Title: the worlds oldest religion?

So um do we have any info on what could be the worlds oldest religion, like any hard concrete facts? Like for instance the tocharians were a race of people who spread buddhism to china from india and such. when the more populare story is a monk by the name of bodhidharama brought it over. but the tocharians are one such legend possibly based in fact.

Supposedly the first cultures and religions of the world all started in Africa, at least that's what Art History class taught me. There was a specific place too that recent archaeology has suggested was the pinnacle of human development.

I agree with White, the oldest would be some unwritten african religion-ish culture..

The oldest known/written religion I believe to be Hinduism.

I'm quite sure that the oldest religion could be considered as Animism, because of the worship of animal and nature spirits.
As for the first written one, I believe that it was Buddhism.

I have to agree, you can find animal and nature worship in history almost everywhere, animal based clans or titles would be one example
So that's just my opinion xD

The oldest surviving religion is Egyptian Paganism. Although it is dieing. Quite rapidly, may I add.

The oldest religion that is written would be hindoisem, but there are other religions that are alot older most if not all of the first religion where polytheism  ( not sure if its spell right, but it means a religion that teaches there is more then one God) I would say the oldest religion would be when man first appeared on earth.

Buddhism came after Hinduism actually. Siddhartha Guatama (Buddha) was actually part of the Hindu religion before he created Buddhism. As far as the most ancient WRITTEN religion. The Sumerians polytheistic religion is the most ancient. Seeing as they were the people who created written language itself it would only make sense. As far as the oldest religion in general. There is no real way to know for sure. But I would say its a very save bet to say that animism, would be the oldest in general.  :P :3 I took a world religion and ancient civilizations class last year.

I'm not to sure but I would say the oldest organized religion would probably be Shinto.
