Title: KoalaJen's: The Art of Her Fursona(s)
Post by: KoalaJen on May 03, 2013, 06:58:37 PM
Well since I've been putting some of my art up recently, it was only natural to come here to share a little bit of my fursona.

The following are links to a few drawings I have over on FA. I'd post the images directly into the post, however, for some reason they keep wanting to break on me. So links it is for the first three. However since I started hosting newer pictures elsewhere, my more recent art posts have the art posted right in the post itself within the spoilers. Hope you enjoy them!

It sure is a very unique art style.

Thanks, it's kind of you say that. I've never really saw it as being anywhere unique, then again each artist does do their own little thing with their work. :P Guess it shows. :D

As you can tell by my profile picture I have a weird art style to. It tends to change some times.

Happy Star Wars Day everyone! :D

The imperials are here to crash the party and Jen decided to play dress up today as a green (so totally not Master Chief) Stormtrooper. :P

Hehe, I like your style. It reminds me a bit of the cartoons I used to watch growing up with the sharp angles, vivid colors, yet an attention to detail. :)

Styles do tend to change, part of the evolution of the process I think. We're always experimenting with new stuff, even when we're not thinking about it. New lines, new colors, different brushes and mediums. Art changes from time to time. Although I'll admit, I have a hard time with keeping any consistency among my drawings, even if they're of the same thing. Why I've never attempted a comic yet. :3

Well you would do better at a comic then me. When I draw characters I can never draw them again. It's like I'm drawing people from another universe. They never end up the same.

Ya I like the cartoony style because I can't do and don't fully like the realistic style. Your way of drawing kinda reminds me of the old sonic cartoons. I have other pictures but I do t if I can post them.

A newer version of Jen. This time going for a more natural tone with her. :)

Yeah, I'm kind of the same way. :P But thanks though. I'm sure we could both do comics if we tried enough though. :D

Never really thought of my style being similar to the Sonic cartoons, but I can sort of see it now. :P

Don't think you can post in other people's topics, but there's different sections for artists to post their own stuff. One is for personal fursonas and the other is just general furry work. If you want to post them, you should start your own topic thread. If you do, I'll definitely hop on over and take a look at your work Nixon/Monto. :) I'd love to see them.

Nix, call me nix.
I mean I don't think my phone physically allows me to post my pictures any where.
There's an idea! We both do a comic! We draw the pictures and see them in email to each other. Well it's a good idea but I know we will not be able to.

Decided to try something different today with my fursona. The results are surprising.

Experimenting a little bit this morning with using a slightly different style than I normally use when drawing my fursona Jen. This version I feel at least is a bit more softer and a much larger step towards the realistic side than my last drawing of her. As was expressed in my FA description for this image, I had used references of actual koalas to help me with certain features, such as the eyes and muzzle.

Overall it turned out great and she's starting to look more like a transgenic hybrid now than just a cartoon mascot and that's a transition that will likely continue into the future with this character.

OH! Hehe, sorry about that assumption, guess I jumped the gun a little there. While that sounds like a neat idea, I might have to pass that down. Yeah those phones can be pretty annoying like that. :P

Been working for the last two evenings on a project of mine that uses my fursona in a way I never thought I'd end up using. Now I will warn you, frame-by-frame animation is something that I know about, but have only ever tried it with transformers, never my own hand drawn art. But a little hard work and a tired wrist has gotten me this far and while it's something to be proud of I'll let the videos do the talking. Enjoy! :D

Know it isn't anything recent, but just wanted to share the image I have as my avatar. It's the next step up from the last animation tests and yes, this one can be animated as well. In this version Jen is sporting a new look, wearing goggles and a black and pink hoodie, her shirt has also changed color. I've also gone and removed the background entirely so I can add in my own backgrounds later seamlessly. :D

I may actually change it up a bit later at some point, such as dislocating her shoulders so they have movement and add a few more layers for other animations, such as a potential breathing animation and so forth. It's an ongoing project. :P

"Next" Jen is in the spoilers below. Enjoy.

Thank you Nixon/Monto. :) Yeah, I'm definitely keeping this one around for a while now. Working on a new project on top of work so I don't have too much time on my hands to fool around with making yet another Jen variant. :P

Well went and made another character that's turned into a main character of sorts. She started as a joke, became an experiment and turned into a full blown character within a few weeks.

Her name's Shawn and already she's becoming more and more fleshed out as I progress with her. She's a character that I can put into mundane instances, make them hilarious and all that fun stuff. That and she's become another part of me. Jen is my artistic side, Shawn, is my other side. The side where I like to play games, have fun, be stupid and all around not normal.

So without much to do, here's Shawn. (in the spoiler below)

I know, for some reason I decided to make a cat. Jen might be a more unique fursona, maybe too unique. But there are some moments I do think, "yeah, I'm pretty cat like". Currently I'm working on several short comic strips with her and her family that I'll put up once they're out of the rough draft stage and more finished. But I hope you enjoy this picture so far. ^_^ Worked hard on it.

It's a second main character of mine now. Another fursona that I've accidentally given life to recently and fell in love with too much to let go. Remember kids, always draw with adequate protection.

She's supposed to be a young cat, albeit that might be weird considering she isn't drawn as the usual cat fursona would be with her bushy foxy tail and its banded stripes. Then again, what's usual? Hehe. Not quite sure what her breed would be though, likely just a full on mix because beyond that I can't really tell beyond cat. I just like the look and it's fun to draw. :3

The hair looks like giant ears. If made the hair go to a point then they would look like braids.

Thanks for letting me know Nix. I've actually been adjusting her design for a more comics style, so I can draw her faster and in those I'm starting to end the hair in more of a point and defining it better.  ^_^
