Title: Music Making Software
Post by: anoni on May 03, 2012, 12:46:14 PM
Not sure if I this belongs in Tech, but I am looking for some music making software. By Music Making Software I mean creating original music, I'm not so interested in mixing/remixing already made songs, but wish to make songs of my own from scratch, the genre I am looking for is techno/electro music. Keep in mind, that I do have a keyboard that is compatible with most music making software.

The music software I have already considered are
Cakewalk: I used this for a time, but does not have the music genre I like
Rapture: seems outdated
DJPro: seems outdated
FL Studio: Primarily for mixing, not for original music creation

Does anyone have any ideas? :3

I already have Audacity and have already used it EXTENSIVELY XD
But alas, Audacity is again, only for editing already made song, but not for creating actual music...

unless your music is a series of generated sine tones XD

well cakewalk is probably best for you as you know how to play piano and that is the basis if it's input
have you looked for plugins for cakewalk?

about FLstudio: i have a friend who uses it extensively for original music production.
you may be overlooking it a touch to fast.

i wonder if you can get garageband for windows.

for music mixing, try traktor

Aye I'm a young electronic musician- ill through in my two cents ;).
Studio 1 is good but pricy
Sony acid pro/Sony acid workshop is very good (I prefer it and I believe Renard Queenston uses it)
Logic pro 9 is the ultimate and the best u can buy but is VERY expensive only works with macs and is a base of $200, so really for the true musician, (however the annalog synths are just the WORST designs ever just hate em)

Maybe not what you're looking for, but Guitar Pro is quite nice imo. It's a tablature software (for making and sharing guitar tabs, the guitar counterpart of a note chart). However it has a playback ability which let's you play through it all which I, both for learning and writing songs, find very useful! :3

It also has the ability to display the more traditional note charts if you want.

Though I'm just starting out myself making a rave- type music band, so I guess this makes us competitors eh?    Though I have to ask, are u running a standard MIDI synth or full blown workstation, bbecause u may not need a full synth program
