Upon reading other threads around the forum, I have seen that people have different opinions about how important money is and how it affects people. I have thus made a new thread because I'm curious.
The poll question is: How much do you value money (on a personal level)?
I strongly encourage you to post your opinion below. In fact, I'm close to saying that by voting you agree to post why you voted what you did. As you can see, the answers all make it easy to elaborate. Please don't just inform what you voted, but why. What made you make up your mind? Also, read other posts as well if you want more opinions before voting.
However, I won't take it that far. You're allowed to change your vote at any time, of course, because opinions change with new insight.
Things to consider:
- The hierarchy of needs (click (http://www.bkone.co.in/images/8stageModel.jpg))
- Life goals
- Personal gain/happiness
- The community around you
- An unpredictable future
- Social status
- Health
Et cetera...

Hrmm... this is a tricky one.
One of my greatest aspirations, if not my single greatest aspiration, is to attain a success with my writing career on the level of Twilight or Harry Potter. But for me, the money itself isn't of vital importance. What is of vital importance to me is the freedom that money affords me. The freedom to not worry about healthcare costs or other emergency type situations. The freedom to take care of the people I love and care about, to fulfill my various other dreams and goals.
It's hard for me to describe, but I guess the simplest way to put it is that I don't value money, I value the things that money lets me do. I recognize its importance in today's day and age and I respect it, but I wouldn't die for it, and I wouldn't kill for it.
So for me, at the end of the day, I voted "It Depends". Primarily on what mood I'm in. :P

To me, money is next to meaningless. All you need is enough to get by, and the rest of your happiness is determined by your output on life, and your interaction with others. If your unhappy, its your own fault and not the fault of not having money. Of course you can feel free to disagree with me.

To me, money is basically thee most important thing to have in a world where everything completely depends upon how much you have, might as well make sure you have lots of it that way it's not too hard to survive. I want to live comfortably and not live in some big city in an apartment working hours and hours in physical labor to pay the next rent due date, I'd rather be driving a casual car to work and going there 5 days a week for about 8 or 9 hours, then coming home and not worrying about paying the next bill because the paychecks are large enough to afford everything.

I say it depends. On one side, I know it's vital to buy things you need and other things vital for your survival. Money is what makes you have a home, some food, some clothes, some activities... Money can help acheive a certin happiness and I can't deny that. Money is essential for everyone's survival and without it, we're kind of doomed as we can't afford nothing.
But on the other hand, personnally, I see cash as a NEED... For me, money will only bring me material needs and I need materials to make my life better. It will never bring me the equal happiness of immaterial needs like friendship, love, family and all those little things we have to cherish in life...
So on the end, I know money is NECESSARY, but it soes not mean that it can bring true happiness... And I kind of agree with Gelidus too...

At the moment, money is just something to be stockpiled, a tool for later use, I don't value it personally at all
Whether I wind up living richly, poorly, or somewhere in between doesn't matter one way or another to me, I'll find a way to get by, and be happy doing it
And if I can't find to way to get by, I'll find someone who can, and learn from them
And if all else fails? Well, I've got legs, and there's a whole continent to explore

its vital, iam unemployed and iam living with my parents ( iam only 19) but seeing from what little money i get from odd jobs... money if vital, every thing costs money and nothing is free, if you want something you have to pay for it. sure you can get buy on little but you wont be able to do much at all.

I believe money is important for a lot of things, especially necessities like food and all that, however I think it's definitely nice to have a bit up your sleeve to be able to buy nice things for yourself and others. Although it is nice to have that extra amount of money at times, I don't think your life should be revolved around it. You don't have to solely use your money to please you and make you happy, because you can't put a price on happiness and other characteristics along those lines.

I don't really care about being "wealthy", but rather that I have enough money to live comfortably.
Since the world unfortunately won't be going back to the barter system (which seems like it would be nice), money is necessary for survival. So yes, I value "wealth" but I don't believe that it's absolutely vital to be "wealthy".
