I don't have any funny or interesting quirks, as much as I'd like to feel "special". But I do have some small tricks and habits that I do to make my daily life more fun, interesting or just easier. This is the thread where you can all share your little tricks like these, with everyone else.
CAUSE:
I like chewing gum, but sometimes weeks pass between each time I do. I keep them in an old fashioned film roll box with a rubber lid. It can hold two packets of gum at once, so I usually buy two different kinds I like and mix them together.
EFFECT:
The box is air-tight, so the gum can stay fresh for months in it. The reason I mix two kinds is to get a tiny little surprise whenever I take one.
It's a small trick, or habit, but I find it worth the trouble. Do you have any?

I sometimes get like 5 or 6 oreas and a fork and then a scoop out the cream of 5 of the oreas and eat the biscuts, then I put all of the cream from those 5 oreas into one orea to make a SIXSTUFFEDOREAOFEPICNESS. Yeah, that's all I could think of haha :P
-
anytime I'm feeling sick to my stomach, i just chew on some ice, crushed preferably. always helps make me feel slightly better
-
If I have to remember to do something when I get up the next day I put a pillow on the floor at the door before I go to bed so when I see it in the morning it reminds me.
-
This is kin of weird but since I moved in my appartment, each night before going to bed, I always close my bathroom door. Now, I'm not doing that because I'm scared of Bloody Mary or some other crap like that... But I just feel like closing it O.o
-
That is more of a habit than a trick though isn't it? It doesn't serve a purpose like for instance this:
Whenever I feel that icky feeling in the roof of my mouth before a cold takes place, I sacrifice my taste buds (since they return in a few days anyway) and drink something really hot. By heating up my mouth to the point it hurts, the viruses and germs die and thus, I rarely (if ever) get colds.
I hear you get the same result if you have a lot of ice cream but I haven't tried that one out yet. Some burning hot tea is cheaper and healthier too.
Did you know that being cold/out in the cold doesn't make you sick? It's only when your nose and passages are cold that the germs thrive better and you have a higher chance if catching a cold.

Hmm I have a few quirks, but nothing that fits :/
Oh I know! When I meet someone new I probe their brains without letting on xD I try to get people to say as much as possible with me saying as little as possible, to try and get a grasp on how intelligent they are :P
Hmm... I have a constant fear of being kidnapped (one of my childhood friends was) so I carry between three and seven knives on me at any time.
Luckily never really need to use them, but still o.o.
Uhh... What else... Sometimes I'll make a sandwhich with one piece of bread in the center surrounded by the other ingredients :P
Uhh... I usually sew in earbuds to my hoodies so that I can listen to music without loos cords. That's all I can think of.

I'm watchin you now o.o I know your type, lol j/k
I usually carry an "emergency bag" in my car at all times, but I like to sometimes refer to it as a "bug out bag."
I currently keep survival gear, 3 days worth of emergency food and water, as well a couple hunting/survival knives, medium size first aid kit, and a drop bag that can be attached to a belt that holds some essential survival gear. I still need to add a small shelter to the gear-been on the hunt for something acceptable for that.
As per my paranoia, I keep a smell set of tools, and car fluids in my trunk a lot of the time :P
I also carry small amounts of wire in the car, because in the past, I have in fact needed to hot-wire certain parts of my car that decided to not work. E.g.- radiator fans, stupid old alarm systems, etc. But ya gotta know your car pretty well to do that-and be desperate, haha.
I also keep a spare car key in my wallet, immensely useful if you leave your keys in the car. Which I have done, but only once or twice. :P
Here in Florida, it likes to rain on the most sunny of days-and I have found through practice, that wearing polarized sunglasses in the rain-even if its a little dreary out-can drastically improve vision-no scientific proof on that though. If I had to guess, I'd say the polarization really helps with the reflection of the sun off the water.
-
You have a [as you called it "bug-out bag"], too! xD I keep a toolbox, lots of wire and electrical tape, a reflector panel, a military pup tent, a small crank generator, a hunting solar panel, water and military rations in my truck. :P
Also for shelter- The 1 or 2 man tents you can find at any surplus store work excellently. Lightwieght, durable and fairly cheap. Luckily they dont take up much space either.
-
Wow. You guys are well more prepared than me. All I really carry is a socket set, cable ties, jack (4ft hi-lift), rachet strap and a heavy hammer.
To stay on topic those polarised sun glasses are good for fishing as well for the same reason.
-
I always bring a pair of polarised glasses when I go fishing xD It's cheating, I concede that. Poor fish is at a further disadvantage... But I'll cheat for my dinner.
Another quirk I should say xD

People, these are quirks and not tips for improving life quality. Please read the first post and stay on that topic.

I sometimes "speak in tongues", lapsing into other languages or sometimes just accents.

when ever i get a burn (usually from my own stupidity) i put mustard on it....
the burn goes bi bi!!

OH!
If you have the hiccups try a block of chocolate, for some reason it heals the hiccups almost instantly, It's worked consistently with 3 different people I know and has never failed
-
I discovered that whenever I have the hiccups, just focusing on it would make it go away since I gain control over the muscles causing it. Just simply sit down, focus on it, think about it, expect it... and it never comes.
That's why I think there are so many different remedies to hiccups that "are sure to work". Because they all do since it makes you focus on the hiccups itself while expecting it to be gone.
-
That actually makes quite a lot of sense
-
I've tried teaching this to friends, but only one has understood and succeeded so far. The rest didn't manage to lose the hiccups and turned to their methods.
-
Though, it could also be similar to the placebo effect, where focusing on your hiccups just makes you think that will improve your hiccups, and because of that you hiccups actually improve. Who knows XD
-
Well after I managed to stop it WITH THE POWER OF MY MIND (*dramatic face*) I haven't hiccupteded in.. at least 7 years. Doesn't matter really. Hiccups are uncomfortable and best cured one way or another.
If you have a small cut like a paper cut, putting some nail polish or super glue on it will sting for a few seconds but then serve as an air and water tight seal to let your skin heal without getting ripped open whenever you stretch that skin.
-
Didn't they use super glue in Vietnam to patch up wounded soilders?
-
Maybe so. It's pretty good IMO and a quick fix. I know athletes do it a lot nowadays.
