Recently I have lost a friend because he dislikes furies very strongly. During our first hour class he resolved to tell me that all curries were damned to hell and that athiests should beelined up or shot. Of caurs this offended me and his resolve because be lost the argument is to tell the school I'm gay. I may not be gay but I don't see the problem with it and I'm a cross dresser I suppose my point is if any of u have ever had this same problem...__
-
Yeah it really is unfortunate that there are people like that out there. I would just ignore them and not associate them if they are going to be like that; they're not worth your time.
-
Sounds like he's the one with the problem, honestly. Some people are just really unreasonable when it comes to disagreements. I hope he doesn't stir up too much chaos at your school, try to keep a cool head regardless of whatever he tries to do next.
-
sounds like he isn't worth being your friend. you are better than him in this case my friend :3
-
i have had this problem before but it was with really close friend of mine. after awhile they stopped being so against it when i explained what i was. After a while they came back around. And if he does continue to do this, he is not worthy of your friendship.

i tried explaining it to him, but in his eyes people with tails are rong. i dont undestand how on earth he would see fit to explain all of this in front of me.
-
just say that it's something you like and he needs to get over it. If he can't then he doesn't sound like the kind of friend you want to keep anyway.
But yeah, I've stopped talking to people because they couldn't accept one thing about me and thought that was enough to end an entire friendship. It sucks when it happens but I don't want friend that will get hung up on one stupid little thing and just forget about everything else that we get along about.
-
i see...i wonder if i should talk to the school counselor about it?
-
in my experience school counselors are zero help :P I say cut him loose, a friend is somebody who accepts you for who you are, no matter what.
-
mm..i agree. ive already deleted his contact information. and removed him from my xbox live...not much else i can do, i mean im stuck with him till the end of the year. hes in my tech and art class >:(

One thing I hate is that no non-furry can say there are sick furries without stereotyping the entire community. Even if they say only 90% of the community are sick, which is a huge exageration, they can't say it without pretty much labeling the entire community as scum. And the worst part is that there's no reasoning with these guys because their life depends on being right. They will scrape the bottom of the barrel for reasons why they are right and that 90% of furries are sick and the other 10% suck as well cause they're trying to argue with a MORON! You can never get them to say "Oh, I guess you have a point there." No, no matter how much you argue with them, they will never admit they're wrong. You could even say that furries are no different from anyone else and that doesn't help. Too many labels like "Furries are the only ones who complain. Furries are the only ones who are sick. Blah blah blah." Sometimes guys like these anger me more than trolls do.
But honestly, most furry haters are like this: They never see reason. They only see the dark side of the community, even most non-furries do. Honestly, I think it's depressing.

i have to agree, over the hollidays most of my inamideat family had disowned me because they are super religous and bible thumpers and they absolutly hate furries, my step grandma desided to give me a duffle bag for x-mas instead of her original pressent, a set of legos beause she doesnt like furries. same with my unkle who decided that furries go agianst the church >:(

That really just angers me. How is it freaking against religious stuff or whatever?? It's just a darn interest!!! Nothing more than being a video gamer or artist!!! Ugh, people are so stupid >:(
-
ya i know people are just scared of things that are different. though i dont understand why to be honost my mom doesnt care, my brother and sister doesnt care but when it comes to inemidiant family they show no support and no intrest. they dont even want to hear what i have to say about the fandom. :'(

Haha, good joke.
On a more serious, note. The people who immediately connect the furry fandom to bestiality are among the most annoying of people. They have no intention to listen to logic or reason, normally. The best course of action of course is to ignore them. They are hardly worth your time if they're going to hate you over an interest.

No offense, but I strongly dislike it when people tell others to ignore those that hate them as if they will go away if you just sit there and take abuse. I, personally, would rather stand up for myself than take the abuse. ...Just saying.
-
mmmm, my course of action presisly. i hate having to ignore a problem especially when it can be delt with, and i know just how to deal with it! B)
-
hey tallice... i think we'll have to eventually cut him off.....might be the only the way to get some sence into him. but meh, well find out. i was actually argueing with him over XBL today....that little dude just made me MORE mad...
-
there is no reason to people like him. the sadest part is that there are more people like him who think the same D:
-
yea.... we cant do much about it either. all we can do is keep on keepin on..
-
i have this problem with these kids at school and the only way i see to fix that is to (will not say cause i will get into trouble) you know seems like the only course of action left since ignoring doesn't work,
-

If they're physically attacking you, I'd see why this would be necessary. I know that a lot of people hate me for stupid reasons, and I usually don't hand them the attention they so hungrily desire. Once they realise that the reaction they are trying to pull out of you is not going to happen, they move on. Problem solved.
It's just like that old saying goes, "Don't feed the trolls."

In theory, but being called names and what-not hurts. If I just ignore them and don't stand up for myself, they're practically getting away with every insult they throw at me. Like if they call me retarded, and I don't defend myself by saying why I'm not retarded, then I might as well be retarded.
-
to be honost i dont see why people think the fandom is so 'outragously wierd' or 'evil' the only thing i could see that is apparent to other people not in the fandom is the wearing of collars, but its really not that big of a deal, they arent the one wearing it
-
Just ignore them. Dont let it get to you, i have had problems like this befor. they think furry is a fetish, or your going to hell beacuse you like anthro ect... I have had this problem with my friends mom befor she was strongly ageinst anythig furry. Nothing worked.
Try to educate them on what a furry is, show them fan boy confetionals: the furry fandom. it might help
-

Sadly, that rarely works. I try to tell my dad that Furry isn't a sexual fetish, but he refuses to listen. Most anti-furries are like that, actually. ...Then again, it's worth a try.
-
If someone decides to drop you as a friend just because of a hobby/lifestyle/religious belief, then i would have a good think if i would still want them as a friend.
I personally hate narrow-minded people who immediately judge you by what you where, what your hobby's are etc. Strying to get them to consider other people's opinions rarely has a positive effect.
And although its always crap to lose friends because of something as "stupid" as a hobby or interest, when family members get involved it can get quite ugly.. T_T
Luckily most of my family are Atheists, and the rest is mildly catholic so no problems there. I Guess if they had problems with my hobbies it would be a shame for them. I Would never change because of the opinion/pressure of my family(only my parents). i would try to keep the "exposure" of the hobbies down to a minimum to avoid drama. ;)

there is a chance, and people are naturally curious....

I have been in those kinds of situations. I still ignored them and didn't let them bother me, and they just quit trying. By retorting, you are likely to feed the fire. As for pride, well... I never valued that as much as I valued peace and a solution to problems.

The thing about arguing with people like that...
Any time they please, they can make you or anyone else with that attitude stop in your day to argue with them about whatever they'd like, and possibly even make you pissed off or depressed. All in the name of not letting someone who's wrong or rude go ahead and say their wrong or rude things.

Me, I would rather stand up for myself than take the abuse. Cause for me, taking an insult and doing nothing about it is like taking a punch to the face and doing nothing about it, not even calling the police or getting help, just sitting in a corner and crying about it.
-
i agree....ya know, i dont understand what the deal is with discrimintation against any sub culture, or religion is. there is no need for it!
"im born free but still they hate, im born me no i cant change"-make it stop by rise agianst
-
society has certain expectations to fulfill and when we don't fulfill it they react very negatively :P
-

Haha, this is what I especially hate about society. It's either you're part of a collective that lets media think for them or you're an outcast. I'd rather be dead than cool, honestly.
-
agreed...i dont think that the world is ready for true freedom...were people arent descriminated agianst at all no matter what....
-
it's gonna happen no matter what. the human psyche is designed to discriminate against out-groups (i.e. furries). it's deeply ingrained in our subconscious :P
-
mmm...i understand.....guess that its just one of those things...my art teacher suprised me though! i thought she would be cool with me wearing my collar...now she is a little standoff ish....
-
well screw her, haters gonna hate :P
-
true..but as soon as she saw it she got a little agrivated? i dont know but she asked and my answer was because i can....now i think im gonna wear it to the game tomarrow the art club has to run consesions maybe start a conversation about it?
-
in my opinion you don't really need to explain anything. you can wear whatever you want and you shouldn't have to answer rude questions
-
Like I have said before. Most People see it as a sexual, school is not the best place to where one. If you are perparing to go to University or Collage and need a recommendation form your teachers, you don't want this to be a part or written in it.
-
Hmm getting ousted by family due to religion... Been there... If u still want part in a church turn to methodistism those people don't give a damn about anything XD. But I've told my grandfather who is atheist but he suffers slight amnesia so he forgot... Nothin much I can help, sorry...
-
Discrimination I think can be tied to evolutionary roots, where, if we saw something we didn't completely understand we were afraid of it, or immediately acted hostile, (such as a new animal or a man you've never seen before). Of course, we no longer are cavemen, these traits still are embedded into our way of thinking, unfortunate. I'd think that a way to get around it is to literally explain the entire situation and show people that being a furry really isn't that bad. Of course, there are those who don't listen, and are just blinded by their own sense of ideologies who refuse to change there belief, hmm... Not entirely sure what can be done about those people.
-
I agree, but one must realize its natural human nature to fear the unknown...
-
Our environment is changing quicker than our evolutionary traits, we no longer need to fear the unknown to as great an extent as we have had to before.
-
agreed, it is getting old. having to deal with these people
-
It always sucks having to choose between friends and something you like. But, the only way to be happy is to do what you like, and make new friends that share your interests. That's how I've always seen it.
In high school I developed sort of a defense. I realized that anyone, and everyone, else's opinion only matters if I care what they think. There is no reason to care at all about what someone thinks, unless you choose to. If someone dislikes something that you like to do, let them know that you aren't going to stop doing something that you enjoy because of them. But, you won't go an about it and rub it in their face. If they don't like you for that, then it's time to go in search of new friends. Find people who, if they don't accept everything about you, don't attempt to push you our of something that you like to do because they don't like it.
I learned very early to be no one other than ME, and to do what I enjoy. Everyone else's thoughts on this don't matter. Eventually, I found friends who accepted everything about me. As quirky and wierd as some of it may be to them, they still care about me.
In essence, bear through the haters, and try not to let what they think get to you. After all, they are one of more than 7 billion people. How much importance is one person in your life if they don't like what you do? You will, in all probability, see them one day, and then never see them again for the rest of your life. It happens a lot.
-
all the rednecks at my school bark or howl at me in school because i wear a collar. 45% of my school is redneck.
-
I wore a collar for a couple of years in high school. Someone tried grabbing it and told me to "Take that [removed] thing off, wierdo". I was on the wrestling team at the time, so naturally i torqued his wrist out of habit. Told him to back the -blank- off. He did, tried getting me in trouble, but i had witnesses who saw it.
Gotta love when someone tries to act tough but loses face because they really aren't.
Whitewolf, do what you want. Try not to let someone you don't care about get you down.
-
but im not strong enough to defend myself and i already got stabbed for my collar once.
-
My brother used to antagonize me a bit about furry fandom but now he's being pretty cool about it. Today is the day he sees my collar XD *shivers nervously*
-
the fandom is contagus! i got my brother into the fandom as well as a few friends!! XD
-
More and more I see evidence of that. It's actually interesting, especially seeing as it seems to me a lot of furs (including myself) started with hating furries at first :O
-
but im not strong enough to defend myself and i already got stabbed for my collar once.
you...got stabbed? Are you serious? D:
hmm... Not entirely sure what can be done about those people.
I have a solution... :P
More and more I see evidence of that. It's actually interesting, especially seeing as it seems to me a lot of furs (including myself) started with hating furries at first :O
It's almost definitely because people like you and I didn't know what furries really were before we joined the fandom xD
I mean, what sensible person wouldn't want to be a part of this awesome community :P
-
I was thinking the same thing about someone getting stabbed. I was like :O, I hope it was just by a pen or something and not a knife =/
Also..

LOL!
-
violance for something that could almost be considered an ethnicity...what are we in the 50's agian? o.O
-
yes i'm serious and no it was a knife.
-
That's horrible :(
-
wow...I'm speechless. I hope they got what was coming to them. The hate in this world sickens me, more so the stupidity.
-
That is simply cold and just... *hiss* the one thing I will not tolerate at all is hate >:(
-
I hope that person who stabbed you was punished for it o.O;
I don't understand those people who are just intolerant. And explanations like they don't like it because of their religion are just stupid
I personally don't understand people who are that much into religion, because i don't believe that big fairytale, but that doesn't mean i hate them for believing it.
For the most part of my normal schooltime, I had a lot of problems with my classmates and sometimes with people for other classes. They hit me, broke and stole things and treated me like an idiot.
But not for liking something they didn't like. I was just weak, had no self-confidence and no real friends. And I wasn't one of these girls who look like as if they are doing things for money.
Everyone told me just to ignore them... Haha.. great idea, great idea... To ignore did never help and never will... The fear was going with me every day
The only thing that rescued my life in that time was pokémon and the internet, where i found some real friends later.
My soul was able to recover during my apprenticeship then, but I still have some problems. I was able to be myself and the people there didn't care if i liked pokémon, dragons etc.
I wish I would have fought back in that bad time. But I started to do it when it was to late and the school was nearly over.
The fight back is mostly the better idea. A much better idea is it to do start a kind of self defence like judo or karate. I heard some storys where people did that and the people who made problems stood away from them just by knowing it.
-
i havent lost any friends because im a furry but i have been kicked off of 2 teams been called a furfag 36 times now and have been excuded from many other thing but the same things happend when i told everyone i wsa a goth :P ...well except the furfag part
-
Something like that wouldn't happen here i think.. oO
Since the most people don't even know furries, they have no fixed opinion. They would just laugh about it or call you weirdo. I'm glad there is no german translation for furfag
Seems like the most people here are more open towards subcultures than in some other countries o.o"
-
...well you are lucky
-
oh don't worry about me.
i got my revenge.
-
ive had a person take pics of my tail and put it on facebook then bagged on it for a few days.
-
Just think of it as an idiot filter. Getting rid of all those too shallow or bigoted to be worthy of friendship. Anyone who makes a comment about Athiests like that is at least one most likely both

I would say to ignore (you've done that already) and move on, same if this ever happens again.
