did you know???
It costs more to buy a new car today in the United States than it cost Christopher Columbus to equip and undertake three voyages to and from the New World.
Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia is the fear of long words.
Mosquitoes are attracted to the color blue twice as much as to any other color.
The first Ford cars had Dodge engines.
The longest place-name still in use is Taumatawhakatan- gihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapikimaungahoronukupokai- whenuakitanatahu, a New Zealand hill.
A donkey will sink in quicksand but a mule won't.
A "jiffy" is an actual unit of time for 1/100th of a second.
In Massachusetts - It is illegal to put tomatoes in clam chowder
Your fingernail has the same ingredients as fly poop (remember this next time you bite your nails X3 )

In the US, a penny costs more than a cent to make, lol.

Scotland is the only developed country in the world where Coca Cola isn't the most popular soft drink.
In 1927, a French policeman was tried for shooting a boy he believed was a werewolf.
It is better for the enviroment to drive an old car than it is to have a new one built.

thanks ill use this when im trying sound smart XD
-
1 grosz (Polish cent) costs about 5 that much to make and the metal alone costs 1,6 that much.
I doubt:
In Massachusetts - It is illegal to put tomatoes in clam chowder
That kind of law is most probably a result of a precedent, which makes the above "fact" invalid without providing complete context.
And this is totally incorrect:
Your fingernail has the same ingredients as fly poop (remember this next time you bite your nails)
Fingernails are made of keratin, while fly poop is pretty much made of regular poop; what they eat, they poop. They don't eat keratin.
It costs more to buy a new car today in the United States than it cost Christopher Columbus to equip and undertake three voyages to and from the New World.
I doubt it, car requires far less work hours. All in all, it depends on the method of estimating the cost.
A "jiffy" is an actual unit of time for 1/100th of a second.
No it isn't. Not only it's not strictly defined, originally it was defined differently and it wasn't even close to 10 ms.
Mosquitoes are attracted to the color blue twice as much as to any other color.
They see in blue and UV, that means they're attracted to anything moving which reflects blue. Obviously, white clothes reflect the most blue light. There's no reason why they should be attracted to blue clothes as they can't see any difference between certain blues and grays. Probably a misconception which grew into a myth (like with spinach containing 10x that much iron than other vegetables - which is also false).
I propose we post "facts" that are facts, not factoids. :)
-
Did you know that starfish have no brain?
-
Again, they do have brain. It is spread out, but still technically a brain :P Sorry for being a pain, but that's a factoid again :P

Waste Heat from Cremating a dead body is approximately 150 Kilowatt-Hours worth... This can power 1,500 Televisions for a whole hour.

In norway 2009 it was alowed to sell sex, but buying it was Illigal... makes sence...
Actually it was a law passed in 2009, so that buyers were still criminals, while it would let immigrants forced into prostitution have a chance without starting out as a criminal. Makes it a tad easier if they wish, want and try to get a normal life like they were promised before they were caught in an endless spiral after being fooled by the ones that brought them here.
Makes perfect sense to me. It's about adapting to modern times, I recommend it.

Yes. As far as I'm concerned, it's experience that counts, not age. If that wasn't enough, barbers were expected to do anything and everything in the '20s.

The origins of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer go back to 1939 when Robert L. May wrote a story based around this character although at the time, it had a secret drink-related message hence the fact that Rudolph's nose is red!

I'm sorry, but the Saturn V was never a ballistic missile. It was designed to go to the moon, built to go to the moon, and flew to the moon (at least the Command module and the Lunar Lander parts of it).
Another good fact about the Saturn V was that it was designed by German Engineers that worked on creating ballistic missiles for the Nazis.
-
Queen Victoria was scared of train travel so she insisted that the train traveled no faster than 40 mph. If that wasn't enough, she also had communication with her driver so when she wanted to move to another carriage or to another part of the carriage, she would remind the driver to stop the train. As for Victoria's funeral train, it was against her will in the sense that it traveled over 40 mph.
When King Edward VII took to the throne, he wanted no communication on his train at all.

The inverted cross was NOT a satanic symbol originally.
According to legend, when St. Peter was captured by the Romans, they were gonna crucify him. But Peter asked to be nailed to an upside-down cross, because he wasn't worthy of dying the same way that Jesus did. So from that moment on, the Catholic Church adopted the inverted cross as a symbol of humility before Christ.
DISCLAIMER: I'm not trying to shove Christianity down anyone's throat. If you believe in something else, that's fine by me. I'm just sharing an interesting story about my parents' religion.

0^0 is an indeterminate form. It's not 0 nor 1.
And I know I'm probably being picky, but If you use a value with 2 significant figures (8.8*10^13 J), you can't get a number with 10 significant figures (170,454,545.5 nukes; it's 170,000,000 nukes). It's just confusing people with lots of insignificant digits.
Dennis Ritchie, they guy who died a week after jobs, was given close to no attention at all, despite actually building foundation for, among many, many others, Mac OS (which is Unix-based). Let's be blunt, he actually brought modern computers into existence rather than just sold them and made animations.

Let's be blunt, he actually brought modern computers into existence rather than just sold them and made animations.
The 0^0 thing, as I said, is debatable.
The insignificant number thing, I decided to use as little scientific notation as possible and to use as many significant figures as possible simply because, I was posting this on facebook, and people can't usually grasp of the size of numbers. I'd think to most people I sent that too via facebook, 170,454,545.5 seemed like a much larger number (or at least easier to grasp it's significance) then 170,000,000. I was also using the "nuke" as an SI, the real energy outputs in joules can be seen on wikipeida. You aren't actually supposed to convert the "nukes" into joules.
Thanks for the input though :D
