Title: Tablet, or Smart Phone?
Post by: Nrein on April 23, 2012, 03:11:44 AM
I actually have this dilemma right now. I have an available phone upgrade with my contract, so I could get something that isn't an "entry level" Smart Phone.

 At the same time, I could get a new Tablet, since I don't truly have a "Mobile Computing" solution. I may have a great laptop, but it's bulky and heavy, not really something you want to carry on with you everywhere.

 The only problem is the price. The phone I can get for about $200, plus monthly payments. But that gives me a better, new phone. Or I can get the Tablet that does everything my Laptop does, but more mobile so I can go anywhere with it, though it costs $499

 If you had to choose, would you go with a new Tablet, or Smart Phone?

for the cost of a tablet, you can get a laptop that's much better. and when you look at the weight, a 15.6" only weighs 5 1/2 pounds with the battery in. it's NOT that heavy. maybe it's just me, but unless you're actually carrying less than 20 pounds on your person, it's not about EVERY ONCE. you're better off getting a phone, which is more functional, and broadens your current abilities in terms of everyday work or even just doing anything in general.

I was personally planning on getting an HTC EVO, only because I've used it and I love how it works.

But if I were to get a Tablet, I'd get that shiny new Asus Transformer Prime >3>

asus prime is the best to get at the moment, in terms of overall performance. quad core, 1 GB RAM, 32 GB, and a full Nvidea graphics engine. it's the only one that doesn't have a hiccup and constantly runs extremely fluent.

I beg to differ, I'm loving my Galaxy Nexus.

Tegra 3 isn't that awesome tbh, I'm more waiting to see what the new rumored quad core Samsung Exynos can do. Also the prime has the GPS issue.. but otherwise it's a nice tablet indeed, though the Transformer infinity looks promising as well.

For the question, I suggest a first smartphone and then looking into a tablet afterwards.

compare it functionally to a Motorola Android X2 or and EVO, it's crap. It's not smooth, and it tends to skip frames more than a lot of the smart phones.

- It's a Nexus phone, so it runs vanilla
- I've noticed no skipped frames and it's smoother than a baby's butt.
- Native ICS, neither EVO nor any Motorola to my knowledge officially runs 4.0 at time of writing.
- Did I mention the OMAP 4460 SOC is very snappy and well performing?
- Functionality? What I don't find already out of the box I am yet not to find an app that does for me

I think I may of actually made my choice.

I'm planning on getting an HTC Arrive ^^;.

It's a Windows 7 Phone, which I have had experience with before, and it's well within a price range that I can easily cover. Not to mention, it will most likely be able to hold of my getting a Tablet for awhile.

I'm not too much of a WP7 fan myself, but I hope you'll enjoy it :D

Thanks ^^;
From what I've tried, I like it thus far. Not to mention most of my Software is Microsoft (Zune, MSN, etc.) So it kinda makes everything a bit easier ^^;

I have a galaxy tab then use my rooted samsung epic on sprint to enable a free hotspot if I need to go online. With the galaxy when I am away from a wifi connection
Win mobile is a lost cause.  U will do better with android.   Plus win 8 is going to make most previous win os and computers obsolete.  As its going to be touch screen based like current android tablets...
