Do NOT drink the tap water (unless it's specified that it's been purified, or it's bottled water). That's one of the tips I hear the most.
These two links should help you some:

(If you SCUBA dive, Cozumel is a great dive site I hear.)
Staying out of dark alleyways is a good tip I hear.

Be smart, avoid the water, if your hotel is all-inclusive then be sure you don't stray away unless you go to noted "safe" spots
-
Thanks for the tips. Where staying in Cannon, the hotel is all inclusive, as for scuba diving ill probaly be doing that but i will most likely stay close to any coral refs. I know we wont be drinking the tap water even if the hotel perfuise it because my mom doesn't believe it, so we will be drinking bottled water.

Oh hey! I just got back from Mexico! Spent a week there.
Dont breath in dust (it carries hep) dont drink water unless you need a cleansing and try not to walk around alone after dark. Oh! And dont go to the back of the shops alone.
But really, its not THAT dangerous unless you go looking for it.
I mean, I was fine and I didnt stay in some fancy hotel -_- Quite the oposite in fact. For security we had a guard goat though! He was awesome xD
-
so conman sencen. the dust has hepatitis ? i dont need to worry about that then i vaccinated for A and B. a guard goat?
-
In the less urbanized area's, yes.
And yea. Its not too dangerous. The place we were in was one large room, which the door did not lock, mind you, with a porchlight and a goat next to the door. We also could not flush toilet paper.
And nobody died. The "Danger" of Mexico is on the border and even then it is widely exaggerated.
-
ok were staying in a resort.
-
Women are in more danger than men there. Since you're staying at a resort you all should be fine though.
As said before, just don't wear expensive stuff and keep an eye on your wallet. You're supposed to put your wallet/money in your front pockets whenever traveling out of the country anyway (at least that's what I was told when I went on my Europe trip).
-
yep i dont think where going to be going through villages. my mom speaks Spanish, so if any problems arise she can translate, as for jewlerie i have a custom chain link collar, that's about it. money will be hidden in a money pouch under my clothes
-
lol I was in mexico for like 1 hour on my Oasis of the Seas cruise trip. They will bother you to buy their stuff. o.O
-
I've been to Mexico twice now...it's really not that "unsafe." As everyone else has said, don't drink the tapwater and don't snort lines of dirt.
Aside from that you'll be fine as long as you're not going to be dumb. People are nice enough, had no trouble with any women that were on the trip with us and yeah...I'm not really a fan of Mexico, as it's just a bit too touristy for me but still we had no problems either time we went. Which city are you going to?
-
iam going to cancan
-
Oh, cool. What resort? I just came back from there last month, it was a great time. <3
-
not sure, ill post when i find out. my friend told me that fruit juice may not be safe to drink because it could contain ring wroms from how they grow it.
-
That's only if you buy it from street vendors.
-
so all the food and drink at the resort should be safe then. and if i dont show off money or stuff i should be safe.
