furry emassador program:someone to reperesent us to the regualr people to extinguish stereotypes associated with the fandom
-
I'm sorry to be that guy, but a Furry Ambassador program I think would be a waste of resources and effort.
Sorry, but I've never really seen it as an issue to "get our name out there in the general populace." We have no real issues (that I am aware of, I could be wrong) that need addressing.
I vote no.

^ What he said. :P
-
I could see this easily going the way of the Phantom Menace >3>
-
Unless furries are being pulled from their homes and sent to concentration camps I don't really see a need to make some sort of Ambassador Programme. Sure we have some pretty crappy stereotypes and we get bullied quite a bit. But hey, those are kinda always relevant in anyone's life already.
-
It would be kinda handy to have a spokesperson though, wouldn't it? Someone trusted to not be that "crazy fetish freak"but an adult, mature and smart person.
Not for anything large though since as said above here, there's no real agenda going on.
-
The problem any kind of spokesperson existing is that being "furry" means a very wide variety of things to so many people that it's kind of impossible to take one person and have them speak for all of us.
-
I dont really have problems with people who dont know what a furry is in my city. The only thing that where said to me was when i was on a fur suit walk and i was in my suit. Some one yellled out fur fags , yiff in hell stuff like that. Another time a home less person yelled out "i got to stop takeing these" ( iam assuimeing it was drugs). those only happened once
Mostly people want photos with us, they love us.
-
that person(s) would need a ton of patience, time, and public speaking skills, like really good and strong knowledge of course.
either way, i dont think this is really needed

I really don't think furries are facing such discrimination that we warrant ambassadors. It's not like people are being killed for being furries or anything of the sort. Yes, there are some negative furry stereotypes, and yes, we get bullied quite a bit, especially on the internet, but that happens to pretty much any group that deviates from the norm. It's not like we're being lynched or forbidden to use facilities that other people can use, or anything like that.
-
The more we act like we're any different than any other fandom or any other people, the more of a "gap" we create. People have opinions, and they have every right to negative opinions and impressions. Not everyone has time to thoroughly research every little thing they hear about, so misinformation is a given (especially with something not a lot of people are really concerned with anyway).
Rather than trying to change the opinions of others, maybe we could focus on what aspects of our own fandom and the behavior we tolerate in it that solidifies those stereotypes. Many will complain about how everyone thinks furries are sex freaks, yet far fewer bat an eye - let alone speak up - at indecent behavior off of sites for adult material or at furries heckling people off of such sites for yiff, despite the fact those things add real weight to that claim that has nothing to do with CSI, trolls, or any of the usual scapegoats.

I'm Still all new to this and have not seen much in my area that people hate furry (As well not saying that there aren't either).
But to have some one that a basic idea on things and help in situation would be an good idea, but currently I do not see that as issue.
Again i'm still new to all this so i may be vary wrong with this information.

Looking at the poll itself and then the responses, I'm a bit curious.
The "No"s are outrunning the "Yes"s by one, but the responses are generally in the negative...
As one that really loves to see all sides of the equation, please write why you say yes. I'm really curious about your reasoning!

I haven't voted yet, as I'm not sure what you guys mean, but I mean that this might be a god idea, though, there is to many factors in the fandom for only one person to handle, there should be multiple... and those should have good connections with each other so we get all the points out, so I mean yes, we should have ambassadors, or whatever that is, and no, we shouldn't. it's a task to big, furies are known to stay together, we deffend each other, and protect ourself in groups as the opportunity shows, and we are known as one furry fandom, that means we should speak with one voice. though it isn't a god idea, it is the view I have on the fandom, we stand for each other, as a family, we support each other, and I think this is right... and please correct me if I'm wrong

I really dont know , I didn't get my vote in the pole ,furry has such a wide variety of meanings (As I agreed with zypher). I see the label of furry ending up as a set meaning if a ambassador takes this on .Furry means different things to everybody , though some it will mean the same or close to. Then some it means what we dont want it to even relate to .Its really tough ..
-
I don't think an "official ambassador" is really necessary. Just go into a community, hide your "furriness" until you are a trusted member if the community, then subtly reveal yourself. Bam! Ambassador.

I think it would be very interesting if we there was an actual documentary about the fur fandom, I think it would make for some good film footage haha

i suppose that it is just a regonal thing. i do know the person who started this poll. i have to say that were we live it would probably imporove our situation here. agian maybe just a regional thing.... :3
