I got into a discussion with a friend of mine. See, me and another friend wanted to watch Kill bill Vol 2. but this friend claims that the movie is too simple. I suggest to him that the movie is more complex if you analyze it further, then he states something interesting. "A complex movie is one that is confusing". I had never thought about it that way, and I've been trying to come up with a movie that has a simple storyline but is still confusing.
So, what do you think? Do you think a movie is complex if it's confusing? If so, elaborate, if not, why don't you think that? :P

Well, I think a movie is complex if it has a lot to the story and requires a bit of thinking to understand. So yes, a confusing movie very likely can be called complex but I wouldn't say that's what defines a complex movie.
As for a nice example, Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch is a movie I think is very complex. They story is a bit confusing and as well not before having seen it 3-4 times I actually feel I understand the whole story, by that I mean that what my initial assumption of what the movie actually was about and what happened in it I then found to be more or less wrong because the movie was not only confusing but also very deep and really requiring a lot of attention and thinking to fully understand. Though I must say it's very well thought out and just awesome once you understand it.
That's my example of a truly complex movie.

Other VERY complicated, but not less fun, movies are:
-Inception, with the dream in a dream in a dream in a dream (in a dream?)
-Lucky Number Slevin, in which every little, strange detail is, in the end, explained. Kansas City Shuffle, anyone?
I myself like the complicated movies more. Moviea like Sucker Punch and the ones mentioned above are often the best kind of movies. Although I like the simpler movies, like Ice age (holy crab!!!) as well. ;)

I just recently watched Sucker Punch and I do have to agree that it is a complex movie.
My definition of a complex movie is that a complex movie has to have a complex plot and storyline. By that, I just don't mean a sort of "american" hero that saves the day at the end of the movie. Complex movies needs plots that are twisted, mind blowing and that is so hard to follow that when the climax and ending comes, that it is totally unexpected.
And for that, movies such as Lucky Number Slevin, Snatch, Sucker Punch, Fight Club, Ocean's Eleven, Ocean's Twelve, Ocean's Thridteen, All the Saw movies (when you see beyond the murders) and The Matrix are complex movies for me :3
Oh and a complex movie can be funny too. Like Snatch xD
