i was just curious to see if anyone else here on the forum has any interest in modern/contemporary art?
an artist i've been very very interested in over the past few months is kenneth noland, a member of the post-painterly abstractionists.

this is perhaps his most famous painting, and in my eyes i think it might be the most beautiful. i almost can't explain why. i strikes up an almost perfect balance between borderline non-abstraction, and sheer beauty.
what do other viewers think? i'm even interested if you hate it which i guess a few people probably will

Well, there's nothing wrong with it, it's very visually pleasing. It's nothing I'd be in love with but it's just okay.
I enjoy modern art like image editing, basic texts, colors, shapes, spray paint, stuff like that. I also enjoy modern art that features figures in simple strokes, such as this: http://www.nabyn.com/art/distance-9719 (http://www.nabyn.com/art/distance-9719)
The only thing I'm not real into is modern sculptures. Just personal taste.

I've never really understood modern art, care to explain what is so great about this, or am I just a hopeless cause who will never understand these things. :?

eh....i dont like modern art...i like its SCULPTURES but the paint is just.....*shakes head*
art seems to have taken a...painfuly simple turn from what it used to be

modern art is a very strange topic to explain... my first thought was that when experiencing modern art and looking at paintings, one should focus on the emotions which are brought from the paper. for example;

jackson pollock is probably the most well known abstract painter. this picture i've been to see several times and it utterly captivates me everytime. i can almost hear and feel rhythms... tbh, this painting is almost non-abstract to me, as i see this as a scene of a native tribal dance.
however, the problem with that explanation is... the keneth noland picture i showed in my first post is conceptualised to rebel against this very notion. his paintings are supposed to be completely non-emotional. but i don't care... i find his paintings perhaps even more emotional, because they appeal to my set of dominant emotions.
who knows? all this is very very very subjective. it does seem very difficult to understand but once you do, you start thinking 'how on earth did i ever not understand this?'
