Class: Newly Trained Swordsman
Weapon: Long Sword and Dagger
Description: Helios is tall, but lanky preferring quick movements and finesse to head on combat. He has normal coloration for a Lynx-kin, but having been born during a Solar Eclipse he was marked on his chest with sun symbol. His hair is light teal and his eyes a golden orange. He wears an open black hoodie, a typical pair of blue jeans, and a pair of black combat boots. His broad sword is snow white and generally strapped to his back.
Short Biography: Born the son of a poor man, Helios grew up working for the mayor of the town where he was born. When he was ten he fell in love with the mayor’s daughter Luna. The mayor, having come to love Helios like a son after Helios’s father died, the mayor was more than proud to take Helios into his family when Helios turned sixteen. Tragically on his wedding day the town where Helios lived was razed to the ground by a large and vicious black dragon. Being the only survivor left, Helios began to wander the world devoid of purpose. One day as he neared death in the wilderness he was rescued by a group of hunters. They took him to the local tavern and there he was taken in by a traveling Swordsman. In return for his service the Swordsman offered to train him in the art of sword play. After two years of traveling he was freed to go out into the world. But Helios only had one mission. Revenge against all dragon kind.

Welp, it's not that bad of a switch. It's almost an upgrade from the long sword if the user knows what the rivets on the blade are for.

I think he's mentioning serrated edges.

Ohhhhhh Okay that makes more sense
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)
Post by: tangletail on January 06, 2014, 04:01:07 AM
Yep. The serrated bits on the broad swords. They kinda jut out and tend to look like a design in the sword.

Well it's not to make the sword flashy. What it does is it makes the other person's sword vibrate violently in their hands as they go down the length. This makes them loose their grip on the blade, and allows the wielder to disarm them without much effort.

Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on January 06, 2014, 04:06:14 AM
Almost all broadswords are made with straight edges as they've been so mass produced over history. Specialized broadswords with serrated edges are rarely seen and used. Long-swords, though thinner, are extremely swift and normally have sharper cuts and much better for highly dexterous thrusts. So in actuality, broadswords are actually quite a down-grade.

Post by: tangletail on January 06, 2014, 04:14:57 AM
hm... now the big question of the day! Would you rather use a Long sword. Or a Rapier?

My selection is the Rapier.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on January 06, 2014, 04:18:36 AM
personally, I prefer a long-sword any day. the longer and thicker blade requires more strength, muscle control and dexterity than a rapier as I have 6 years experience with both weapons.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)
Post by: tangletail on January 06, 2014, 04:23:36 AM
Reason being is. It might not be made for war (which I doubt we will get into), but it's a really violent weapon. It just takes a stupid amount of training that other mass weapons couldn't produce. On top of all of that dexterity and some physical agility. Your movements will be mostly low lounges, or a mixture of un-armed martial arts.

Unlike modern day fencing. The Rapier is actually a weapon that takes advantage of people's errors, and turns it against them.

Most of the time, people will aim for the heart, the longues, the head with a stab that is already hard enough to predict where it's going if you aren't the holder. And if they don't kill you with the skewer, they finish you with the dagger in their other hand while you reel in pain.

I've had some experience with a rapier.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)
Post by: ShiroTenshiRyu on January 06, 2014, 04:34:56 AM
Personally I'd prefer a simple longsword. The finesse comes into play with the dagger. I prefer a curved one, it makes disarming easy especially with foes who stumble around with their swings XD

such a statement about a longsword really does show your inexperience with that class of weapon. an average longsword is roughly 4 1/2 feet long and as thick as a katana. the weight only affects your performance in a negative way if you're a novice. longsword art is a fast and "elegant" art which utilizes the blade as a whole. the real issue with real longswords is that they're expensive. in a 1v1 fight, it's pretty dead even with a rapier, but when it comes to fighting multiple people, the longsword is far superior.

Mmm... when I think of Swords. I think of this rule set based on what I learned in college.

Dagger: Stabby weapon. Can slash, but generally best done with the tip so it doesn't get stuck if you plan on a deep cut.
Short sword. Only slightly longer than a dagger. Normally a PDW.
------ Sword. around two to three feet. usually a bastard sword, chineese broad sword. Normal sword.
Broad Sword - Three feet long to three and a half. Pretty thick, but not stupidly thick. Stilleto design normally. Some Claymores.
Long Sword - Three to four feet long. Thiner blade but generally three inches thick. but I don't remember seeing anything as thin as a katana till the Renaissance era. Three feet versions can be used in one hand, and sometimes features a one and a half hand handle. Four foot versions have a two handed handle and are used in long sweeping and fluid motions, normally chained.

Rapier - PDW. Exteremely thin weapon, designed to flex easily. Normally three feet in length. Primary use is stab, can slash, but only with the tip much like a dagger, normally used to make people flinch, cut arteries, or to blind people. But I definately wouldn't be trying to parry a Long sword with it. :/ I would run away from the dude with the long sword.

But the real reason why I say the rapier requires more training is that soldiers train for a month with the long sword, And it doesn't take to long to get it's form down. But the rapier people will train for a good few years, and a good chunk of that time is spent stabbing at various targets, aiming directly for the red marker, which takes a long time to get down.

I don't want to sound like a douche, nor do I want to take this debate any longer than necessary. Anyone who practices for as many years or more years than I have can tell you that educational "rules" are far from true understanding and practicalities of actual usages and experiences. I've studied multiple sword arts for the last 20 years under highly respected masters, and the least experience I have is 4 years with claymores. You can even talk to my old military history instructor who has studied medieval swordplay for over 30 years and he could tell you the same thing. Weapon designs might have certain things in mind, but styles and users are what truly determine their efficiency and effectiveness in battle. Basing thoughts on theorems are a world different from true application.

End of discussion.

Well you weren't really sounding like a douche. And I didn't intend to argue. You already stated that you have far more knowledge on the topic than I. I was just listing what I knew on the topic. Plus we didn't really go by text book. We actually messed around with the weapons, and (attempted) to build smaller version of siege weapons up to about four feet tall.

The only weapons I can really claim some personal use on. Are knives, daggers, and rapiers (Not very long), and bare knuckles. Oh, and a police baton.

How large are the Cockatrice in this rp? I am not entirely sure what fantasy universe you are pulling these creature's from.

Are they DnD sized, where they are about the size of a Emu and capable of flight?

Or are they another size, and are they capable of flight?

okay, let me just say it's getting a little too tense out here. this is just a fun annual hunt with only 2-5 casualties a year. you're all novices trying to make it through. don't be afraid to throw in some epicly hilarious fails or lines or both. far too early in the RP to be so serious. XD

Alright! Now that-that's cleared up! (Don't know about him. But oh well, I only know marvel for Spiderman, Xmen, and Hulk.)
That cat looks more serious than a doctor telling his patient he has cancer. I don't know why he's asking that question. Shoooot he looks so evil that he should be petting an even smaller white cat.

I was also planning on having a HORRENDOUS fail after Leo makes the kill. Involving pie tins.

Now that I took the time to look at hawkeye on the marvel wiki. Why is it so hard for Heros to use guns? So far... it's only a small handful.

@Ben: your character is outside the allowed age range.  Also, death tamers are also called shadow tamers. The reason they're sometimes referred to as death tamers is because the creatures that they tame are associated with mass death.

Yeah, Hawkeye is Marvel (hence him being in The Avengers movie) and I believe he is amazing. Of course, I've only seen him in the movie, not comic books. But when you can shot something without even looking at it, then that's pretty badass. Although, he's not deaf in the movie like he is in the comics.

Anyway, just had to get that in there for the end of me talking about that. Now... *scurries off to read the RP*

Hey Shinzuu, long time!  :)

Just wanted to check whether this RP is still open to join or near full?  I haven't really been active on the forums recently after those few serious RPs I was involved with stopped and some difficult times in the last year, but looking to get back into it a little as I could do with a decent RP to have some fun with, and I remembered yours was a good one...

I am at the moment in an exam period at University, so for the next week or so I may not be able to post quite as often  (would try and post as regularly as possible though, at least once a day or so)  but once my exams are over I should be able to post regularly again  :)    Just wanted to see if it is still open and that is ok before going ahead with a character sheet.

Yeeeaaah. Sorry about my post. I had to rush it tonight, I also had to squeeze in an explanation on how the things died... rather than spontaneously having heart attacks because someone wrote their names into a death note. Reality is... I half assed this one. So sorry if it doesn't make much... sense.

Double hanging... same rope. Killing two birds with one rope.

Oh and it's four dead. One stabbed in the back by Leo. One cut down by Helios. Two strangled to death.

Name:   Kitt Fenris
Age:  20
Height:   5' 4"
Species: Wildcat-Kin
Class: Wildman/Amazon

Weapons:
A variety of throwing knives made from carven bone and teeth, similar to these.
http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/324/6/a/bone_dagger_2_by_rmikke-d4grrwg.jpg (http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/324/6/a/bone_dagger_2_by_rmikke-d4grrwg.jpg)

Readily replaced and easy to make, the blades make for a precise and lightning fast attack, however they lack the sharp edge of steel and as such are of little use against anything but lightly armoured targets.

In addition to this he carries a long-handled hatchet slung across his back. Roughly the length of his forearm and a half, heavy bladed head and handle wrapped with leather, adorned with feathers. It is as much a tool as it is a weapon, having seen as many tree trunks split as heads and more blood spilled while cutting a carcass than in fighting.

Description:
Kitt would never be one that you would call imposing. A feline of fairly short stature, thick cloud-grey and white fur mottled with darker stripes. Long fluffy-tipped ears and a thick striped tail give him an almost lynx-like appearance, but one that some would manage to distinguish as actually that of a wildcat.

The wildcat-kin wears clothing typical for his tribe, leather and hides adorned with feather and the boneclaws of feral predators. Most of his upper torso remains bare save for a hide covering over one shoulder and arm, attached to a thick fur collar and hood as well as a leather bandoleer crosswise over his chest which holds eight of his throwing knives, the rest carried in a bag along with the rest of his few possessions.

His most distinguishing features however are the cloth bindings that entirely cover his eyes, and the large crystal shard that hangs around his neck on a simple cord, nestled in the fur of his chest it is clear blue in colour and polished into a roughly oval shape that would fit neatly in the palm of a hand.

Short Biography:
For Kitt life has always been a struggle. Born into this world near-blind, for the young wildcat his early years would be a struggle. While his parents bore the blind child and raised him, he was treated no different to the rest and worked for his way in the village. To his unseeing eyes the world is comprised of naught but light and shadows, and as such he slowly learned to master the sense of hearing as a way to help judge his surroundings, for as displayed by their large feline ears, wildcats are well suited to such.

Despite his very nature the young feline was always said to have an unusual grace about him, and quickly earned a reputation as the best tracker in the village, able to stalk his prey for miles with the merest scent or markings. And while he was never the strongest, nor the wisest, a strong will to overcome his weakness gave the young feline the true heart of an adventurer as the elders would often repeat to any who would listen.

Now at twenty years of age Kitt has left his tribe behind, for a plague befell the village that struck down the youngest and the oldest, then slowly took the others one by one. One of the few still able to do so he left them in search of the fabled Life Stone, the only desperate chance left to save his dying family.

((Hope that is satisfactory Shinzuu  :)   Sorry for the length, I tend to do that a little while writing character sheets  XP ))

how about sundering clothes then? If they are distracted by a lycan who eats babies for candy (joke), they wouldn't notice a rogue slipping by cutting belts, on a jump in and out gig.
It will be hellacious to fight when your clothes are falling off and tripping you up.

An amazon and a wildman. They're barely wearing anything as it is. There's no shame with them. And the other two have a tamed Cockatrice and a tamed baby dragon. One with a sword and the other with a whip. With the bonds that they formed with their creatures, you can't exactly sneak up on them.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)

Not much a rogue with few gadgets can do in this situation. Alright... and the other two are located where?

Post Merge: January 17, 2014, 05:12:03 AM
I just realized you said I couldn't steal... not sneak up on. :I

Does this mean I can still catch someone unaware? Granted that the animal companions would have to scent, hear or spot Leo, which would be pretty difficult if he's coming from down wind. Even more so if helios is trying to kill one of the pets. <.<;
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on January 17, 2014, 12:04:19 PM
the last sentence of my last post said that you can't sneak up on them.... -_-'''

For those who don't know, from all your perspectives, you have Korius directly in front of you, the wildman and amazon next. Between them and the female is the tamed male Cockatrice, and behind the female is the baby dragon. on either side of the female are the tamers.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Open)
Post by: tangletail on January 17, 2014, 06:23:27 PM
Eh, changing at this point would be metagame. But what I was saying is that the pets will likely be distracted with helios who plans on killing one. but now that I know where the tamers are, not likely. Oh well, I guess Leo can take a flank to make life easier.

Hello!  I was wondering if my mate and I could join in on the rp?  I do have a character ready that I have been wanting to rp for a while now!  Also, if we are allowed in I would highly appreciate a summary of events.
Character Application:

Name:  Anoi Firepaw
Age: 21
Height: 4'5''
Species:  Red Panda Kin
Class: Mage Academy Graduate
Weapon: A simple dagger.
Description: Anoi is a female Red Panda kin.  She is short like much of her kind and hast the normal markings of a red panda.  She has shoulder length orange hair.  She is chubby, not overweight.  She has blue eyes and tries to keep her fur as clean and soft as she can.  She tends to wear silk dresses of red and blue with gold filigree on them.  When she is traveling she tends to wear brown traveling clothes and furs when it is cold.
Short Biography: Anoi comes from a thick forested land that exists at the base of a mountain chain in the north.  Hardly uncivilized, she grew up in a rich merchants family.  From a young age she displayed magical prowess, but she could never explain how she did it.  Things just happened around her, a vase would be thrown off a table when she was upset or the fire would flare up when she was surprised.  As she grew older she realized that she was not the only one responsible for these things.  Another presence seemed to be connected to her, but she could not explain it.  She desired to learn more about this entity and about her inherent magical abilities.  So, when she came of age she left her home and attended the mage academy.  She succeeded at all her classes and her studies into who the other was did prove fruitful.  She learned that it was some kind of spirit that was attached to her but that much took her four years to discover as the other was elusive and there was very little information concerning spirits.  While she was in the mage academy she met a Fox kin who she fell in love with.  When she graduated she left the academy with her love and went on an adventure to learn more about the entity which has led her to the current events of the rp.

It looks good, for the most part. There are just some minor changes that need to be made:
-Mages can only have 1 none-lethal weapon which is embedded with the stone of the element that they are harnessing.
-You need to have a reason for your character to be searching for the Life Stone.
-Every player's character has zero experience with any type of adventure.
-You can only have 1 character, atm.

The reason why she seeks the life stone is to further her study of the spirit that is connected to her.  She believes that using it she will be able to speak to the spirit directly.

I believe that fixed it?  Also, I will only have one character.  The spirit is a part of that character and my mate is the one who will be playing the Fox kin once I get her to post her app. XD

Before I post an character thing, I have a few questions!

Could I be a petty thief that knows a few spells, but never graduated from the magic academy?  Does being an Amazon mean that I have to have come from a tribe/spent little time among civilized society?

What are the magic rules of the setting?  What's required to cast a spell, and how does it work out?  Do only Graduates get to use it?  What are the equipment kits for the various 'classes' and can I mix and match some?  Like, give up some spellcasting to mix with the Amazon type?  Or should I just stick to the six available?

Thanks!

@Ellie: You're set and approved. I'll try to determine when you can join us.

@Rosanna: There's no mixing of classes, unfortunately. As for being an Amazon, you don't necessarily have to have been born into a tribe. It's true the original Amazons are, but many women go to their villages to train to become one of them. Each class requires a life commitment in order to master them.

Okay.  Then could I take the Amazon 'class' and use it like a hunter?  Or are we limited to just the selected starting paths?

Sorry if I'm bothering you with all the questions, I'm just trying to get a feel for the world and it's rules, so I can create the character I wanna play, without stepping on anyone's paws.

It's no problem. Questions are there to prevent future confusion.

The world plays that your characters have absolutely no experiences in applying your skills. The Amazon class is limited to spears, javelins and staffs. Like Wildmen, they are more raw power-based classes who are known for their strength, speed and large/long weapons that require abnormal strength to yield. To make the classes more balanced, I had decided to remove light weapons from the typical Amazon stereotype.

Name: Keio Brushtail
Age: 21
Height: 4'2"
Species: Foxkin
Class: Petty Thief
Weapon: A selection of small knives and daggers.
Description: Keio is surprisingly short for her species, and rail thin.  Never a person of wealth and power, she tends to dress in accordance with what she can afford at the time.  Most often of late that tends to be a simple linen jerkin, and a pair of plain pants.  She carries herself like an acrobat, full of poise and grace.  Her fur is a pale blonde color, with white on her belly and tailtip.  Her eyes are mismatched, the right eye is gold, and the left eye is green.  Hidden on her person are four knives, the only weapons she carries with her, and with the exception of one small dagger, barely able to be considered a letter opener, the rest are balanced for throwing and used for self defense.
Short Biography: Keio was born into an impoverished family in the city.  Ever since she was a kit, she'd been getting into trouble.  Stealing candy from a shop, or nicking a coin purse as she ran by.  As she grew, her skills improved, and she learned that she and her family needed coin to survive.  Then, desperate for more coin, she took on a bigger job.  Theft from the Magic Academy in the city, where she was caught.  Her punishment was to perform menial labor for the Academy, where she met Anoi and fell in love.  The work she performed was good exercise, helping her to become stronger.  At the samt time, Anoi educated her in things like history, maths, science, and legends.

Thus, it was her idea that the two search for the Life Stone.  Such an item would undoubtedly give them enough money to live, and live well.

Nope, the father's in the smithy, working on the bow some more. Karina is in bed though. Also, Shinzuu, there was one empty keg from the blacksmith, one empty keg from the berserker. And this is why Leo does NOT hold onto stolen items for an extended time unless the area is to large, or he is leaving town. Or if he had a safe location to hold them, which he doesn't at the moment.

Annnnnnnnd how far does 5 gold coins go? I know that 10 silver coins creates gold coins, and 10 copper coins create silver coins, or 100 coins create one gold coin. In some fantasy worlds though.

With that last bit, I'm assuming it's similar to standard Dungeons and Dragons currencies.  Which has unskilled labor being set at like, two to four copper pieces a day.

In which case, five gold is a lot of money.

And in Keio's defense, once she got to her safe place, she was gonna take the gems off the gloves and sell the gems, and toss the gloves.  And she didn't take the monies!
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on January 29, 2014, 11:41:59 PM
The monies may be Leo's fault. >.>; No one gave him money to use to buy medical equipment and he was thinking for the best of his team! And trying to be useful!

Besides... he got rid of the incriminating evidence! And he probably had more than five coins as he did pick pocket quite a few people...

EDIT: And how is an Elf unskilled? I find it pretty hard to believe that those pompous pricks could actually muster to be broke.

 XD

Not many elves in the parties I run, actually.  People tend for the stranger races in my Pathfinder games.

But just because it's an elf doesn't make it skillful.  One need only look at some of Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim's Bosmer and what not.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)

Thats Elder Scrolls though :/. And lets face it, most of the time in morrowind the area was pretty broke. Skyrim, the elves were kinda shunned, so buisness went down severely. There seemed to be more aristrocrats then broke elves though. And the thalmore was also in the area. And in Oblivion, a good lot of em were rich, and a few were thieves. Only two of them were actually worthless.

copper and silver coins are the common currency. gold coins are a rare find. our reward for the Hunt was a bag of silver coins. the exchange rate stands 1,000 to the next up. Karina's father is an extremely successful blacksmith thanks to the Hunt so the amount of coins he has and has saved is very feasible.

Before I post... exactly what out of that armor selection can a thief wear?

I know that the Chain Mail is out of the question, so is the Brig (kinda sorta chain mail?).
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Vosur Aekira on February 07, 2014, 05:31:35 AM
Brigandine is more like clothes with armor plates sewn into them, and a gambeson might be ideal since it's pretty much a padded jacket that's usually worn underneath armor. It is often worn as training armor as well.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on February 07, 2014, 07:30:24 AM
The quilted armor...

Alright. Any of that thin and quiet (or modified to be with the gauze that no one apparently wants to use) with plenty of belts for pouches? I plan on having Leo rely more on his acrobatic talents, and reflexes and partially on armor. The leather tunic sounds more like it really. Just not sure exactly what everything is because... well this is the first time I have heard of these names.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on February 07, 2014, 12:40:17 PM
For a thief of your caliber, you're looking at light leather or plain cloth. however, as we progress through the RP (and I am talking about at least a few months in RP time), your characters will become stronger that they'll be able to don light chainmail or even brigandines. quilted armor is actually quite thick and cumbersome, restricting movements. there are, however, special cloaks specifically designed for thieves that are lighter and react to their environment's lighting. The lighter it is, the cloak almost seems to help the user vanish into the environment when they unhook it and completely unfold it. At night, the thief seems to almost disappear in the darkness. Still visible, but unseen by those none expecting. In fact, 80% of Ghost sightings throughout this world are actually thieves with the money to get a hold on these expensive capes. However, like all capes, they do wear down over a long period of time.

Post by: Vosur Aekira on February 07, 2014, 04:18:23 PM
Then he might be better off with a modified gambeson made into a vest. That's easy enough to do without being TOO cumbersome.  And might I recommend a buckler of steel, Shiro? That might be better than a mahogany one.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on February 07, 2014, 05:52:27 PM
I call the gambeson quilted armor because it looks exactly like it once I googled it

Anyways, does he have varying designs on the armor? Sacrificing some protection for utility purpose and light weights? Or will Leo be able to modify it later on to fit his needs?
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Vosur Aekira on February 07, 2014, 06:52:45 PM
He mostly deals with metals, mostly iron though since that is what a "blacksmith" usually works with... though some leather vests and such would be worn underneath regular armor as anti-chafing protection. As for wire-cutters, those would be his own tools for making chain-mail, though a prybar would be an uncommon (and bulky) request. Your better bet would be a lock-smith's kit.

Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on February 08, 2014, 06:45:15 AM
The prybar? Depends on the design. It's a little different from the crow bar. All it is, is a strait flat rod where one end sort of looks like the end of a blade. It's still a crowbar. But unlike the crowbar, it's meant for splitting and prying things, rather than ripping stuff off. In the hands of a thief. Pretty useful if you don't have time to open a chest, or a heavy door, so you just need to bust it open. And an extra weapon.

Also, he asked about the wire cutters for a safer way to disable traps, as well to make a handful of caltrops for the future. Imagine trying to cut something with a dagger when just a slight tug is enough to actually trigger the darn thing.

Oh and Shiro. Your normal clothes can also act as a dampener between his body and the armor he wears.

EDIT: After messing around with Canvas for an art project. Holy crap this stuff is durable. My knife can't cut through it without some CONSIDERABLE effort. I might as well just go with a vest or leather doublet, and wear the canvas clothing.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Vosur Aekira on February 08, 2014, 07:34:08 AM
Wire-cutters are a blacksmith's tools for making chainmail, so he might make one extra set for himself, a prybar would still be something bulky, although he would have one made.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on February 08, 2014, 07:44:33 AM
Depends on the size I suppose. The one I own, is only about thirteen inches long, an inch and a half wide. It's pretty hefty, but it takes quite a bit of force to open something thanks to it lacking the leverage.

picking tools would be acceptable, Vosur, since Tangle's character is the type to specializing in that field. even though we have 2 thieves in our party now, their specialties are quite different from each other so it would make a good balance.

Didn't even think about armor. Such an odd concept XD At least the thought of heavy armor is. I usually prefer a character who uses finesse so I'm normally never in anything heavier then the light chainmail.

So far, the choices that are available to the thieves are:

Grapnel-and-line
Lock-pick/trap-disarming set with wire-cutters
Leather clothing (usually anti-chaffing gear for armor)

You don't really need a prybar anyway.  Anything straight and metal with a narrow tip would work.  Like a knife, or a sword.

As for the throwing knives, those were stopped. The weapons are made custom to the user mostly. The arrows were alright because they're common equipment.

Not actually true, really.  Throwing knives are just balanced upon the hilt.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Throwing_knife (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Throwing_knife)

They're not tailored to the user, though they can be if they're custom made expensive ones.

I am a little curious on the skill set differences between the two. Care to enlighten me so I can make sure it stays X3.

You don't really need a prybar anyway.  Anything straight and metal with a narrow tip would work.  Like a knife, or a sword.

 ^_^

If you look at Leo's daggers, then you would see why that would be the last thing Leo would ever do. They are pretty thin, and would likely bend or break if applied with a lot of pressure on one point.

Besides, the pry bar can actually do more than a sword or a knife without ruining it :P. Bust open heavy doors, Lift stone blocks, break mortar to a panel that covers a trap's inner working.

And lastly. A throwing dagger doesn't even need to be balanced or custom tailored. Technically, any knife can be thrown as long as the blade is designed in a special manner. I have about ten of them. Only three are balanced, and the rest are heavier on the handle.

Also... a Kunai is not a throwing knife, nor a good weapon.... I am very grateful that I have yet to see that option mentioned Vosur <.<. It's just a prison shank.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Vosur Aekira on February 09, 2014, 05:58:58 AM
It's actually a modified shovel, not a 'shank'. Also, I've been told no new weapons, but the tools and armor are allowed for now.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on February 09, 2014, 06:56:34 AM
I call it a prison shank because of modern media tends to use the stupid things as the "Best rogue/ninja/assassin weapon of all time" when really... it's better suited for shanking if you actually fight with it. But... it works as a climbing piton though... I think? Sort of looks like one.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on February 10, 2014, 01:07:34 AM
Tangle, just so you know, wire cutters in this world are just very small blades that are so sharp that the blade's edge is clear for 1mm.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on February 10, 2014, 02:04:54 AM
Wait. Blade as in an exacto knife? Or the normal wire cutters, with just a small nose.

If it's an exacto knife... then you are probably giving Leo a tool that can do more than wire cutting.

I will have to stop you there, Shinzuu. If this is a Middle Age-themed roleplay, and there is chainmail, then there ARE wire-cutters. And yes, they did look rather similar to the wire-cutters we have nowadays, albeit a little bulkier.

Image of wire-cutters and pliers in use. (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a9/Fotothek_df_tg_0008481_St%C3%A4ndebuch_%5E_Handwerk_%5E_Plattner_%5E_R%C3%BCstung_%5E_Harnisch_%5E_Kettenhemd.jpg) for a picture on their use.

the cell doors are perfectly intact, the ice that encased them never having thawed over the years, and no actual exposure to the elements. Doors will either be jammed shut while crooked in the floor, or perfectly fine. But yes, they will creak a little if they're not swinging exactly parallel (i.e. pressing down on the door as you open it.). Some of the cells will be in perfect condition so you won't be able to go through those except open the doors. Some will have holes in the walls, be missing walls and some will have no ceiling. It's basically a labyrinth by itself.

First of all I want to say sorry for not getting back to you guys sooner.  This past week was midterms week at the college and I was unable to think of anything else.  It is my fault that I have been keeping you guys waiting and I will take full responsability.

Secondly.  Rosey and I are going to be backing out of the RP.  It is obvious that we cannot post quick enough for your flow of rp even though I do not agree with the fact that rp should be sped up just because others cant post quick enough.  I also find myself unwilling to be forced into situations without my character being able to maybe step up and say something first.  So, Rosey and I have determined that it would be best for us to just step out of the rp.

In order to do this I will be posting one last time having Anoi leave the group after running away from the dragon.  And Rosey will be doing the same.  I hope you guys have fun.

Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on March 02, 2014, 02:59:48 PM
The rules were specific that you have to give notification in the OOC if you are going to be gone for a prolonged period of time. The rule was put in place to prevent the RP from becoming stale. Parts that involve battles result in shorter and more frequent posts. If you disappear without a word, you're essentially killing the RP. Continue to study hard and good luck in your endeavors.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on March 02, 2014, 03:08:40 PM
Good luck and do your best. ;-;

That reminds me... I have good news. I will be transferring out for the fall semester to UNT with a small scholarship.

If the RP goes on long enough to see August, then I hope you understand why it'll be taking me a bit.

Didn't intend to knock the pillar onto the dragon or anything. Just distract it, so the group can get out of a death trap.

If that did happen, then... welp... bonus I guess?
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - 1 slot Open)
Post by: Vosur Aekira on March 03, 2014, 10:49:18 PM
I was guessing (from how it was typed) that the pillar tripped the dragon.

The dragon would move to get a better shot at us, so it's more than feasible, so I worked with it.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - 1 slot Open)
Post by: tangletail on March 04, 2014, 01:18:48 AM
Leo is also on the second story... If the dragon is not looking at him... why does he need to back up? Remember... I didn't have him actually enter the tunnel. Instead he left the maze before the dragon woke up, and hid on the second story, away from he presumed would be the first area the dragon would search.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - 1 slot Open)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on March 04, 2014, 01:28:27 AM
There's no 2nd story. It's all just 1 giant atrium. and only the 1/2 of the large area that's under the gold has cover. It's pure open area from 1/2 way to where we want to go to exit.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - 1 slot Open)
Post by: tangletail on March 04, 2014, 01:31:15 AM

So... Leo is on ground level... outside of the maze... unnoticed then?

Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - 1 slot Open)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on March 04, 2014, 01:11:08 PM
With the size and movements of the dragon, you can easily assume that your arrows no longer exist. plus, there weren't any coins except near the piled hoard. once we get half way out of the atrium, past the maze, there's just open area.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - 1 slot Open)
Post by: tangletail on March 04, 2014, 01:24:20 PM
Right, so Leo will still be near the maze then. Would it be possible if he tried his hand at pisisng off the dragon and getting it to chase after him so the group can get out? Right now, they are sort of in a death trap. And trust me.... I know how to tick one off with a dagger :/ done so many many times. Just gotta think rogue.

Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on March 04, 2014, 01:44:39 PM
Unfortunately, if you remember my posts, the dragon won't chase us too far since she's protecting her eggs. We're completely reliant on the archers to cover our asses right now. But we're going to need you really quick as well.

Post by: Vosur Aekira on March 04, 2014, 10:48:34 PM
Either this can get to be a very "Ewww." moment, or it would do practically nothing depending on the size of the dragon and how it takes an arrow to the uvula. I kinda judge the arrows to be essentially the size of a toothpick compared to it.

My lips are sealed, Vosur.

Even though I'm not the only one who hasn't posted yet, I'll apologize for not posting sooner. Tuesday night I visited my grandfather in the hospital and when I got home I only had time to make & eat supper before going to bed for an early morning the next day. Wednesday, I basically went straight from work to an auction and didn't get home until 8:30, then I basically made & ate supper then went to bed. I have no excuse for yesterday though, besides completely spacing out on it.

Anyways, I'm going to read up on the RP then post.

Depends on the style of an Inn. Inns can usually have a bar or diner underneath all the rooms :/. Normally in small towns.

Not to mention windows....

Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)

Thieves tend to have more charisma in selling items, being tricksy and all. At your level, I'd say you could sell things for 10% more than what they're worth. Another perk of being a thief is also being able to barter well for discounts. at your current level, 5% reductions.

Also, in case no one's noticed, I'll be posting for Shiro for a while. He's having some issues, so I'll be taking up the mantle for a short amount of time. He should be back by the weekend.

Actually... if you ever played Magicka, you kinda wanted to mix spells rather than use just one. Wind and Fire could create a hurricane of Fire.

Arcane and Fire allowed you to shoot a plasma beam.

And Earth and fire created a better version of a fire ball that was almost like an exploding missile.

Explination on how Leo did it...

He used a street performer's trick to distract the Merchant. The way it works is you keep the Merchant's focus on one item. Usually with quick flowing movements, or an interesting object or promise. While he did that, his other hand was free to pull change from him with that arm drop he did.

So... what he basically did was he used the Merchant's own money to pay for the gems... and got change back.

You know... I am actually a bit curious now...

What kind of argument is it to tell a thief that what he's doing is uncivilized <.< and then mention an assassin as acceptable?

The Thief when he becomes notorious is commissioned to steal and frame people.

The Assassin when he becomes notorious is commissioned to steal people's lives.

Now... I could understand it if I look at it appearance wise. Maybe this guy...

is more terrifying than this guy

Buuuut.... I think I'd rather have my stuff stolen than my life. It seems friendlier.

Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on April 13, 2014, 03:21:16 PM
In this world, it really takes the quote, "No honor amongst thieves" quite literally. Assassins are more highly skilled, and possess stealth/power/precision that are beyond what thieves can accomplish. On top of that, assassins no longer require tools like lock-picks, petty trick items, etc. They carry less, but they're deadlier and (as per your complaints) much more useful in all battles, not just some of them.  Also, don't hold onto the cliche look of Assassin's Creed, it's not the look of any other fantasy assassins in existence. It's an original creation by the developers. An assassin more falls in the line of this:
(http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy88/duomillenia/assass_zpsad0e86b8.jpg) (http://s780.photobucket.com/user/duomillenia/media/assass_zpsad0e86b8.jpg.html)
(http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy88/duomillenia/assass2_zps2f84381e.png) (http://s780.photobucket.com/user/duomillenia/media/assass2_zps2f84381e.png.html)
(http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy88/duomillenia/assassin_zpsb55814bd.jpg) (http://s780.photobucket.com/user/duomillenia/media/assassin_zpsb55814bd.jpg.html)

There is actually an Assassin's Guild that, like Elder Scrolls, seeks you out if you're qualified. Because of the level of discipline they possess, assassins follow a code of honor, even if some of them don't like it, carry less equipment, and even gain abilities that are considered borderline magic and alchemy.

Magic users, it's kinda self-explanatory what kind of abilities they gain.

Archers that gain a high enough skill can go to the respective guilds to possibly become Rogues or Hunters.

Berserkers, kinda their own class.

Wildmen/Amazons are also their own class.

Warrior fletchlings eventually can gain the rank of a full Warrior or even Demon Warrior

As stated before, Novice Tamers can become one of many different kinds of tamers, depending on the creatures they choose to make a kinship with.

And swordsmen also have a large array of possibilities: Fencers, Dragoons, Lancers, Knights, Blade Masters, Templars, Phalanxes, Holy Knights, Absent-Armors, and Fighters.

Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on April 13, 2014, 05:17:57 PM
It sounds like you are comparing a master assassin to a novice thief.

Honestly... the Elder Scrolls Assassin thing was you had to kill someone in cold blood. It wasn't a qualification of skills, just temperament. According to the game series, it used to be much larger. And only a handful of people were actually specially trained. Mostly Argonians. The quest line wasn't all that difficult. Again, you were able to kill people without repercussion.

Thieves guild's requirements changed after Oblivion. In Oblivion you had to steal something, or end up in prison. In Skyrim you had to have been able to call out the guard on his sham. The persuasion check was mostly dependent on stolen gold in your inventory. Oblivion's quest line was harder than you could ever imagine if you didn't have any stealth enhancements. With a stealth of 50 *considered advanced* you are sort of able to avoid detection in the final mission. Granted, you need to be hard pressed in a dark corner in a special way.

Really the thieves can be just as skilled as assassins. The two just have different specialties. When it comes to combat it just depends on who gets the jump on who. If the thief directly conflicts. Yeah he will loose. If the thief catches the assassin, he can win the fight if he uses his gadgets if he can't sink the blade square in the back. The thief wouldn't be the first one to drop his guard, or come out of hiding. The assassin wouldn't be worried about having to dodge a blade, or an arrow.

Also <.< my character's background in-depth is based on the rivalry of Thieves and Assassins. His family being a line of thieves, which do get hired for things like rakes, spys, ect. And a family feud with assassins.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on April 14, 2014, 01:03:42 AM
@tangle: I'm just saying that you are sought out, not join on your own accord. I'm not basing this on the game. You have to remember that each of the worlds I create for my RPs are still original. I just use other games as comparisons.

@Vosur: Rogues are those who use and equip crossbows and use them like guns. Hunters are the bow-users.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on April 14, 2014, 02:33:27 AM
So thieves are required to become assassins? Can't I use the Guild Wars 2 Thief concept? Which you are a thief with combat ability. A cross breed really with the best of both worlds. Acrobatic Fighting style, slippery, Fast as crap. Deadly in one on one, and really annoying to fight when it's one thief vs a group. And you use your pick pocketing in combat. I am sorry, but I just don't like assassins and ninjas :/. It's the whole anime crowd that did it in for me. It's more skillful to me if you can get a job done without killing anyone, or ever being noticed.

Also... forewarning Shinzuu

Quote
assassins no longer require tools like lock-picks

I am gonna turn that into a running gag. They don't need them because in anime or the games the doors and windows are wide open or unlocked. And if it's locked the key is lying around somewhere. Or they have crazy vuudu powers, doesn't seem like Leo is getting that ever.

The assassin is so intimidating, he doesn't need a wrench. One death glare to the bolt and it unscrews it's self after rusting.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Vosur Aekira on April 14, 2014, 02:39:37 AM
This is an odd thing to ask, but how does an Archer cross-over to a Rogue since a Crossbow Apprentice would be their initial step?
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on April 14, 2014, 01:35:11 PM
@tangle: not all thieves have to become assassins. it's only those who wish to become the best get beyond a thief. but you're still just a petty thief, so it's pretty far down the road. as i said in the previous post, assassins acquire abilities that are pretty much considered magical or alchemic.

@vosur: your choice was crossbow apprentice or archer apprentice. i just lumped them into one category. crossbow and archers must first be acknowledged by their respective guilds to be fully fledged bow users (if they choose to join, that is, to acquire quests and/or training). however, there are plenty that gain that acknowledgement through just showing off their skills in quests or even festivals/competitions. name notoriety gains fame and rank, too, assuming that the mediums are through notable channels, and not old ladies.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Vosur Aekira on April 14, 2014, 02:17:19 PM
You have me scratching at my own chin in thought on this... I kinda imagine a Rogue with daggers as a side-weapon (since they seem more the thief-like class if given the description of their name?), which would initially make me think Karina might fit well with that, but since her bladed-bow would have to be made into a crossbow, she'd have to retrain in a different weapon to even fit in with that class altogether.

Additionally, how would a would-be Hunter be recruited? Same way a Rogue is trained?
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on April 14, 2014, 03:56:04 PM
To go from a full-fledged archer or crossbow archer, you must register through the guild (fee waived for members) and pass a series of tests. name notoriety only graduates you from a novice in this category.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on April 14, 2014, 06:51:08 PM
Ok. I'll go with the Guild Thief concept then. Also the guild thief is sort of like the assassin. He still relies on gadgets, but he's able to accomplish a metric heap more than just kill. In this RP they could probably also have the appearance of using magic or alchemy. But not when it comes to doors. Usually just stealth or quick movements.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on April 14, 2014, 09:20:47 PM
not enough thieves with honor or morals to form a guild. as for their abilities, they are strictly technical and mechanical. their methods are more realistic than those of assassins.
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: tangletail on April 15, 2014, 12:23:50 AM
It doesn't quite seem too fair. It sounds like that the thief is not allowed to advance in his abilities. And is doomed to be in the same gutter, making the same mistakes.

Besides, a professional thief will have some honor if he is working under commissioned pays (Normally higher returns, then running around and stealing random junk). Fences give jobs, know the value of certain items, have a larger resource to information, clients. Thieves go out to do the job, and return with the item to make money. After all, you can't move something that is unique to one area and expect to sell it in just any shop.

But blah. I will blend.  Assassin Thief brew. The character has no desire in being a murderer, but the ability to fight is a must in a party <.<.

Also... what honor does an assassin have as well? He too is influenced by pay unless he is a serial killer
Title: Re: Life Stone (OOC - Closed)
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on April 15, 2014, 02:10:31 AM
Thieves advance themselves with better tools and items to make up for what they lack from assassins. There aren't always assassins that stay in the guild. Those who leave are usually subject to execution, but some escape, and even less are allowed to leave (retirees, or top mention assassins). Like I said before, assassins follow a code, whether they like it or not, in order to join the guild and learn better abilities and train.

Assassins rarely have to take jobs since most of their quests are high profile, which means a lot of money, and a LOT of time to hone their skills.

Actual fully-fledged or even master thieves are great in battle in the technical sense, but the trust level is so low, that 1/2 usually end up with a slit throat after a big quest.

This is the end of the explanations for this. This world is made by me. It's not based on any other.

Is Leo allowed to have his own set of codes and honor after coming from a family line of thieves and rakes. Or is he required to be "dishonorable"

I had to learn a 3D Graphics API, and be able to make something usable in three weeks time. That's also excluding learning a metric heap of other libraries with poor documentation that I needed to use to get the program to operate fully.

And the oh so helpful team mate I had that I needed an algorithm from... to get the simulation to work.

End result, it's done.... but buggy as crap. A lot of code was even commented out to save time. I mean... you look at it crossways... and it just don't like it. You right click on it, and it crashes.

I kinda see that, but I'll see what Vee posts and maybe I might come up with something.

A bit of a strange dual idea, but I want to think that these guys either have really sensitive hearing or are really vain to not liking their helms hit.

Hey guys. I'm sorry it's taking so long. Having to release Suzumi has sent me back a LOT in the story. Vee and I are going up for camping for the 4th of July this weekend, starting this afternoon. Hopefully, I'll have things ready by Monday.

Alright. If I delay any between now and September 29th, it's due to preparations of my own.

sorry, buys, but i'm completely too thrown off with the story, and honestly speaking, Vosur won't be with us for the whole thing so i'm calling this RP dead.

That is depending on how things go if I'll be around for the whole thing... but yeah, this one has just died out. Guess a lot of people are having summer-working schedules?

just the participants here. if you see the other RPs, they're actually doing just fine with daily postings. All the active players are just not interested in my RPs, mostly because the people I kicked before spread pretty bad shit about me. I've had someone tell me what they've heard. It's depressing since RPs are pretty much the only reason I stay on this forum anymore.

Personally, I've not had any problems with the RP's. I think I'd been the most involved in yours than in any of the others that I'd seen.

well, at this point, I'm going to be back on the drawing board and see if I can't scrape up a new RP or pull one from the archives.
