Title: Fun Facts!
Post by: FurryJunky on June 17, 2012, 03:58:01 PM
Lets all hear some interesting facts that we might of never knew!
Ill start by explaining the deferences between a normal DVD player and a Blue Ray DVD player.

First off thies two devices work the same but that one is alot more powerfull/advanced then the other.
First off they both work by emitting a lazer that reflects off of the gooves and bumps in a CD
and is then analized by a device in the DVD player. The beam in a normal player would look the color red,
while in a Blue-Ray DVD player would be.... BLUE!
This is because a blue beam is stronger then a red beam!!!! GASP!!!

A red beam in term of waves is very narrowed and does not "wave" up and down as much.
A blue beam in term of waves spreads up and down alot more then a red beam therefore able to "scan" alot more.

This also is why the sky would look red smetimes and why the sky is blue most of the time(and why we dont see thoes red skys as much anymore"Global Warming" :S
It has to do with the sun and partcles in our atmosphere. Ill tell you more in-def if you want...

I remember there was a thread like this before... but I can't find it and it must of been locked,
I was trying to track down my old post.

Ok here it goes :P , re-posting the post I made there :P

These are some interesting things to grasp (I use the SI Nukes. 1 Nuke is the same as the energy emitted from the atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki (Fat Man) in WW2)
Just some interesting things :P

The last one is meant to say to include ALL energy, it also was hard to calculate due to the fact it was a geometric sequence =/ XD

Everyone here must know what an EMP is. If you don't know then it's an Electro Magnetic Pulse that literally fries any electronic device, your ipod, laptop, tv, EVERYTHING! Even you car won't work if one goes off. But here's the fun part. You could put all the above (exept your car)  in a microwave (if they all could fit in there) and un-plug it and the EMP won't get to them but remember to un-plug the microwave or everything in there is good as cooked. :P

That I noticed. I'm impressed that his brain has its own Wikipedia article.

Which brings me to my two cents on the matter of fun facts:

People never research their material! This is not directed at Raz or anyone in this thread in any way, but at people in general that seem to naïvely buy anything they're told without a speck of suspicion or critical thinking.

I propose that from now on, you will prove your facts with documentation of some sort!

- There is no evidence that (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horned_helmet#Popular_association_with_Vikings) Vikings wore horns on their helmets. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viking#Horned_helmets)
- Marie Antoinette did not actually use the phrase "let them eat cake". (http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/dubiousquotes/a/antoinette.htm)
- Albert Einstein did not fail mathematics in school. (http://physics.about.com/b/2007/09/19/physics-myth-month-einstein-failed-mathematics.htm)
- Searing meat does not "seal in" moisture, and in fact may actually cause meat to lose moisture. (http://culinaryarts.about.com/od/cookingmethods/a/sealinjuices1.htm)
- Lemmings do not engage in mass suicidal dives off cliffs when migrating. (http://www.abc.net.au/science/articles/2004/04/27/1081903.htm)
- Waking sleepwalkers does not harm them.  (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=waking-a-sleepwalker-may-kill-them)
- Humans have more than five senses. (http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2010/07/humans-have-a-lot-more-than-five-senses/)
- Shaving does not cause terminal hair to grow back thicker or coarser or darker.  (http://www.forteantimes.com/strangedays/mythbusters/344/shaving_for_growth.html)
- Napoleon was not short. (http://europeanhistory.about.com/od/bonapartenapoleon/a/napoleonheight.htm)
- "Kangaroo" does not mean "I don't know". (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kangaroo#Terminology)
Just to burst a few bubbles...

These may also be wrong, but at least these are facts that I've heard many times before, and most of them on the show QI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QI) that actually focuses on myths, general ignorance and misconceptions. I'm sure these people do their research before adding facts to their show.

I heard Albert Einstein was Aspie, and it sounds quite likely to me.

anyways, here's how FTL space travel may be possible.

Using the ADM formalism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ADM_formalism) of general relativity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_relativity), the spacetime (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spacetime) is described by a foliation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foliation) of space-like hypersurfaces (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypersurface) of constant coordinate time t. The general form of the metric described within the context of this formalism is:where is the lapse function that gives the interval of proper time between nearby hypersurfaces, is the shift vector that relates the spatial coordinate systems on different hypersurfaces is a positive definite metric on each of the hypersurfaces.

The A-10 fighter jet was actually designed to make the GAU-8 Avenger (A 10mm Anti-Tank 7barrell Gatling gun) fly. The whole plane is basically a flying gun with add-on missiles!

That's the GAU-8, that MASSIVE thing stuck to the planes belly :P

And that's the plane, what a beast =^^= Halo fans might also be interested that the plains main nickname is "The Warthog"

There was a college professor who was challenged to hack a UAV Drone.
And he actually did it with less then $1000 worth of equipment!
Kinda scary that each drone is capable of wielding a warhead!!! :S

And that is precisely why I am pro-pilot, UAVs just don't do it nearly as well.
