Title: A friendly introduction from a new koala.
Post by: KoalaJen on April 30, 2013, 08:46:44 PM
I'm pretty new, not just to this forum, but the fandom as a whole and boy am I diving right in! I'm expecting a cold splash, but you never know, perhaps the pool is heated.

My curiosity in the fandom started in my early teens when I began drawing anthro characters, even winning a few first and second place medals at my local county fair with them. But none of them were "my" character, I didn't even know that the fandom existed. However I dropped out of it for a few years before due to depression and slowly working back into it as time went on. My interest didn't ignite the way it is now until recently after I had started transitioning in my life, becoming more stable and aware of myself as a whole person. During that time I started creating a new character, my first and current fursona, Jen. She's a young koala that is bright, friendly, imaginative, adventurous and ambitious. Qualities that I'll likely need to continue my expedition into my curiosity.

Now why did I choose a koala? Well, mostly because I wanted something cute, fuzzy, easy to draw and different than your usual suspects (dog, cat, wolf, ect.). I'm sure koalas have their own popularity, but at least their more mainstream than say, a trilobite. Yeah, I have a thing for those little critters. Can't help it, they're my favorite animal.

I'm still an artist to this day, it's a personal trait, a talent that will never cease as long as I'm alive. With that I have a window into my imagination that I can share with others and it only grows better over time. Now, I'm not the only artist in my family, my boyfriend is an artist too, a multi-talented one at that. He's even agreed to work with me on designing a suit. Don't have any goals for that, just something to make and have.

I know that's a long introduction, but I just wanted to get those things out of the way. Really show that I'm a real person who wants to find a place for herself. However I realize that I am a stranger, but I hope that eventually, I will find my place within your community. If not, then at least I know I tried and there's no harm in that. ~Jen

Especially here, everyone is super nice and accepting and nobody is treated like a stranger. We're all friends here, hehe. Welcome to the forums and fandom, Jen :)
I'm sure you'll fit in here, don't worry ^^

Oh, which reminds me, you can always PM me too if you just want to talk or have a question.

I like koala's, if it weren't for my other characters (I think I have enough fursonas now) I probably would add a koala too, but no x) I don't have the patience to sit around only eating one kind of plant the whole day :3

That's cool and pretty sweet of you to make your mother a fursona. :D Kind of lucky too. My mother wouldn't be too open to that concept. :P

she was interessted in my fursona and so I`ve done one for her.
At first she thought anthro is a weird kind of art, but she likes it, too.

It's good that your mother ended up liking it. :) I'm sure plenty think that it's weird and stuff until they actually get into it a bit more.

Used to have the same reaction to it years ago, until I actually started getting more curious about it in recent times during a period of transition in my own life. There's something about feeling comfortable with one's self and not caring what others think about you that make you try different, more interesting things out.

Heck, already I'm having fun and I've mostly just been doing personal art. :P There's something about drawing and creating these characters that feels right to me though. I'm glad to be finally getting into it more now.
