Title: Connection test
Post by: NJMike on June 19, 2011, 09:03:43 PM
Go to http://www.speedtest.net and run the test by clicking on the yellow circle on the map. After it's done, go to "Share Result" and copy the link, then paste it here.

Also post if you're using a wireless connection or if you're connected straight to the router or whatever your set up is.

I am using a D-Link Xtreme Wireless-N PCI desktop adapter, and here is my connection result:

Best result the site ever gave me:

Yeah my download is too -- should be 10-14 Mbps. My upload is fine, though. Ping could be better.

wouldn't that be an indication that it's not accurate?

Then you give me a link to an accurate speed test site. My friend showed me to this site originally. I always thought it was accurate myself, though.

Your internet speed doesn't always remain the same. It may vary a little depending on a few factors, such as simple things like how far away from the gateway/router you are, what you're downloading and its size and if its hogging your internet or not, etc etc.

Bigpond/Telstra, not the best ISP out there but I get like no downtime unlike a lot of people I know with other providers.

If I'm running Skype, Second Life, iTunes, or anything else, will it be affected? I ran the test again a few minutes ago but I just have Skype up. Here is what I got:

I just don't get it. I used to be getting 10-14 Mbps download and less than 20 Ping when I was running this test a few weeks ago, and I haven't changed the location of my computer or my network adapter or anything. Why am I no longer getting 10-14 Mbps?

I don't think it should be affected that much, though I have seen a range in my internet speeds over the three years of having it go from about 2 mbps to 14.

I'm gonna take the guess whatever it is, it's beyond my knowledge :P

Taken from my desktop (gigabit lan) through a Zyxell 1050 Security Gateway and Ubee fiber broadband modem.

Downloading goes up to about 15MegaByte per second.
Uploading at a slower 1MegaByte per second

Allmost one gigabyte a minute, I love broadband  :3
