Title: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: on October 27, 2011, 01:06:17 AM
man I am hooked on this game. I've been playing it a lot in anticipation of Skyrim on November 11th. This game is just...just...massive o.O

I have to agree, Oblivion is just amazing!

Almost every time I play, however, I usually end up going on a massive killing spree  XD

yeah I don't seem to be able to stop doing that either XD thank the Nine for the Gray Fox cowl (hehe game reference stuck in there XD). it's like a second life, its so accurate o.O

Aw nice! I still need to get that! It sounds like a blast to use!

Have you found the skeleton key? It's pretty awesome too because you can break into pretty much everything with it  XD

I just got it today actually ^_^ it gets me through every door!

That's the beauty of it! With it, no one (or thing) is safe!  XD

Are you playing Oblivion on the PC or a game console?

I play on the 360, but I really wish I could play it on the PC. The mods and cheats for Oblivion add a whole new layer of fun!

i'm playing on ps3 unfortunately, I really wanna try some of the mods and cheats! there's even a mod to turn Kvatch into a fully functioning city!
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: Sigcutio on October 27, 2011, 01:44:05 AM
Yeah I saw that mod too! Looks so cool! I love some of the spell mods you can find, it really adds to the game.

As far as cheats go, no clipping is so great! It basically lets you go through anything and it's really interesting to see how many ways you can break the game that way  XD

"shadow hide you" that's brilliant! XD my character is a thief and assassin through and through, so I used those skills to close the gates of Oblivion! *epic music*
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Same here, though I haven't completed the main quest just yet

Also Kaprika, I have to agree. If I won't get caught, I have a nasty habit of taking very nice things  XD

Though the time I was apprehended for 'stealing' a piece of crumpled up paper was just rediculous

Nice! I'm going to make it a point to get that cowl!

Also what is the highest bounty you've ever had? I think I got somewhere into the 50,000s at one point  XD
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: on October 27, 2011, 02:28:05 AM
i love it when the guards have no idea i was the one who did all that stuff as soon as i took the cowl off XD

I've had a bounty of about 20k before...had to serve a jail sentence on that one, I did
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: Sigcutio on October 27, 2011, 02:33:16 AM
I managed to start an all out brawl in the mages guild at one point. I had the guards after me and so I hid in one of the guilds. When one of the guards came in they all went straight after the guard! It was so great! Now I have people to fight for me!  XD
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: on October 27, 2011, 02:42:45 AM
I had the guards beating each other up when I started hiding behind guards for protection from the other guards XD

Beautiful!

I managed to find an enrage spell that makes almost anyone you touch randomly get aggressive and attack any person in sight

Of course as soon as they attack someone the guards are on them like white on rice. 'Tis a great way to depopulate a city

Oh and this one time I found a night vision ring, like being a kahjit without actually being one

Woah you flew through the dark brotherhood!

You must have just finished the murder mystery! I love that contract!  XD

Made my own save file just for it

Also I found the same ring! Can definitely come in handy. I myself am an argonian, which is intrinsically hilarious for some reason.

one problem I had with this game was the leveling system. I'd prefer it not to level with me and have higher level mobs in kvatch and super high level in cheydinhall and super easy ones in leyawinn, just for example
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

You gotta be careful with that. If you don't level yourself correctly you can actually end up worse off by leveling up because enemies level with you.

Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

If I really want to steal something without being caught I just save, go into sneak mode, and keep trying to steal the thing. If I get caught I just reload and keep trying  XD

Isn't there also that invisibility trick though where you just enchant your stuff with invisibility so that you can't be detected?
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: on October 27, 2011, 05:39:03 PM
I've never heard of that one.
has anybody ever heard of the duplication glitch? all you have to do is buy at least two of the same magic scroll, then click it twice (or however many scrolls there are) and then drop the item you wish to duplicate. if it works then two of the same item will appear! Note: some items do not duplicate
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: Sigcutio on October 27, 2011, 05:45:14 PM

Yes! I've done it on my xbox game! It's a lot easier to grasp than the arrow duplication trick.

It's also a very nice way to get some easy gold  XD
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

The countess in Chorral won't sell me the stupid home just yet, though for some reason. Think she'd be more grateful after saving the town from an oblivion gate  T_T

I think she's just racist against argonians or something

I'm "Pondscum"  XD

I hope the terrain is pretty varied too. At first I was worried the whole northern concept would not appeal to me, but I have to say it's turning out really nice. I will miss the early renaissance feel of Oblivion though.
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

one thing i did not like about the Oblivion terrain was that it was all forests and mountains, I'd like a desert, jungle, or something thrown in
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: Sigcutio on October 27, 2011, 06:07:32 PM

That is true, I usually wind up exploring more of the coast around Anvil more than the central and eastern parts of Cyrodil because it's... sorta different  XD
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

Post by: Sigcutio on October 27, 2011, 06:11:31 PM

I would have to agree as most of the dungeons do wind up sort of looking the same. At least maybe more variety there. Perhaps monsters I can actually deal with would be nice too  XD

Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

@Kanga: I just said, "Without maxing any stats"

Actually, there's an even easier way to do it. In fact, you can even do it at the beginning of the game and get some epic gear early on. One of the things I love to do when I first start the game is go straight to the first oblivion gate after accumulating around 300-400 arrows. Basically, it was easiest since there's only ONE guard there. I would shoot an arrow at him while running away from him backwards. He usually dies within 200 arrows if your archer stat is what you chose to have. Anyways, after he dies, I take all his epic armor, bow, clothes and money.

Now here's how to do the trick (ALWAYS works). Run into the courtyard outside of the jail, and drop EVERYTHING that you stole (including money) and let them arrest you. After being released, you'll be in the courtyard, and guess what? There's all the stuff you stole earlier, and you can pick it all back up without consequence~!

you can make the pirate ship in the Imperial City your free home by killing all the pirates on it, they never come back and you can sleep there and stuff XD

The guards finished off the pirates after I killed their captain. I should consider moving in there  XD
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: on October 27, 2011, 06:57:02 PM
I've already moved in there.

here's a hint: go to the Bloated Float tavern in the Imperial City and rent a room for the night. you might be pleasantly surprised...bwahahaha >:3
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: Shinzuu Katame: Her Tolfy on October 27, 2011, 06:58:14 PM
@Kanga: yea, but with this trick: 1) It's faster 2) You can do it with a non-stealth class.

@Sicutio: I actually found this trick out by mistake. When I first played this game, I had killed a bandit and took his clothes, and I was hunted down when I went into the city. At the time, I had no idea where the hell I was, so I just dumped the stolen goods, thinking they would leave me alone, but they didn't. When I came back out, the stuff I dropped was still there, so I use it on Guards and Royal Personnel to get a ton of money and good weapons/armor ahead of time, making the game pretty easy.

YES!

Finally played the game today~  XD

It was so great to run around in that game again! I went straight for an oblivion gate near Anvil when I started and it felt good to destroy another one of those blasted gates. I have to say, I really dislike the plane of Oblivion for some reason... kinda annoying, but there's one less place to deal with!

While I was going into a tower though, the adoring fan I had brought along with me randomly died when he fell onto a spike elevator...two enemies promptly followed suit. Random moments like that just totally make the game  XD

I have to say, I really dislike the plane of Oblivion for some reason... kinda annoying, but there's one less place to deal with!

While I was going into a tower though, the adoring fan I had brought along with me randomly died when he fell onto a spike elevator...two enemies promptly followed suit. Random moments like that just totally make the game  XD

shoulda kept him alive to seal him in Oblivion XD I really hate the planes of Oblivion, they suuuck

I was aiming to, but he seriously died out of nowhere  XD

Also the planes of Oblivion are largely why I play the game on the easiest setting-- it's just more fun  XD  I can just run around slicing everything to ribbons with my frost dagger!

I haven't used the one I have yet, my frost dagger is too shiny  XD

I seriously need to consider leaving more stuff behind though, the majority of the time I was running through there, I was one point away from being over-encumbered! It's all the darn potions and ingredients I never put away  XD
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: on October 30, 2011, 03:23:26 AM
I always get overencumbered! it's the most annoying feature of Oblivion
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: Sigcutio on October 30, 2011, 03:25:08 AM
That and the really really slow menu system. It gets really bad when you have to wade through so much stuff in your menu just to get what you need  x_x
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I hate the loading system...GOD half the game is loading screens
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: Sigcutio on October 30, 2011, 03:47:01 AM

That too, it's such a shame to have so much loading!

I also hear that a lot of people are irritated by the voice acting because it's the same for many characters, but I actually like that for some reason  XD  The voice actors did a pretty good job too! I can't imagine an imperial guard accosting me in any other voice  XD
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: on October 30, 2011, 03:49:39 AM
the voice actors are messed up sometimes. like sometimes I'll be talking to an old woman and then I'll select "rumors" and the voice actor totally changes
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: Sigcutio on October 30, 2011, 03:58:56 AM
Oh I love that! The character is all serious for one moment, but then they suddenly get all chipper as they discuss other events  XD  It's just as great as the random conversations the characters have with each other!
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: on October 30, 2011, 04:02:56 AM
yeah the conversations are not very linear XD they insult me one second and then praise me as "Champion of Cyrodil" the next X3
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: Sigcutio on October 30, 2011, 04:23:13 AM
Exactly! I'm kinda hoping that they keep the weird conversations in Skyrim, but if not, no big loss

I remember hearing somewhere that Bethesda was intentionally leaving some bugs in the game so there is still hope! I also hope they keep the awkward bug that results from squishing a character in between a door and the wall  XD

I haven't had a huge problem with bugs, but surprisingly the game has crashed on me several times  T_T

It just comes out of nowhere too!

Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: on October 30, 2011, 04:41:26 AM
I've had bugs that make the GAME unfinishable. like one time it went into cutscene mode and the guy was supposed to talk to me but he just stood there with his back turned to me. I woulda been stuck there forever if I hadn't gone to a previous save

Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

The game does a good job of usually preventing them from dying (they only go unconscious if you kill them right?). I can recall using that to turn Martin Septim into a pincushion of arrows. It was probably the most sadistic I've been on that game  XD

First I knocked him out, then I would wait for him to try and get up so I could shoot him with an arrow and knock him out again. I did this until his whole body was just covered in arrows! T'was very entertaining
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I did that to the Countess of Cheydinnal, I snuck into her room and kept knocking her out on her bed XD

With graphic, town and race modding especially I love this game, it is really massive and has hours of playtime, though I wish it had more dialouge choices and effects and outcomes like New Vegas had. One thing I liked more about it than Vegas though was the guards and how I could build a bounty and join an assassin's guild. In Vegas, if I killed or stole from from someone then I'd just get shot at, not arrested :/ though obviously there's no point in being arrested in the wasteland, no jail until you get to California.

Bethesda really stole my heart with their games, though I wish they'd pay more attention to their modders and update their games a bit to be well...more realistic and pretty. The modders are better at their jobs than some of the actual game developers.

*points to sig* I'm counting down till Skyrim! But I doubt I'll be able to buy it right when it comes out :(

Post by: on November 01, 2011, 04:27:32 AM
I'll be first in line seeing as my brother needs my valid ID to purchase an M rated game XD I didn't like how Vegas had an ending though, leave your games open-ended!
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: Sigcutio on November 01, 2011, 05:39:37 AM

@Katie
I'm not going to be able to buy Skyrim anytime soon either.  :/  In fact, I want to avoid buying it for console and just try waiting until I can get a better PC to play it on. I know the mods and cheats will definitely be awesome for Skyrim and I don't want to miss out like I did with Oblivion
@KangaDrake
Yeah, games that let you keep playing even after everything is all said and done is always nice. Of course there is always new game + as well, but that's another story...  XD
Title: Re: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Post by: x on November 01, 2011, 01:13:48 PM
I liked how it had an ending that said what happened to you, but I agree that being able to keep playing and/or having more quests after you finish the main story would be nice.

I was just playing skyrim and I can name a few things that annoy me about it:
1. the map system. I cannot find my way around to save my life and often the roads really suck and I can't climb any mountains >.<
2. the text size. I'm legally blind in my left eye and that makes it difficult to read the already tiny text on my crappy small tv. putting it on my hd tv seemed to improve it though.
3. also the enemies are a bit difficult for me so far (though I've only had like an hour of playtime) I'm getting my furry butt kicked by all enemies >.<
4. quest glitch. so far the game has already refused to give me a quest integral to the Companion questline.

Other than that I like it! ^_^
