Title: Furries and Nekos.
Post by: Just_Kitten on November 04, 2012, 11:17:42 PM
So.. Long before I had heard of furries I heard of nekos. I've noticed since, when In the company of furries, at conventions, on SL and such, that there is not a lot if love for nekos. It's a big part of the reason I've avoided the furry community, until recently. So I ask.. How do you feel about nekos? Any opinions on why some furries seem to not like nekos?

Well, I'd never heard of them until you posted this. :P  I just looked them up though, and I don't think I have any problem with them. Apparently they're exclusively female, so that might be one of the reasons why they're not as popular at conventions as furries. I'm not sure why furries would harbor any particular hatred for them.

There are male versions of nekos, but they are few and far between and generally just called "cat boys". Heh heh. Anyway, I thought it was strange... I mean, Whats cuter than a girl with cat ears? Mmeeow! :3

I think furries just get uptight about it sometimes because nekos are more or less just humans with animal ears/tails. Anthropomorphic (furry) characters have much more "animal" in them, so there might be some people who rant about how nekos aren't "true furries" or whatever. Nekos also end up trapped sort of in between the anime and furry fandoms, so people might argue over which fandom it better fits into.

It's kind of ridiculous either way. The more the merrier. I'm sure there are plenty of people in the fandom, myself included, who have no issues with nekos.

Whoa, I never realized that. That would be between Furry and Anime, wouldn't it?

Welp, I've never heard of or seen a furry who hates nekos. I myself, don't mind. Furrry, brony, otaku, neko, etc.
We're kind people ^_^

Plus, nekos rock, they're so adowwible!

Pretty much. I used to be one of those furs that was all like "Neko's are just posers! They need to get outta here, etc etc" but then I realize that I was taking the whole thing way too seriously. xD

Anyone who's any part animal and identifies with furry should be welcome with open arms, because its just that simple; any degree of anthro is still anthro, we shouldn't discriminate. :P

Sorry but this is something that rather annoys me, as well as its a very biggest pet peeve of mine.

First things first, the word "Neko" means cat in Japanese, that's it. It does not mean a person with cat ears an a cat tail and it never did. The term for someone with Cat ears, Dog Ears, Wolf ears, Etc. Ears and tail ... is Kemonomimi which means literally translates into "Beast Ears" in Japanese.

Second thing I'd like to mention is, Kemonomimi was not even really or ever has tried to associate itself with the furry community, it originated as a style of Japanese animation normally to depict animal spirits in human form.  A great example of this is, is the fact that before I even knew the furry fandom existed my original first ever OC was a Wolf Kemonomimi. So how can I be a poser if I don't even know what I'm posing as, Kemonomimi are a part of the "Otaku" fandom.
