Title: What to do in this situation?
Post by: Pea on September 30, 2011, 09:37:12 AM
Four hours ago my mother cried on my shoulder. I've let her do this before, but this time was weird. I felt almost no emotion while she was crying. All I could get myself to do was hug her tight, give her gentle rubs on her back, and feel a very slight moment of anger at her boyfriend. Otherwise I was a completely blank shell. I had no clue what to do. She eventually had to go to bed so I told her I loved her, gave her a kiss on the cheek, turned out her bedroom lights and left.

What is a son suppose to do when his mother cries on her shoulder? I don't feel comfortable doing that, but I feel like it's my duty to. She's got no one now except for me and my brother. Me being the oldest makes me the man of the house now. A lot of responsibility for someone as irresponsible as me....

All she needed was probably exactly what you did for her. Just someone to be there.

Looking back, that did seem like the best and only thing to do. Thanks WZ. It's just very confusing to have to hold your own mother while she cries =\

Ive been through the same exact situation, I didnt care too much like you, and I did confort her. But her problem was about something else.. But ya, just be there for her, ok.. same way you would for a mate, only differently lol

try and ask her if she wants to talk about it, it might help her get what ever is causeing it off her mind or maker her feel better.

I've done that. She isn't very open about her problems and I don't press on the matter.
