Title: My Dark Reflections
Post by: Pagan Skunk on May 29, 2007, 01:27:38 PM
Greets... you can call me Pagan if you like.

I'm...not quite sure what to say. I never was a star at introductions, or at having a social life in general, but I try.
I've been into furs all my life, but didn't get in more direct touch with it until I was 13 or 14 or so. I've been here and there around the community, but never settled anywhere due to various reasons. Hopefully my stay here will be fun and I get to meet some nice creatures.

Any questions can be posted here or inquired over instant messenger if that's your thing.
Take care,
~Pagan Skunk

*nods*

Oh right, I can't make chat-type posts in here...sorry about that.
I really have no idea what else to post, though... I want to talk, but have no idea what about and with whom.
*sighs softly* oh well, I just suck at this...so if you're interested, my messengers are in my profile....that's all.

I see.... I hadn't heard of this messenger thing up 'till now, really.
It looks a lot like Second Life, and I quit using that because it confused me to no end, especially in the user interface and graphics bit, not to mention it rather lags even on my pc, which can handle a lot. Plus, I didn't want to pay real money just to get my character a new pair of jeans...

I see you guys even have a developer section here...I'm guessing IMVU is about the only method of communication you guys use here, seeing all the avatars on here and such? Rather disappointing...I'm more of a traditional MSN/YIM/AIM guy myself. I don't use IRC, ICQ or Second Life-related things. Even if I did download and use IMVU (assuming it's free), I wouldn't know how to customize my character. I lack the skill to work graphically on such things, and I don't wish to bother others to do the work for me...not like I have any friends that can do that. I don't have any friends whatsoever.

So...guess I'm sorry I can't join in the fun. I'll be on my way... *le sighs and leaves*

IMVU is free.
You don't need a fancy computer to run it. I some times run it on a 355?Mhz PC.
The in-game economy is based off of credits. There are easy ways of getting free credits (predits).
There is only one catalog that you get your items from to costomise your avatar or room or even the skin for the program.

We also use IRC. Many of our members do use other instant messenger clients as well.
IMVU is just fun to use because of it's ability let you express yourself.

If it's anything like SecondLife, I wouldn't understand it. Besides, how would I customise my avatar in order to make it look like my fursona? I'm not a graphic artist, and I doubt the program has various furry skins as a default feature. It would surprise me if it did.

Edit: I installed it and nowhere do I find an option to edit one's avatar, so how you people create and change your avatars into furry ones is beyond me... see, I knew I wouldn't understand it. *hangs head*

I don't. Tried it, but it never seemed fun to me. But I guess I could give yours a try...maybe...just out of curiosity if the whole thing changed after my last try. Although...not even allowed to say you're bored because "it's not your job to entertain"? I can understand the rest of the rules, but...that's like saying it's forbidden to say that you have an itchy foot, because "we are NOT going to scratch it for you!"... There's a difference between saying "I'm bored" and "Entertain me, you lot!"...one is a statement, the other is a request/demand. I don't mind following the rules, but if something normal and harmless is being banned.... *shakes head* I don't wish to walk on eggshells whilst I'm talking to people.

Ability to let you express yourself? In what way? Like movements such as a handshake and stuff? Do you have to create and import those too, like in SecondLife?

Ah well, I guess it doesn't matter, now does it? I don't understand IMVU at all and I hardly know anyone (no friends or whatever), and I know even less people that use that darn messenger anyway... and IRC won't be much fun either. Yeah...if I had known this before I joined, I probably wouldn't have tried. Well, carry on. This skunk's taking the highway and getting run over by a heavy four-wheeled vehicle. See you...

To customize your avatar just use the inventory tab on the messenger.
You can change what your avatar wears with that. Its very easy.
If you want more stuff to wear all you need to do is purchase it from the catalog.
http://www.imvu.com/shop

You'll find furry ears, tails, wings, etc.  in the accessories.
The female catalog is more organized and has a larger selection than the male one does.

To perform actions and such all you do is click on an avatar and select what you want to do from the little menu that pops up.

The rule regarding not saying bored was most likely set in place because it's very annoying when you have a bunch of teens
saying it all the time. Plus it does have a negative effect on conversations and stuff.

You can find different stuff people have made for your avatar by doing quick catalog searches. You can then buy anything you want using credits, such as things like this skunk skin:

http://www.imvu.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/105356

IMVU is made by the same people that designed SecondLife, but it's meant to be set up in a much different way. The avatar outfits and stuff are designed much better, and theres a much larger range of interaction between avatars because IMVU's focus is on the actual people instead of the little digital "world."

Don't feel excluded around here... We're all here to help you if you need anything.  :sniffle:
