Title: Mountain Tournament
Post by: Dove_CG on July 18, 2007, 10:48:18 PM
  :sleepytime:  :peek:

All right! Let's see how this goes. (I'm only using the color-coding to emphasize certain things in the set-up. You don't have to color-code your own posts.)

This is set in a large mountain range where legends abound. There is a city, at the highest altitude that a city can reasonably reach, that is the closest reasonable means to get to an ancient arena that is tucked into the mountains themselves. The path there isn't too long but the weather can change suddenly, even blizzards. How long the changes last can vary. There is also a high potential for altitude sickness but deal with that how you want. You can presume that you arrived at the mountain range early, in order to acclimate, or that you live here. There is a hospital in the city and there is a small airport. (I'm not certain how legitimate that is in reality but we'll just say that's the case anyway.)

The tournament has been promoted for several weeks, far and wide, so preparations have been made and various degrees of excitement can be found. The winner of the tournament gets a special, undisclosed gift, but prior winners have gotten some amazing things and the gift can alter, depending on what the winner wanted it to be (though this is no guarantee it will be exactly what they were after.) This particular mountain range has humans and furries living in general co-existance but, if you come from somewhere else in the world, that doesn't have to be the case for where your character hails from. Feel free to have human characters too (as NPCs or your main character.)

The Rules

You may use any fighting methods you like, including magic (but be reasonable and put some limitation on what you can do. I leave that up to your discretion.) The goal is not to kill your opponent but exhaust them. You want to outlast them and make them concede. If neither can continue fighting, then it is a draw. Those two fighters will be assigned to fight different opponents. If the last match is a draw, then there must be a rematch later. Once we have enough people, I'll make a sort of progress list of who is going to fight who and where they will progress from there. Characters who join later on can be added in too. There will just be fewer contestants by that point, is all. Here's an example:

Phyllis -----\___Winner fights________\
Winslow---/                                        \_______Winner fights_____
                                                         /                                         \
Tandem ---\____Winner fights______ /                                            \
Flute ------/                                                                                     \________Winner of Tournament
                                                                                                      /
Baxter------\___Winner fights________\                                           /
Orion-------/                                        \_______Winner fights_____/
                                                         /
Silky--------\____Winner fights______ /
Mink--------/

During a fight, observe the following. Not doing so earns disqualification. There will be at least two NPC referees and other players can join to just be referees, if they'd like, or create other NPC referees. The NPC referees can be used by all other players, to ICly point out various things, but don't abuse this for a free win. If there is a disagreement between two players, regarding a match, we will handle it OOC. Incidentally, anyone who would like to join this thread can also be a newscaster, a reporter, a medic, a friend who is there for support, a fan of a particular fighter, or anything else they would like to be. Just realize that the matches are the focus of the RP, so these might be better as secondary characters.

The list of known NPC referees (currently):
Vivian - a large, brawny female wolf
Martin - a tall, bulky male human
Amelia - a trim female human
Douglas - an average looking male moose

There will be two referees at any match. There can, of course, be unnamed referees. But I thought this might make it a bit easier.

Things that the referees will be watching for:

1.) No aiming for the head. Serious injury to the face is included in that ruling (eyes being gouged out, for instance.)
2.) No aiming for anyone's groin or breasts. It's a weakness but it's also a cheap shot.
3.) No aiming for the vital spots with the intent of doing serious, lasting injury to them. Precise blows that knock-out an opponent are okay, if you don't go overboard with it (no rupturing and such.) The goal is not to kill or maim but to wear down.

It is also possible for an attack that was intended for another part of the body to hit one of the areas that is off-limits. But the referee will most likely rule this as a mistake and give both opponents five or so minutes of recovery. If that happens three or more times, the match will be called a draw (even if it wasn't intentional.)

Basically, blood can be spilled, particularly if you have a sharp weapon, and pain is expected. The opponent simply needs to be alive and not significantly altered or needing life-support at the end of it.

Now, here is THE most important thing of all. The person who does the attack does NOT decide if it lands! For this reason, make your attacks open-ended. Here is an example:

Phyllis leaps at Winslow and lifts her arm. With great force, she rakes her claws downward, aiming for his back.

Aiming, trying, attempting, intending to... these are words you want to use. It makes everything flow better. In this case, you can possibly even get away with "raked her claws across his back and leaped aside, before seeing if she had actually done any damage to the sprightly kangaroo." Or something similar. The point is that the other player decides how the attack affected them; whether they got out of the way, suffered only some of the damage, or took the entire hit.

Here is what I don't want to see.

Phyllis slashed Winslow with her claws, hard enough to make him cry! She smiled at the red trails of blood all over his back.

Let's face it. Even if you wrote that, Winslow still might ignore you because he wanted to do it differently. The point is, Winslow decides how he reacts, how his body looks after the attack, and how it has affected him. And when Winslow kicks at Phyllis, she can decide if the kick landed exactly where he intended or if she moved just fast enough to be kicked in the leg, instead of the side (or to not get hit at all.)

Mind you, someone has to get hit at some point. So don't dodge everything thrown at you. Just try to be reasonable and have fun.

Also, please use correct grammar and punctuation. In a fighting RP, it is perhaps even MORE important to know what is going on.

For the people who have lost a match, there is a break-room (so to speak) where they can refresh and relax. They can also watch the following matches or decide to explore the area. The building is expansive and there are hidden secrets, if you want to uncover some. (However, you have to make up the secrets yourself. Nothing involving match-rigging please.) If you want to continue with a side-story, it might be best to create another thread and link it back to this one (or something like that.)

Here is a somewhat decent drawing of my characters. :3  http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/42178016/

Jibe is a fluffy white cat, possibly part Angora or Persian, with one blue eye and one golden eye, wearing a brown trench-coat and a dark brown bowler derby. He is ill-natured and aggressive on principal but doesn't usually provoke outright fights. He tends to have a very skeptical outlook. For some bizarre reason, he is close friends with Jester.

Jester is a really colorful Japanese Bobtail. He's a ginger tabby with a large white patch of fur covering most of his round face. He also has white patches on his hands, his feet, and the tip of his tail. He has enormous, round, black eyes. His clothing involves bold (not pastel) variations of teal, yellow, white, and bright orange-red. He is typically jolly but he's not as goofy as he seems.

IC:

A human bartender stood behind his bar, cleaning one of the many glasses. He glanced over at his only patron. It was still quite early, which explained the lack of customers, but the quietness of that one customer was starting to weight heavily on him.

"So, you think you're gonna win the arena, kid?" the bartender asked.

Of course, she wasn't a kid. He had checked her ID before letting the youthful looking wolf buy a drink. But the word slipped out of his mouth before he had realized it. It was the pig-tails, he supposed.

The wolf paused in nursing her glass of vodka and arched an eyebrow at the bartender's comment.

"What?" the wolf asked.

"You know. The big tournament," the bartender replied.

"What makes you think I'm going to some tournament?" the wolf asked, "I'm just here for a drink!"

The bartender stared at the large two-handed sword slung across the wolf's back. It was nearly twice as big as either of them.

"Oh, that! Heh heh... that's just a model."

The wolf pulled it off her back and held it out, handle first, towards the bartender. The man grasped it warily and found it light as cardboard! Then he studied it a bit closer and realized it was cardboard. Maybe he shouldn't have such low lighting in his bar.

---

The massive, beige walls of stone surrounding the arena had lasted centuries, with very few chinks in its structure. The mountain cave that surrounded it further helped elude the light of day.

For this reason, the old man seated at his seemingly incongruous desk was grateful for the thousands upon thousands of lit torches that lined the rooms and halls of the 'temple' (for lack of a better term or archaeological clues to what it had really been built for.) Still, he felt grouchy. They were always such a pain to keep going. He turned in his chair and his shoe came in contact with something small and furry near his chair.

Jester blinked and looked over his shoulder. He had been playing solitaire for ages. That he had been cheating at it too had not been lost on the old man, who had little else to watch just then.

"Yeees?" Jester asked.

He was grinning, as usual, but he was showing as many teeth as possible because he was annoyed. Even the trill in his high-pitched voice made this abundantly clear.

"Jibe isn't back yet. Go get him. And light any of the torches that have burned out on the way," the old man answered.

Jester sulked.

"Always with the torches! The torches..."

"You have a fire spell," the old man answered, "So why waste the fuel when we have you?"

"Hey, mine uses fuel too," Jester replied, "Internal fuel, thank you, and I'm already hungry enough as it is."

He stood up as the old man shrugged. He knew the old man didn't care. The old man, Olav, was about as generally unpleasant as Jibe. This made sense, given that he had raised Jibe for a handful of years.

The old man explained, "You're pudgy enough, I think you'll survive before you find him. So light 'em fast and we'll eat when you return."

Jester scooped the cards up into a pile and dumped them into the old man's lap. The old man glowered at this but began sorting them into a proper stack, as he intended to use them while Jester was gone. It was better than pouring over the few entry forms, which sat on his desk, that they had acquired thus far. A good thing the weather was mild at the moment too. Jester was the only truly reliable source of heat in the entire cave-system building.

"Fine! Just remember, I like my tuna extremely well done," Jester said.

Then he skipped away, the little bells that served as the buttons on his sleeves jingling merrily. He conjured a small chunk of brick into his paws as he went, fingering it thoughtfully and wondering if he should try making some echoes in the emptier chambers.

OOC: Quick note; while small, multiple attacks is a good strategy, I wouldn't recommend using them unless you can control where they go. The flyers you've found would have told you what parts of the body are off-limits during the match and that they can potentially get you kicked out of the tournament if you hit any of them. (With several attacks at once, it would even be possible to hit all three and immediately be disqualified, if you're extremely unlucky and using very sharp attacks.) If you can control the direction of each needle, while not as effective as a wild spray potentially, then you don't have to worry about that as much.

IC:

The bartender handed the cardboard sword back to its owner. He still had no idea why she was carrying a fake weapon around with her. Thinking it over, he had decided that the answer to that would just cause more questions and remained silent.

The wolf holstered the sword over her back again and gave the bartender a sly smile.

"I'll tell you a secret," she said.

"Oh?"

"I mean, sort of a secret. You asked if I was going to be in the tournament? Well, I'm not going to be fighting in it...." she said.

The bartender continued polishing his glass and looked up as the door opened, letting in another wolf. He paused long enough to wave and then put the clean glass back on the shelf.

The wolf turned her head, to see who the bartender had waved at, and then leaned in across the counter. The bartender came closer, amused at her conspiratorial antics, but also wondering what he had gotten himself into. The wolf grinned and spoke quietly.

"But I am one of the referees," she said.

Then she downed the last of her vodka. The bartender was glad that had been her first and only drink so far. He might have thought she was drunk but she was a pretty big wolf, so the alcohol shouldn't have effected her too much yet. He thought she'd make a pretty good bouncer for his bar, if she wasn't always this silly.

Post by: Nyxlie on July 19, 2007, 10:22:14 PM
Name: Nyxlie
Species: Lop eared rabbit
Age: 22

Appearance: coloration is chocolate brown, hair is a glossy white and usually pinned up between her ears. Ears are held back behind her head by a soft hair band. Always wears white running shoes, a black, tight mini tank and gym pants which are also black (they're easy to run in). Tribal tattoos can be seen on her hips, upper left arm and on either side of her tail. Eyes are a midnight grey. Always wears a collar, a necklace and a lip ring. Usually has dark chocolate colored lipstick on.

Abilities: Nyxlie is pretty much self taught with her fighting skills. Grew up on the streets of a rather large city and more than once had to run or defend herself from either humans or a not so friendly carnivore furry. Her abilities come primarily from her speed and agility. Usually uses guns as a primary weapon but considering the tournament, has opted for twin  21 inch telescopic steel batons. (http://www.tbotech.com/telescopicbaton.htm)

IC:

Nyxlie sighed as she hiked up the path to the ancient arena. I should have stopped at that bar before starting on this ridiculous path, she though to herself, But no, had to be one of the first there and now I've seen rain, snow and extreme rise in heat in the last 30 minutes. Nyxlie shook her head and grabbed the straps of the backpack on her shoulders, forcing herself to keep going.

I thought..."Why am I entering a bar..?" I exited before anyone could say hello....
"Might as well get up the mountain..." I muttered.....I sighed a sec....I checked if I had my bow, my katana, and my daggers...."Got my arrows too, I'm all set..." I said as I took a deep breath.....I Wind Dashed up the mountain, I felt the temperature rise as I passed another fur....

Nyxlie shook her head again as she felt another fur run past her.

That idiot. He'll feel the altitude sickness more severely, going so fast before he lets his body adjust. I'd be there by now if that wasn't the case.

Sighing for probably the hundredth time, Nyxlie stopped and raised an arm, "Hey! Stop! You don't want to do that!"

"I know what'll happen, I didn't even have to read your mind to know!" I shouted to her whilst passing her....
"I know I'll feel the sickness more severely" I said as I thought "That's why I'm a master in healing"  :th_Pyong-1:
I kept dashing up the mountain, healing the sickness, as I reached the arena and went inside.....

I could read her thoughts from my position...... I rolled my eyes....
"Um.. I would like to enter the tournament..." I said to whoever was standing there....
"O..k...follow me and sign your name on this board...." The referee that was stading there said...
I signed the board...--------------------------
 Ãƒâ€šÃ‚                           |Shinzui Suterusu------|
 Ãƒâ€šÃ‚                           |-------------------------|
I didnt look at the rest of the board...I set it down on the desk and went to relax in the Waiting Room.....
My head started to hurt a bit...I casted another spell to get rid of the pain.....

Nyxlie took a deep breath and grinned as she made it to the top of the path.

Well isn't this a pleasant place.

She noticed a man who she assumed was an official and walked over, "Excuse me, I'm here to sign for the tournament."

He looked up and nodded, pointing towards an archway, "Just go through there and sign the board.

Once inside, Nyxlie looked to the board, signing her name and noticing the name right above hers.

Must be the wolf that passed me earlier.

I took out my deck of TwiLight cards...
I laid out 3 face down on the table in front of me.....I put 2 fingers on the one on the left...
"TwiLight..."I said as I flipped the card over...."White..." I muttered...The card was white....
I held up a non-activated card and looked it over...on 1 side...white and black, on the other red....
"They stay red till I activate them....then they turn black or white..." I explained to myself....
"White means extreme luck...black means death...." I went on....

Nyxlie walked into the waiting area, finding Shinzui talking to himself with some strange looking cards in his hands.

"Hello, I see you're in good health," she hailed, "I'm Nyxlie."

Not waiting for an answer, she walked over to another chair and sat, looking the wolf over.

Nyxlie smiled, "Nice to meet you, Shinzui."

Nyxlie pulled out an apple from her backpack and took a bite. After swallowing she said, "it would seem there aren't many here yet. I wonder how big this thing will be."

Shrugging at her own question, Nyxlie once again eating her apple, still keeping one eye on Shinzui.

I wonder what kind of fighting technique he has.

Nyxlie watched as Shinzui walked out of the room followed closely by the sound of a small explosion.

Nyxlie finished her apple and got up herself, looking around her.

Let him train. I'm going to take a nap first.

OOC: Wow. I spend the night playing D&D and everyone has already posted about ten times. Btw, it would be nice if you responded to my OOC comment, Shinzui, so that I at least know you read it and acknowledged it in some way.

IC:

"You DO know that destroying the stonework could cause a cave-in, right?"

A raspy, masculine voice comes from somewhere behind Shinzui. The owner of it is a white cat, should he look to see.

Back in the waiting room, a small, colorful cat appears, jingling slightly and carrying a plate with some very crisp, burnt fishies on it. He smiles at the rabbit and curls up in a free seat.

OOC: Shinzui, you're still not responding to my OOC comments. I consider that impolite at the least and offensive at the worst (because it would suggest that you just don't care what I'm saying and think that I'm a joke.) Your in character personality can, of course, be whatever you want (within logical reason) but your out of character actions reflect on you as a real person.

IC:

Jibe followed him, tail swishing side to side.

"It's not that simple, wolf. The mountain is right behind the wall there and it's all limestone. Did you check it for damage too? And what you do  could affect the rooms around you, if you hit hard enough to knock the roof off. So unless you really want to destroy the arena in record time, I wouldn't try that again," Jibe says.

Nyxlie looks over to the smiling cat and grins back, "Well hello there little one. And what might you be doing here?"

She raised an eyebrow, tilting her head at the small cat and chuckled, "Surely you're not part of this tournament."

At that moment Nyxlie looked up when she heard Shinzui coming back to the waiting room.

Didn't train long, she thought to herself.

OOC: I didn't have a question before, per say, and I am sorry if I sound irate.

My initial out of character comment was simply a suggestion, for your own sake, and I simply wanted to know that you had read it. Basically, I was noting that the Thousand Needles attack could provoke disqualification, if your character has no control over where each wind needle goes, since such a large amount would most likely hit the entire body indiscriminately.

But here is an actual question... Does your character have anything they can't do or aren't good at? From here, it looks like you're not following the setting, as stipulated in the initial orange text, if only because your character seems to have no limits.

IC:

Jibe watched the wolf continue onward and shook his head. The criminal negligence this wolf showed weighted heavily on him, more heavily than he normally would have anticipated. Such an act of knowing possible life-endangering outcomes and then ignoring the potential anyway was downright disgusting, even to someone who usually wasn't so worked up about safety. He had no idea that Shinzui could read minds but he wouldn't have cared if he did. With his hands in his coat pockets, he wandered away to see his father.

Jester, in the meantime, continued smiling at Nyxlie. He set his plate in his lap and thumped his chest with one hand.

"I might be... not as tall as some but don't underestimate me!" he said, "Which would be very important to keep in mind if we're in a match together."

Of course, his high-pitched voice (a little lower than a child's but still high enough to be considered uninspiring) isn't the best for impressing anyone else with such a statement. Not knowing or not concerned with this fact, he then jabbed a fork into one of the very charred chunks of tuna and stuffed it into his mouth. He didn't grimace at all, upon tasting it, and quickly prepared another bite with his utensil. Then, remembering half of his manners, he tried speaking around his mouthful.

"Oh! But forgive me... I'm Jester. And who might you be?"

Whenever Shinzui arrived in the room, Jester looked over and nodded a greeting, but most of his attention was on Nyxlie because she had spoken to him first.

Nyxlie looked back at Jester. "Ah, Nice to meet you, Jester. I'm Nyxlie," smiling, "And I can't wait to see your... fighting techniques if you're indeed entering the tournament."

Yawning, Nyxlie leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees, "I really need to get some sleep. That trek was pretty tiring. But before I do, I wanted to know when exactly this starts."

She looked out a window with a curious look on her face, "We've only really been given an idea of the time this starts. Is there something special we don't know about?"

Plus it looks like I came a bit earlier than what I intended, she thought, wondering where others were at the same time.

OOC: Thanks. Normally I wouldn't ask for anyone's weaknesses because I want there to be surprises in battle. I was growing concerned and I'm glad you had some to list. Let me go over them though.

Anything earth elemental, silver weapons: Perfectly reasonable
Light magic: Sounds okay except that I'm not certain what was meant. Just anything involving the creation and usage of magical illumination?
3 arrows: I don't understand how exactly the arrows would differ from a dagger, for instance. If there is a distinction then I am simply ignorant, so please enlighten me.
At twilight i become a demon making me a killing machine: ... Umm. If this actually has some impact on the tournament, your character would end up disqualified, because homicidal tendencies=getting kicked out. Even if the reason is that your character turns into a demon, that is still the case. And if he transforms during any match, a killing machine is going to intentionally go for the areas that are against the rules to hit (especially in a lethal manner, which is also against the rules) so he would get disqualified then too. You'll have to come up with something different for that last weakness, just for this RP.

Btw, you already went into the waiting room and sat down before. Please pay closer attention to your own prior posts. If you need to refresh your memory on what you already did, there is no shame in rereading what you wrote last time.

"Yum, bananas..." I thought to myself as I ate it....
I walked back to the waiting-room and sat down....

((The problem I'm having is that your character has too MANY abilities. You fight, you use magic, you can run at a super speed, you read minds, you heal, you use alchemy and now you turn into a demon at twilight. It gives your character a very.. unreal feeling about him. I don't say this to be mean, I just tell you this because it takes away from a RP.

For instance, take a look at my character. I only claim to have a street fighting technique and a great knowledge of guns. If I can't deal with it with my wits, speed and agility, then tough luck for me. I'm not saying make your character as err... normal as I've made mine but if you want your character to be believable by other RPers, you just simply can't have all these abilities. Even in pen and paper RP, a character can't use fighting skills and magic and be extremely good at both. You're claiming the age of 19 and already Shinzui has all these abilities? And can use them fairly well?

Once again, I don't say these things to be mean or rude. I just think these are things you need to think about when you RP. And I mean any RP you join in. It's hard for a RP to be as enjoyable or as believable with so much going on with your character. Unless you've written some kind of back story that explains these things in greater detail about your character. If you have, I'd love to take a look.))

Name: Tekai Kurosaki(prefered name: Squall Okami)
age: 19
Species: Arctic Fox
Apearence: A tall thin boy of sevevteen, he isn't very strong. He has a score of longish(medium length) icey blue hair, usually very messy or jamed into a ski cap. He wears long, tight, dark blue pants, a black longsleeve shirt and a blue board vest with icey blue flames up the sides. He always has boarding gogles around his neck and is never seen without his snowboard, wich is black, with (you guessed it) icey blue flames on the front, exept when he is in bed,(wich he hopes that no-one has seen him in omg) he wears skintight, leather black gloves that go halfway to his elboes, to protect him from the cold.
Personality: He is a fun loving, thrill seeking snowboarding pro, and is very friendly. Although trying to make friends with evryone has caused trouble for him in the past, it doesn't discourage him much. He is very determaned, wich is some times viewed as stubornness.
Abilities: Has great (but limited) control over ice and snow, and, being a boarder, is very fast. He has somewhat decent fighting skills, but, relying greatly on his power, it is very limited.

The wind was flying in his face, pushing particles of ice into it, cuting him lightly, rushing down at speeds thought inhumanly possible, Squall Okami was about to atemp a trick previously just out of his grasp. It would have been a succes too, save the piece of paper that flew up at him, sticking tohis goggles
"What the?" he exclaimed, swerving to his left, into a tree.
"Shit!" he exclaimed, brushing the snow from his legs "What was that?" He grabed the paper and examined it, it was for a turny in the town near his current location. "Hmm..." he thought, "this would be a great oppourtunity to improve my skills..." decicion made, he hopped back onto his board, turning righ, towards the village.

Walking into a bar he ordered a straight firewhisky from the bartender, a large, balding man cleaning a clean glass with a dirty rag. He sat down across from an older bunny. "Hey, I'm Kai, but call me squall, nice ta meecha!" he indroduced, holing out his left paw

OOC:   ^._.^

Sorry for the really huge post but I felt it was necessary to address various things before the plot moves along much further. First things first...

Stelthninja21, please understand that what I have been saying out of character, I have not been saying to be expressly annoying. We may have started off a bit on the wrong foot but I assure you that I am only trying to be helpful and make certain that everyone has a reasonable amount of fun. If my comments make you angry, then perhaps this thread isn't for you, as I am only trying to abide by the setting and rules I stated when I started this thread. I will not make exceptions for myself and I will not make exceptions for other players. (It isn't fair to the people who are playing by the book.) Note, I am not trying to pressure you to leave or to stay. I want you to do what is right for you. I will respond to your post in full, in case you would prefer to stay, since I must stress that these are relevant and important issues regarding the in-character plot.

---

Quote
(( If im asleep i don turn all....homicidal..

The problem is, this is a really awkward weakness for this plot thread. Twilight is by definition from daybreak to sunrise or, more commonly, from sunset to nightfall. It's the transition between day and night, it is not the entire evening. So if sleeping for an hour (or even him sleeping through the night, since the matches are being held during the day anyway) keeps it from being an issue, then it impacts nothing and it would be better to drop it for a different weakness. If he doesn't sleep and ends up in a homicidal state, then it will have an impact but it will get your character kicked out of the in-character events. This means it will hinder you to the point that you will be able to use it for a couple of posts and then have to drop out of the thread. If you want to leave the thread, in character, without going through the whole tournament, this is certainly an option. But if you would like your character to stay in it and try to succeed, you do not want this weakness. It's a viable weakness for any other thread. It just doesn't work out very well in this one.

Quote
and yes light as in illumination.

Kind of an unusual weakness but it can certainly work. I still want to know how arrows are really distinctive weaknesses. Are they a bane to him, the way the silver items and earth magic is? If so, that is fine. But if they are not, I can't wrap my mind around how it works.

Quote
and when i said I WALKED OUT i never said i went back to the waiting room i said i went to GET SOMETHING TO EAT and when i walked outta the room to FIX THE WALL

This is the biggest problem I see right now. In a fighting RP, it is very important to keep up with the details of what has been going on. Mistakes can happen and are easy to make, particularly in large posts, but when something like this happens regarding a set of very short and uncomplicated posts, it sets off my worry meter. Let me quote exactly what was posted by you. I have omitted the out of character comments, and all of the posts written by other players, but the order in which Shinzui did things is still apparent.

Quote
"I know..." I went back in the training room.....
I walked over to the destroyed wall, clapped my hands together and placed them on the hground, then the wall reformed.....
I walked out "Problem solved...." I said as I walked over to get something to eat.....

Quote
I stopped....."I know...." I said to him...
"Tell it to someone who cares, I checked for damage!" Is what I was thinking....  +++2
I continued walking to the kitchen, when I got there I a banana....
"Yum, bananas..." I thought to myself as I ate it....
I walked back to the waiting-room and sat down....

Quote
I walked into the waiting room...."Jibe is becoming increasingly annoying..." I thought to myself....
"Hey.." I said sitting down...staring at the ground....
"When does this tournament start?" I asked, not knowing that Nyxlie had already.....

So unless Shinzui walked towards the waiting room, sat down on the ground before entering the waiting room, then stood up and finally entered the waiting room before sitting down again (on a chair or on the ground; as nothing specific was mentioned it can be assumed he sat on the ground, I guess), it doesn't make sense. If you believe I have fabricated anything that I quoted above, reread the thread. Incidentally, when you are typing up a post in the input box, the thread below it is shown in reverse order.

I am not doing this to be a jerk. Like I said, we all make mistakes. I am simply concerned because, if this happens frequently in future posts, it could become extremely confusing as to what is going on during in-character matches.

and fine ill take out magic and healing plus healing is considered magic....except for the ability to send an eletrical current thru my arm thats my signature move...ive used it in ther rps and plus it dosnt kill the person if theyre strong enough...it just is basically if the other char. hasnt taken any damage it will wear them down to where they will have to forfit that is if the hit landed.

Nyxlie brought up a reasonable point and I would agree to maybe shaving off a few things. However, I will note that a character can be a jack of all trades, master of none. If you wish to be a master at all these things, you would have to remove some. You could keep more of the magic, if you have some clear limitations on how it is used. I'll give an example (though I really wanted most of this to be a secret, until Jester was in a match, but no matter.)

Jester has the ability to use magical fire but this is limited. His fire runs on his body's energy, which can wear him out if he uses up too much of his body's nutrients, and unlike magical fire from some fantasy stories/games, it really does burn. In fact, it burns him and it can latch onto others and burn them as well. (They can stop, drop, and roll, naturally, as well as douse themselves with water.) Jibe is also very resistant to fire, because of the way it feeds off of him like a parasite, so it only burns him enough to keep going. He can, for that matter, leave small balls of his fur (or skin flakes or claw clippings, but the fur is easier to see and intentionally remove) for the fire to thrive on, for longer than one might expect (since anything removed is going to become dead and no longer a part of him), but it isn't anything like a twelve or twenty-four hour period.

He can also wear gloves  or carry something flammable that he can easily hold in his hands, when he knows he needs a brief boost for a really big, strong flame. (Jester's day-to-day clothing is all flame-retardant material.) He is not able to hurl the fire, unless it is attached to something that he can throw, so nothing like a huge fireball-type spell coming from him (unless he has a catapult...) If he wants to set someone on fire, he generally has to get close enough to touch them with it first or else hit them with a thrown, fiery object. He can conjure fire up only as long as he has the energy for it, so he has a limit to how often he can conjure it and how long he can keep it going, once conjured. He also has to split his energy up between maintaining a fire or any other spell (he has a few more, equally limited) and running around, doing physical things. These may be small increments but it adds up fast and a very hungry belly is a deterrent for wanting to continue any battle.

Those are the limitations of Jester's fire spell. They can be nasty but they're very easily controlled and routed. And people can take normal, logical methods to avoid, prevent, or stop the fire. Stealthninja21, since you don't seem to have an expansive amount of RPing experience, I would just recommend avoiding the other forms of magic. Your character is still a sizable force with just the pressure point fighting, the alchemy, the speed, reading minds (a very handy ability in a fight), and the electrical currents.

Though, with regards to the electrical currents (and any other ability that anyone may have), if the ability can kill someone by chance, then you can't use them, unless you can control their deadliness to a very high degree. This is really the key to any ability. You must be able to control how lethal any capability is and guarantee that your character can maintain a non-lethal version of it throughout an entire match. The people running the tournament don't allow for "if they're tough enough, and haven't been hit, they won't die." Their goal is for absolutely no one to die (if at all possible... the group running the tournament can be held accountable for manslaughter too.)

Let me explain why this is so important. The character's goal is to win against the other characters. So his first attack would always be the lightening pulse, until it hit or until he gave up and tried another attack, which would either knock them out or injure them considerably. If the other character subsequently becomes injured from another attack that landed, then the character with the lightening pulse can no longer use it because it's rate of lethality has just sky-rocketed. This is a restrictive and predictable strategy. And even if the lightening pulse does land on the other character, without them having been hit first, if they aren't very tough then they could still potentially die. Most people aren't going to allow their characters to die, because they don't want them to. And if they do die, then the character with lightening pulse is disqualified. So the logical reaction for the other player is to never let that attack touch their character, since it constitutes an automatic loss for them, or else brush it off, which isn't realistic given the parameters listed for its strength.

This is why the character who uses an ability is supposed to be able to control the variables attached to it. Not the opponent character, who will want to avoid an uncontrollable attack at all cost (but who must allow a few hits to land on them throughout the match, as a matter of realism and keeping things interesting.) If the referee or the on-hand medic can easily keep the character alive and safeguard against death, then the ability is also valid.

For instance, if someone went unconscious just shortly after Jester sets them on fire, the referee can put the fire out fairly easily and the medic could see to the burns and help to heal them. If the character panicked and was clearly being badly burned in the arena (or the fire was spreading very quickly), the match would be paused, and this could still be done. (If the burnt character, after being attended to, still felt like fighting, then the match would continue. If they concede at that point, then Jester would win. If the fire spread to any of the illegal areas, Jester would risk disqualification, but he could also try to put them out if his opponent didn't put them out before that.) These are all things that that character and other characters (even Jester) can help to control the outcome of, so that the character would not automatically end up dead.

Does that make sense?

---

Now. Onto the plot itself. Jester said the tournament would begin in a couple of days, in-character. There are some out of character options to go over with everyone involved.

If everyone wants to go ahead and start as soon as possible,  we can say some time has passed ICly and go ahead with the actual tournament. My personal preference would be to wait a few more days, in real life, and see if anyone else joins the thread. If we wait, we can bring a gentle close to the pre-tournament in-character interactions, leave the thread alone for that time, and then start up with the tournament immediately after. We could also keep going with the pre-tournament interactions while we wait, if you guys would prefer to do that instead. I'm open to any, just say what you want to do.

There is also the issue of how we'll handle the matches. We can do one match at a time, if that is preferred (though the characters not in the match will be idle or doing random interaction while they wait for their turn), or we can have all of the first set of matches at once. Choose either or suggest another option.

Also, we need to decide who will face who for the first set of matches. As it stands, we currently have five contestant characters. Jester and Jibe are both in the tournament. I'm going to let everyone vote for who they want their opponent to be. I will not vote, since I have two characters, but they are still up for selection by the rest of you.

Admittedly, five contestants is not an optimal number. The original hope was for there to be an even number of characters, so that everyone would have someone to fight and no one would fight twice in the first set. There are several options we could go with, though.

If we wait for at least one more player and/or character to join (feel free to make a second character, by all means), we will have an even number and there won't be an issue (anyone who joins after the matches have started, must wait until at least one match has ended and an opponent chosen.) But if we don't wait, we will have to determine something else. I could drop a character from the tournament (most likely Jibe, as Jester has ICly professed his intent) or one character could face two characters in succession (but not in the same match) or three characters could fight in a match (but this could be awkward and the most likely outcome is that two would gang up on one. Then those two would fight each other, once the third opponent drops out.) Everyone decide what you think would be best and we'll see if there is any option that got the most votes.

Last one is a question I have for Tekai. Were you introducing your character to Nyxlie? She's currently at the ancient ruins arena, with the other contestants. If you weren't, I'll be glad to RP the NPC rabbit for as long as you like.

Now for something completely different!

:squish:

IC:

The image of the torch-lit hallways and rooms flickered quickly through Jester's mind, once he finally remembered what he'd been sleeping on the past few nights. It was a very spartan, not especially comfy sort (collapsible for easy transport), made out of thick, heavy cloth and metal poles. They were useful but he would have preferred a proper bed. Still, he wondered why everyone was so sleepy all of a sudden.

"Beds?" he asked, "Beds... Turn right from the doorway, down the hall, keep straight, third door on the left. There's a bunch of cots in there. Should be a pile of folded blankets and pillows and stuff on a table too."

Then he started working on his fish a little further and blinked at Shinzui and Nyxlie curiously.

OOC:

I'd say wait a few days and see if anyone else happens to enter the RP. Can always hope. And I'd prefer 1vs1 matches myself. As for how many go on at once... well, my first thought is to say one at a time. That way, other contestants can watch and put in their own comments during the match, make assessments and such. If we did this though, that would mean that no match could go on for a horribly long time. It's a tough call on that.

IC:

Nyxlie smiled at Jester and nodded, "Thanks. I can't wait to see you in the arena."

Nodding to Shinzui and Jester, Nyxlie got up and walked out of the room.

IC: Squall walked through the desolate mountain towards were the girl had said the turny was being held, as he thought back to it, he realized, with a blush, that she was really cute.

When it became clear she was not going to shake his hand, he lowered it slowly, caughing...
"So, I was looking for a tournament around here, I saw a flyer up in the mountains..."
She snapped her head towards him,
"the tournament!? You!? You'de never survive!!!" she looked pretty worried,
"What!?" he replied, with as much horror, "How would you know!? you've never seen me fight!?"
She replaid as such: "your're only seventeen...blah blah blah... no experience...blah blah blah... and so forth and so forth, at wich point he opened the window and swirled snow and ice around her. "Still think I don't stand a chance?" I asked innocently, She told me then, looking suitably chagrined about it

To Stelthninja21:

It has become clear to me that you didn't understand most of what I typed in my prior post. I don't know why and I refuse to guess at why. All I know is that I am tired of futilely explaining things, at great length, only to find that they have completely gone over your head. I am, for that matter, tempted to think you are a troll because you are responding like one. Let me say this in as plain a format as I can think of.

You don't understand the rules of this setting. This RP is beyond your experience. You will struggle to grasp what is going on later because you have trouble grasping what is going on right now.

I don't expect any of that to change anytime soon. I regret to inform you that you might be better off ignoring this thread.

---

To Tekai Kurosaki:

She can be another referee if you want. She could also be a medic, since I didn't think to list any NPC medics. One or two named ones would probably suffice. If you want her to hang around as an NPC, you can name her and decide which one she is.

As for NPC fighters... it's certainly a potential idea, though it might be a bit boring for the person who ends up fighting them. Other players should say how they feel about that.

---

To SammieWolf:

I would like to point out a few things. The locals of this mountain city and the folks running the tournament have nothing against furries. There are plenty of furries living there and they have held tournaments for this specific arena before, so they have seen their fair share of odd furries. The tournament is also entirely nonlethal. They are not likely to have guns there. Now, I am not saying anyone has to know exactly what species your character is but the NPC response was bizarre given these factors. Please reassure me that you've read the setting and understand its implications. Forgive me if I am jumping to conclusions. I am just overly anxious at this point. I am not trying to be overbearing (really!)

Okay. But once you arrive at the tournament area, they will amass enough of a force to make any hunters, that they see on your trail or that you notify them of, leave the area. (Plenty of NPCs and PCs to do it. At least one NPC would be a police officer, I'm sure.) They're not going to allow random people to try killing or maiming their prospective contestants.

I don't think it's unrealistic for Dove to put rules into a TOURNAMENT.  This is a controlled environment with rules and regulations.  She stated in her very first post how this RP would be and made no effort to hide that.  Not only that but she has been very upfront and honest.  I don't think it's very hard to respect the writer of the RP and follow what she has set out.  Quite frankly, RPs where people are free to destroy and kill without any real consequence whatsoever and might I add, to a very large degree is just.... silly.  If that's what people want to do, that's fine with me and I just won't enter the RP because that is my choice.  Same goes here, if you don't like the fact you cannot destroy and kill with far too many abilities at your disposal, you choose not to enter the RP.

P.S. I truly hope more enter the tournament btw because I would love to see some competitive furry on furry action. ^ ^ (no, not in the bad way, you gutter heads haha)
