My gosh...I was reading some movie industry news today and darn near choked when I saw this!

Walt Disney Animation Studios' director Byron Howard (Tangled) and writer Jared Bush shared plans for the upcoming comedy adventure Zootopia (working title). In the animal city of Zootopia, a fast-talking fox who's trying to make it big goes on the run when he's framed for a crime he didn't commit. Zootopia's top cop, a self-righteous rabbit, is hot on his tail, but when both become targets of a conspiracy, they're forced to team up and discover even natural enemies can become best friends.
My god...look at that art style! I'm so freaking excited! The story looks very compelling...like something right out of the furry community itself! It's times like this I'm proud to be a fox. ;-)

Why so cynical? It looks really neat, especially the art style. Sure, most animal characters in Disney films end up being anthro, but it's the style of anthro that has me so excited here. It looks like it could have been drawn by one of our own.
Secondly, the concept itself has me excited. I'm reminded of Blacksad in a way...its the whole idea of an anthro world. Harkens back to Robin Hood days of Disney.

This just seems like same ol' song and dance. We had Shark Tale, we had Kung Fu Panda, we had Robin Hood as terrible of a movie as it was.
Why is this garnering so much excitement? There's literally nothing special about it.
The one that actually caught my eye is Finding Dory. NOW I'm interested.

I will give it a chance, I think it looks pretty sweet but I'll have to watch it first and find out lol but I'm saving my judgement until I actually watch it.

Given our history, I think we should just agree to disagree. I'm eager to see what they make of it. You don't have to be excited nor have to go see it. But I'll be eager to see what comes of it. :) If others want to be excited then let them be excited. The worst that could happen is that it doesn't live up to expectations...and this early on neither you or I can say for certain that it will or won't. But I'll be excited for the possibility that it will.
That said, I'm also looking forward to Finding Dory.

I judge movies more fiercely than others mainly because if I'm going to spend an outrageous amount of money this had better be a damn good movie.
So far, they choose the most generic species and a generic story. Art style just simply isn't enough to redeem a movie. But so far, furries treat this like it's the first and only movie with an all anthro cast without any humans which is blatantly untrue. It looks as if they're going to put some effort into crafting the world as if humans never existed, rather than simply putting anthros into a human world...minus humans.
That makes me wonder if we'll see such subtle but unique things as a different style of seating for cars, different types of shoes...heck maybe even anthro adapted devices like touchscreens. Things that weren't necessarily explored in movies with anthros in a human world.
There is a lot of potential here. I'm also glad to see it was a subject of discussion on FurCast!

I think that's what happened is they came to "one of our own" and asked for a story. They were given ideas and took this one and are now going for it.
(Looks cool, can't wait to see it. Please pm me when it comes out.). :)
What if they say. "A story from the furry fandom and Disney present....zootopia!"

I would watch it if I was 40. Disney was my childhood. Made me see that being bad, never helped anyone, showed me how to care for people, and told me to do what I love and love what I do. ^_^

Wow that art style is different. I see what you mean by being drawn by one of our own. It's as if someone in the fan dom drew it instead of Disney using all there special tech to make an animated movie so perfectly conducted you sometimes whether if it isn't reality. What did I just say...
Anyways it looks interesting and I hope they can make something great out of it! I'm not a huge fan of the older movies with claymation and such... which this is reminding me of right now... so I hope they blow me away. I'll keep my eyes on this thread you keep me updated!

This is great they are doing a more traditional art style, it will teach the younger generations what Disney was before Pixar took over.

I have mixed feelings about this. Sometimes I think pixar goes too far, and I enjoy the short clips before movies and what not, but the old style does not hold my attention and I get sick of it after a while.
