Title: Identify this Creature, please.
Post by: Count of Cutesy on August 12, 2011, 02:30:38 AM
Every day I go for a walk and I pass by this one spot where I see these weird creatures that keep me scratching my head. I'm not sure whether they're animals or plants or even aliens for all I know, but anyway, this is what I saw.

1: They are shaped like a *.
2: They have a tail.
3: They seem to have the ability to float, yet they don't seem to have wings.
4: They move in erratic patterns.
5: On every point except the tail, they have a light colored area at the tip and in the middle of each point.

If anyone could tell me what these creatures are, I would be greatly appreciative.

Here's a drawing I did of it. I'll try to get a photo of it, soon.

(Also, I didn't know where to put this. I asked this at another forum, and the topic ended up getting locked with a mod saying "use the question stickies." As if my question will ever get answered there.)

Looks like dandelion seeds or something similar.

I almost want to say some type of plant, but it moves in such erratic patterns.

The only idea I've got in my head is anemone. And... well, that's probably highly incorrect. :p

Good try, but that has a LOT more limbs than what I saw, as well as shorter limbs as well.

Yeah, it catches the wind in odd ways.

They can vary.

Yeah but by looking at that image, I don't think that's what I saw.

Are you perhaps thinking of a cnidarian called a hydra?

i saw the image, looks like a seed of some sort. or it could be a spider that just came out of its egg, they tend to use a bit of there spider slik webs to carry them with the wind.

I found out what they were. They're called Phantom Crane Flies. If anyone would like to lock this now, they can.
