I recently had to replace my internet modem. I switched up from a 1.5 m/s modem to a 12 m/s modem. But now whenever I try to connect to the internet, the high speed internet works for about a minute then completely freezes and shuts down. The modem box says that it's still connected and working perfectly but no web pages load and instead I get an error message...what's going on here?
-
What's the error message say?

What's the error message say?
it just says "not connected to the internet"
-
Is all cables properly connected?
-
I checked, my dad's messing with it right now, and if HE's messing with it then my computer room is prolly gonna go up in flames XD
I'm sure all the cables were connected
-
I suggest you calling your ISP's tech support if your dad can't get it working then, it sounds like the new modem might not be configured for your ISP and I don't think I could be too helpful if that'd be the case
-
it seems to always get better later in the day. if i try to log on in the middle of the day then I experience this problem way more often
-
If it does the same for more than one computer then I would go with Timmy's advice on calling your ISP.
-
ok suddenly my modem randomly changed name and WEP password...my brother said he didn't do it but I'm not sure what happened
-
Are you sure you're not using your neighbour's or anything? xD
Maybe try logging into your modem's settings to see if it shows any problems, and so you can set the password and SSID (name). Try it if you can connect at all. You'll need the modem's IP to type into your browser's address bar, some common ones include 127.0.0.1, 10.0.0.138, 192.168.0.1 or 172.16.0.0. If none of them work try contacting your ISP. If you need a username and password that you don't know, try admin as the username and something simple as the password like '1234' or 'admin'. If you can connect to any of those IPs then you know it's not a computer -> modem problem, it's a modem -> internet problem.
Also, you can try an ethernet cable (the yellow one) just to see if it works. If that works it means your modem is most likely configured correctly.
Have you contacted your ISP at all?

I'm pretty sure I'm not using a neighbours network because I know exactly what all the networks are named around here and this is totally new. I checked my IPconfig and concluded yes this is my wifi network.
I have yet to contact my ISP....busy n' all

Okay, if you can get into your IP configuration then that's a good start. Once you have time then the best option would be to contact your ISP. :3

Time to call and yell at them :P
