Title: Improvment.... Or lack of
Post by: Alexei on June 11, 2011, 10:02:33 PM
To be blunt, I need some help in improving my drawing ability.

I've been reluctant to post any drawings that I made recently to my gallery on FA because they suck...... Really bad.
I didn't think it was possible but I've actually gotten worse, are there any tips on good practice routines/ exercises, cause it kind of feels as if what I'm doing right now isn't enough.
Also, I need to find out how to make the most of drawing tutorials in books or online since I'm terrible when trying to learn out of a book, I'm much better with a live person talking to me.

Any help is appreciated.

It's a bit silly coming from me because I don't have a drawing talent myself, but from what I've seen, it's only a matter of practice. A good example is Terra, just look at her most recent art compared to what she drew only months back. She's doing great.

When it comes to tutorials and books, I'd copy them while reading. Doodle along with the examples and "feel" what the text says through your pencil.

And you could always start a drawing experiment where you draw one thing each day for a week or month of something.

Like this one that I tried but I grew tired of it because I'm lazy and I only got around to doing 1-6.

Practice, Practice, Practice... And hopefully it gets better. That's what I titled my art thread. If you look I wasn't even close to good. But if you practice, It WILL get better. Even if you post the sucky drawings we'll be here to help you out  :)

I think your art is great, no need to sell yourself short. :)
But that was part of the reason I wanted to start this thread was because I saw others improving so rapidly, kinda made me wonder if I was doing something wrong.

I'll definitly try that strategy when I practice tonight.

As for the last part.....
