Title: Trying new foods!
Post by: Nobi on June 26, 2013, 03:44:12 PM
For the past couple of years, I've been really trying to expand my horizons when it comes to food! There are still things that I'll stay away from—pasta and cheese being the main ones—but I'm really enjoying trying new flavors and combinations, going to new restaurants, and just taking more culinary risks. :) So for any furs who enjoy doing the same, thing, please talk about some new foods you've tried and ended up loving!

For example, I recently tried Ban Mi for the first time yesterday. For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, it's a Vietnamese sandwich on nice toasty bread that seems to commonly include carrots, cilantro, and cucumbers aside some type of meat. I had grilled lemongrass pork on mine, and lemme tell you, it was the absolute bomb-diggity! :D Best sandwich of my life so far!

I tend to experiment with sammiches depending on what's in the fridge on the day. In our house of hungry girls, food shifts, so I like being frugal.  But tonight when I had the munchies come on, after a Pot Noodle I found some sourdough bread, toasted and filled it with roast chicken leg meat (lerg meat is the tastiest) and some homemade sage stuffing from the chicken's bum. And it was delicious! I added slices of homegrown tomatoes to the sammich, dropped some on my lap because I'd over-filled it, haha, but it was utterly divine. And mum thought so, too.  :D

Cool! It can definitely be fun (and informative) to just experiment with stuff lying around the kitchen. :)

—pasta and cheese being the main ones—

Eat pastas and cheeses XD

Though I've somewhat been managing to do the same and I think the best way to do it is to eat out at a random restaurant, NOT FASTFOOD, and order a few things blindly.

Or if you're cooking food and you want to experiment, I generally randomly spice any meat I cook and figure out what I like most (Chicken and cinnamon was a recent one). But you can generally say that you like one thing with another, and that other thing goes well with something else, so all three must be good together.
