Title: Your top 5 of band/artists
Post by: Scar WhiteDream on June 01, 2011, 07:23:12 AM
Hmmmmm... I've checked and I haven't seen a topic on that. I know that their was actually a Top 5 song (which I don't want to take the chance to answer as the last post is older than 2 weeks)... But the concept is the same:

- Name your top 5 artist/band and the reason why you chose them

So here is mine ^-^ :

5 - Steve Vai

reason : He is an incradeble guitarist. His techniques are awesome and I always had a weak spot for anything progressive... And this guy clearly shows how music is played.

Best songs to check out : Tender Surender, Bad Horsie, Now we run

4- Metallica

reason: This band is one of the bands I admire for their courage of going on even with Cliff's death... They had a lot of things but always managed to pull through and give us one of the major and best thrash metal on earth.

Best song to check out : Master of Puppets, ride The Lightning, Blackened, All Nightmare Long, Of Wolf and Man

3 - Megadeth

reason: I have to say... This band managed to distrone Metallica... I find something more unique, more powerful in Mustain's music. Even if they did took some risks in their music, I find that they always stayed true to their Thrash Metal roots, ehich was something Metallica seemed to have forgotten after ... And Justice For All. Plus, Mustin's solos are way more faster and way more headbagning than Hammett's but that's my opinion... I still listen to both bands a lot.

Best songs to check out: Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, This Day We Fight!, Sweating Bullets, Five Magics, 1,320, Hangar 18, Kick The Chair

2- Dream Theater

reason: remember I said having a weakness for progressive music? Well this band clearly redefines it... From A to Z. They even went over the masters of the progressive... Pink Floyd, rush and Yes!... Their basis are these influences but brought in a such powerfull way... Their music... is just awesome... The essence of Progressive metal... is clearly this band.

Best songs to check: A Nightmare To remember, A rite Of Passage, As I am, Forsaken, Another Day, Pull Me Under, Panic attack

1- Iron Maiden

reason: This band... Is my major life influence. Their music is just powerfull, entertaining and the subjects of their songs are awesome. Bruce Dickinson has this voice that no signer can have other than him. Their music drives me off and the fact that they have over 35 years of musical life and still is active prooves that metal will never die... They were one of the bands that stay true to their original roots, which is heavy metal (being part of the NWOBHM). And my major influent guitarist is no more than Dave Murray... He has this blues touch brought in a metal way that sounds so awesome... Plus, he is always calm and in his own world in every show he makes... Iron Maiden changed my life...

Best songs to check out: Fear Of the Dark, run to the hills, Powerslave, Aces High, Wasted Years, The Trooper, The Number Of The Beast, Brave New Word, Blood Brothers, Dance Of Death, No More Lies, When The Wild Wind Blows and many many more.

Up to you guys ^-^

Hmm...seems like an interesting topic...The Asterisks* mean my favorite song from the band

Number 5: Three Days Grace (Possible replacements for #5: All That Remains, Slipknot, Skillet, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle...the list goes on...)

WAY too mainstream for my preference. But its had to find anything that ISN'T. Still, a solid band with a great singer and some good themes in their songs. Sometimes great guitar riffs and good singing are all you need to make a song great.

Song to check out: Riot, Pain, I Hate Everything About You, Animal I Have Become*, Never Too Late

Number 4: Bullet for my Valentine

So much anger and frustration is put in their songs and the're very easy to relate to. There becoming too main-stream for my taste though. I preferred The Poison album over there newer stuff. They are very hardcore and their songs seem full of more emotion then other bands. A solid band worthy of the number 4 spot.

Songs to check out: Hand of Blood, The Poison, All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me), Your Betrayal*, Four Words to Choke Upon, Waking the Demon

Number 3: Linkin Park

More specifically the older Linkin Park. Mostly stuff from Minutes to Midnight and earlier. Chester is just so talented as a singer/screaming that you can't ignore him. Also their songs do a wonderful job of bringing in emotion. Only major problem I have with them is that their songs are very short, so you get over them quickly. I like longer songs which brings me to my number 1/2...

Song to check out: Bleed it Out, Breaking the Habit*, Given Up, In The End, Papercut, Numb, Somewhere I Belong, Crawling, In Pieces

Number 1/2: Metallica, Tool

This is a huge tie. Both bands are EXTREMELY talented. I could EASILY get lost in both of these bands songs. Maynards singing is off the charts, but Hammett guitars skill are unbelievable. I'd like to think one of them is more impressive then the other, but I just can't say that. The only thing that might put me in Tools favor is the fact that ALL of Metallica's stuff isn't great. Load and Reload were a complete bust (IMO). However, they made it up by showing they can do so many different styles of music. The decision of this one is just too hard for me to make especially with their styles so different, so I had to leave it as 1/2...

Songs to check (Metallica): Orion, To Live is to Die, Call of Cthulu*, One, Master of Puppets, Sanitarium, Cyanide, Suicide and Redemption

Songs to check (Tool): Vicarious*, H., Right in Two, Wings for Marie (1+2), Forty Six and Two, Lateralus, Ticks and Leeches (hell, check out all their songs)

Well, you know... I have to agree with you on Load and reload... Not their best musical move... That's a bit why I said Megadeth distroned Metallica... Metallica went out of their roots while Megadeth lways keep that Thrash influence, even in the "risk" album...

Now, if you do love long music, you have to check out Dream Theater... You will love them... Epic 12 to 42 minutes songs they have =D Check that out... Progressive is, in my opinion, a mojor key of diversity :)

#5
name: KoRn
Reason: Their songs just get me so pumped and the feeling that is felt through t heir music so strong, definitely felt.
Songs: Trash, liar, shoots and latters, coming undone

#4
Name: Ice cube
Reason: The best rapper of all time (IMO), his lyrics are actually very articulated and intelligent, not to mention they are so controversy and powerful. Anyone with any rap influence has to thank Ice cube to making rap what it is, with out Ice cube, N.W.A., Dr.Dre, 2PAC, and Biggy wouldn't of ever of gotten to where they were.
Songs: Today was a good day, Gangster rap made me do it, hood mentality

#3
Name: SOAD (system of a down) (and all soul nonsense)
Reason: Their song can easily be related to, they question society which I love, and
sometimes their songs are so freaking bad they just can't help but blow your ear drums out.
Songs: ATWA, sugar, chop suey, Lonely day

#2
Name: MM (Marilyn manson)
Reason: This is the man I got to when I'm hurting, when I'm angry, when I'm alone. His songs connect to every emotion, every fiber I am. I have yet to find a feeling he can't help me satisfy in my time of need. I can say that no matter what any one says, regardless of what antics he pulls (aka boob job), I can't but see him for an intellectual human being.
Songs: (just go get his "last we forget album") The reflecting god, the nobodies, Tourniquet, and Holloween :p

#1
Name: Msi (mindless self indulgence)
Reason: They = amazing. They don't care what other people think, they say what they want, they just break boundaries, no one else is like them.
Songs: Make me c__ (demo), Fa___, played, shut me up, bull s___, bring the pain, and Never wanted to dance (part remix)

See thats the reason I like Metallica over Megadeth. They have the ability to be thrash, and they have the ability to do slower stuff as well. Personally I don't understand why people prefer Mustain's guitar skills over Hammet's. Hammet just has this ability to put so much more emotion into the guitar. Mustain just never seemed to accomplish that for me. This is probly why I don't like the Kill em' All album all too much. Also, i can't stand Megadeths singer. He makes me want to pull my ear drums out. Obviously that just a personal preference :P IMO Metallica wins hands down.

I'll definitely have to check out Dream Theater. I've never heard of them until now.

KoRn: All time favorite band. I know almost every song of theirs by heart. I consider Jonathan Davis to be the greatest vocalist alive! And the bass guitar is amazing.

Tech N9ne: Favorite artist of all time. Also heard and know just about every song of his. He's got a unique style, only plays underground and not mainstream, and he lives in the same town I do! :D

Nile: Favorite death metal band of all time. Actually it's the only band I listen to in that genre. I like how technical they are and how unfocused on blood, gore and hatred to religion they are.

Lapfox: Not sure what to call them but they make me feel like a true scaly!  ^_^

Can't think of anything else off the top of muh head so.... G'bye! :D

My favourite bands and such change most of the time, but here are the 5 I like most at the moment.

Foster the People, because their music sounds good and they're different.

September, because she's Swedish and makes good music also.

My Chemical Romance, because I love a lot of their lyrics. I think they come up with some genius words. I don't listen to the often anymore, though.

Crystal Castles, they also sound quite good and like Foster the People, are a nice change to the mainstream music I've weened myself off of in the past year or so.

Paramore, idk they just sound good as well. :B

5. Wolves In The Throne Room

- One of my furry friends got me into this band. They're ambient black metal and sound pretty good to me. Also for some reason the blast beats on the drums in most of their songs is what got me hooked and a lot of their songs are 10+ minutes.

Songs: I Will Lay Down My Bones Among The Rocks and Roots, Cleansing, Wanderer Through The Sea of Fog, Crystal Ammunition, Ex Cathedra, Behold The Vastness and Sorrow, Ahrimanic Trance.

4. Bring Me The Horizon.

- I was going to my first concert ever March 11th, 2011, and this was one of the bands that was going to play there. I have never heard their music before so I wanted to acquaint myself with them via listening to their songs on YouTube. I liked what I heard, continued listening, and started to really like them. They were pretty good in concert as well.

Songs: Crucify Me, It Never Ends, Chelsea Smile, Diamonds Aren't Forever, The Comedown, Visions, Black & Blue, Liquor & Love Lost,  Pray For Plagues.

3. The Black Dahlia Murder.

- It's funny I actually discovered this band from seeing a kid's shirt in school of the band. I decided to check them out when I got home, and, much like the above band, I liked what I heard, continued listening and got myself hooked.

Songs: That Which Erodes The Most Tender of Things, I Will Return, Built for Sin, Statutory Ape.

2. Rotting Christ.

- These guys just make some amazing music. I like their gothic and dark sound on a lot of their songs, although it's a shame their newest Album, Aealo, has strayed away from that sound.

Songs: Among Two Storms, Art of Sin, If It Ends Tomorrow, You Are I, Fateless, You My Cross, Athanati Este, Keravnos Kivernitos, Enuma Elish, Victoriatus, Transform All Suffering Into Plagues, Nemecic, Helios Hyperion, Under The Name of Legion, Demonon Vrosis, dub-sag-ta-ke, Snowing Still, The First Field of the Battle, Non Serviam, Morality of a Dark Age.

1. Meshuggah.

- This is one of the most technical and unique bands I've heard as of yet. Usually I'm not a big fan of technical metal as its complex time signatures and instrument-playing confuse me and lose my interest, but not these guys; I just like how they sound using this.

Songs: Shed, Autonomy Lost/Imprint of the Un-Saved/Disenchantment, The Paradoxial Spiral/Re-Inanimate/Entrapment, Personae Non Gratae/Dehumanization/Sum, Concatenation, Elastic, The Mouth Licking What You've Bled, New Millennium Cyanide Christ, Sublevels, Closed Eye Visuals, Nebulous (re-mastered), Perpetual Black Second, Rational Gaze (re-mastered), Spasm (re-mastered), Stengah, Straws Pulled At Random (re-mastered).

2. Papa Roach
- Influenced by generic classic rock and a voice which one will never forget. Sort of simple music, I agree, but the feel of his voice and the way it mixes with the riffs is just plain awesome in my ears. Although I must admit, the truly amazing voice of the vocalist does carry the band quite a bit.

Songs: "...To Be Loved", "My Heart Is a Fist", "Last Resort", "Take Me" and "Time Is Running Out"

1. Bullet For My Valentine
- I Must admit, I rarely listen to this band anymore, but I have always liked them from the first time I heard them (saw their video to "Hand of Blood" on MTV in 2005). Welsh metalcore band with highly emotional lyrics in their earlier days, although slightly downtuned with their latest album. Melodic all the way, with both decent clean and screamed vocals and a sound I just downright love.

Songs: "Tears Don't Fall", "Pretty On The Outside", "Waking The Demon", "Four Words (To Choke Upon)" and "Dignity"

Other songs I can relate to because of their lyrics: "Room 409"

Those bands are good ^-^ you know... I saw the videoclip of "... To be loved" and it took me 3 years to find it because I had forgot the name of the song ><

I'll have to go youtube Wolves In The Throne room... It sounds like a good band =D . As for BMTH, I like some of their songs... Not a big fan of metalcore, but I enjoy some of their songs ^-^ . And I'll check Meshuggah... Seems like a good band too :) ... But if you like complex music and time signature, you have to go youtube Dream Theater... 5. Symphony X
These guys have some seriously hardcore stuff with some extremely articulate wording and intricate songs; I will admit I'm relatively new to them, but I love their Paradise Lost and Iconoclast Albums. They are a symphonic Power Metal Band, and by far they hold a steady fifth spot; despite Muse knocking on the doorstep of said position.

4. Blind Guardian
Also a band I only recently got into. These guys are a Progressive/Power Metal band from Germany, and they specialize in Fantasy themed songs. (See Fly and Straight Through the Mirror.) They hold a firm place in fourth because of their hardcore riffs and very beautiful choir-like sounds. The songs all paint a vivid picture, seeing as very few of them are less than five minutes, so plenty of time is there to tell a tale.

3. Renard Queenston
Possibly one of the most creative and unique electronic artists to date. The sheer mass of songs he's made is awe inspiring, and so many are so good. Jackal Queenston, Renard, and FIAB are my mainstay favorite sub-artists he has for their particular styles. The fact that he tries his hand at Electronic Metal is pretty badass too.

2. System of a Down
Two words: Holy s***. These guys are insane in all the RIGHT ways. They slap a big poster towards mainstream media and defile it in an awesome, and sometimes hilarious, manner. These guys are no-holds-barred, and they are creative in their madness (takes a while to realize).

1. Disturbed
The first Metal band I ever owned an album from. The Sickness, despite me only being a little kid at the time, was my all time favorite album; and this still holds true. Their electronic-like sounds kept it feeling fresh with each song, especially in The Game and Meaning of Life. No less, their lyrics do have a lot of meaning, such as the ones in I'm Alive from Ten Thousand Fists.

Blind Guardian is an awesome band ^-^ I discovered them with their song called "Valhalla" and soon discovered "The Bard's song" which is making me float every time.

And what to say about Disturbed? I just simply love them too <3 I peronnaly enjoy their "Indestructable" album and of course, the "Ten Thousand fists" one too :)

They sure are. You should check out Ahrimanic Trance, my current favorite song from them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0YVLa_NUbDY

I see. Metalcore is alright, but it's more towards the end of my favorite genres.

Well I do have "Through The Dark Eternal Night" by them on my iPod. I listen to more technical death metal than normal technical/progressive metal, though.

Post by: WhiteTiger89 on June 13, 2011, 02:50:38 AM
I'm gonna be posting mine from most to least, I'm having trouble thinking of the list any other way. :P

1. Disturbed
No other band has gotten underneath my skin quite like Disturbed has. The passion and energy in their songs is almost perfectly in tune with my own. I adore how they've managed to mix melody and aggression into their music and how there is a real soul and meaning to the lyrics, not just mindless yelling. Their music is wonderfully cathartic for me.

Favorite Songs: The Animal, Stricken, Down With the Sickness, Inside the Fire, Indestructible, Never Again, Remnants/Asylum (one song broken into two tracks), and The Infection

2. Michael Jackson
I was raised on his music, and for much of my childhood, Michael was the physical embodiment of cool. So much of his material has influenced me. My love of horror movies came from Thriller, my love of sleek cars came from his transformation into one during Moonwalker, and even the way I move and carry myself came from emulating and memorizing his dance moves.

Favorite Songs: They Don't Care About Us, Thriller, Smooth Criminal, Billie Jean, Beat It, Not Alone, Childhood, Scream.

3. Within Temptation
I'll admit, I'm a sucker for things of an epic nature, and this symphonic rock band delivers that in spades. Between the guitar being played against more orchestral type instruments and Sharon den Adel's haunting and ethereal vocals, I get chills listening to many of their songs. For me, they are the calming water to the exciting fire of Disturbed and I love them for it.

Favorite Songs: The Howling, Stand My Ground, Faster, Jillian (I'd Give My Heart), and Forsaken.

4. Linkin Park (pre- A Thousand Suns)
Linkin Park was the first band that made me care about music. Their albums Hybrid Theory and Meteora not only contained a number of high energy songs that I could understand and relate to, but many of their lyrics gave me the basic ideas for some of the books I've written. Sadly, they are no longer the band they once were. If it hadn't been for A Thousand Suns, they might have beaten out Within Temptation for the #3 slot.

5. Dead By Sunrise
Chester Bennington's voice automatically shot this band up the list, as I've always prefered his voice to Mike Shinoda's on Linkin Park's albums. The music itself is a little slower and lighter than I prefer at times, but alternately, some of their songs are wonderfully melodic and haunting. I do hope they release a second album.

Favorite Songs: Too Late, Walking in Circles, Let Down, Morning After.

Post by: Zaspher on June 13, 2011, 03:40:29 AM
Here are Zasphy's top five at the moment although it pretty much changes daily ^_^ . I added song examples in case anyones wants to listen.

1. Endless Sporadic

A eloquent jazz metal band that serves as a inspiration for most of my my bands music. The mood In a single song can change extremely from thrash to folk to gypsy jazz in a matter of seconds.

Song Example: Impulse, Voyage of Tremoli

2. Moe.

A jam band formed from talented musicians from across the United States. Extremely progressive much like Dream Theatre, Rush and Ratdog except in my opinion ten times better. Styles change every so often making it very enjoyable. Although sometimes the vocals can be repetitive. I saw them in concert just a few days ago. I'm also friends with the bassist. There music is very well put together and they seem to be good at last minute improvisations.

song example: Crab Eyes, Wormwood, Not Commin Down

3. Moody Blues

A British rock band that introduced a new style of playing. We owe the Moody's for a great amount of modern music. The band sounds like a great orchestra. Super sad love songs and great poetic lyrics. The Moody's are great.

song examples: Your Wildest Dreams, Knights in White Satin, Question

4. Jeff Loomis

A Neoclassical musician whom is the takes the styles from classical musicians and mixes it with harmonic intervals in metal. He also plays gypsy style metal. He also can shred on the harp XD

Song Example: Miles Of Machines

5. Jeff Beck

A creative guitarist whom has a bendy style of playing the guitar. Well known for the smooth depressing howls his guitar can make. Absolutely Beautiful almost sounds like it could wake the dead.

Song Examples: Hammerhead, Nessun Dorma, Corpus Christi Carol

2: Lil Wayne - What can I say... (removed) amazing rapper :DDD wordplay is incredible, variety, and creativity.

3: Nicki Minaj - ' o ' (Female version of Wayne) Incredible word play, lots of variety, and beautiful singing voice :'3

4: Trey Song - Hes just awesome... leave it at that

5: Drake - If i could sing like Drake I would just die :'DDD

I've switched up my top five favorite band list since I last posted, so here is my new one:

4. Blustery Caveat.

- I randomly found this band in the "Related Videos" section on YouTube. I checked them out because their name attracted me, and what I heard was just badass. I liked the vocals and I just love heavy/aggressive music like this.

Songs: Payback in Brutality, Lands of Suffering, Corporal Punishment, Abandoned Existence, Butchery of Sanity, Destined to Mutilate, Acts of Derangement, Human Hunting Species.

3. Animals As Leaders.

- I don't know I just found their song "CAFO" on Fur Affinity Forums's metal thread, and I liked it. I decided to check out more of their songs, and I liked what I heard, so I decided to get the whole album on my iPod. All of their songs are instrumental but they are all just so creative and great to listen to.

Songs: Tempting Time, Soraya, Thoroughly At Home, On Impulse, Behaving Badly, The Price Of Everything And The Value Of Nothing, CAFO, Inamorata, Point To Point, Song Of Solomon

Here are mine[this week]

1. Limp Biskit
Reason: i dont know, i like the beat of the songs, partially because my dad played it all the time when i was little, one of my favorite rappers
Fav Songs: Break Something[not the name of the song but a guess], Keep Rollin' [[awsome song],

2. Insane Clown Posse
Reason: their just... awsome. bad reason i know but to me, all of their dark carnival songs make me laugh,
Fav Songs: My Axe, Tilt-A-Whirl, Neden Game,

3: Rob Zombie
Reason: One of my dad's favorite bands, what i think is because its heavy death metal, and it gets three spot because it brings back nostalgia of playing twisted metal 3 & 4 on PS1when i was little
Songs: Living Dead Girl, Dragula,
4. Linkin Park
Reason: now this ones tricky, i dont remember where or when i found it, or even how, all i know is that the flow of the music gets really nice
Songs: By Myself, In the End,

5. Blink 182
Reason: now, this one, the songs that my dad have are mostly the rock songs about love, how this band got into my dad's CDs i will never know, because my dad is a pure death metal/ rap lover. The band have a nice tome to it unlike the rest of my favorites, this band's songs tones are sad/light, like any other song i like, it needs a nice beat to the song, and this band give no exeptions
songs: dont know any becasue the CD didn't have the songs on it and my computer has them labled as track 1-13

[[i doubt i did this right and i have no favorites in particular, those where the ones i could easilly pick out from my self consious, there are so many refrences to my dad becasue he was one of the people who contributed to my music loving

My choices change way to frequently and I completely love way to many bands to make a good list, but anyway, here it is.

1. Rise Against
Definitely, I love the meanings behind their songs and they sound great.
Fav. songs: Re-education Through labor, Make it Stop, Survivor Guilt, Ready to Fall

2. Lapfoxtrax
They sound so amazing, also similar music choices (Somehow just about all my favorite songs and artists get sampled by him eventually.)
Just about every song by him blows my mind completely.

3. The Beatles
Can't really explain my reason, they just get stuck in my head all the time.
Eleanor Rigby, I am the Walrus, Hey Jude

4. Turisas
So freakin' amazing.
Rex Regi Rebillis, Holmgard and Beyond, Portage to the Unknown, Rasputin

5. Blue Stahli
So freakin' amazing.
ULTRAnumb, Anti-You/Burning Bridges, Shotgun Señorita

But just about everything on this list is a tie and there's around 8 more ties, I just had to think hard about it for a bit XD

Wow man, this is a good thread, almost wish I had seen it sooner :D.

All right, here's my top five:

5: Queen
Reason: First of all, give the dude some credit, Freddy Mercury was a phenomenal singer. That's probably the main reason why I like them. Another reason would probably be that their music is just generally fun to listen to for me.
Favorite Songs: Bohemian Rhapsody, We Will Rock You/We Are the Champions, Killer Queen, Fat Bottomed Girls.

4: Led Zeppelin
Reason: Hmmmm let me see here.....Robert Plant. That's all I'm going to say. What's that? I need more reason? Ok fine :P, because they're awesome!
Favorite Songs: All of them!

3: Judas Priest
Reason: Their 80s metal style of music captured my attention a while ago. Their music is awesome in my opinion (As well as fun to listen to). Plus, I like so many of their songs, I'd be crazy not to put them in my top 5 (Not that I'm not crazy already *Twitch*).
Favorite Songs: Devil's Child, Blood Stone, Breaking the Law, Electric Eye, Jugulator, Riding on the Wind, (Take these) Chains, You've Got Another Thing Coming, Screaming for Vengeance

2: Pink Floyd
Reason: Do I really need to give a reason? Come on, it's Pink Floyd, everyone knows that they're awesome! :D
Favorite Songs: ALL OF THEM O.O

1: Dragonforce
Reason: Dragonforce is definitely my favorite band of all time currently. Why? Every time I listen to their music I feel like I'm sort of in an alternate universe. A place where everything is awesome and where I feel like I can be anything I want whenever I want. It's music that lets me use my imagination a lot basically. Plus, they rock \m/!
Favorite Songs: Fury of the Storm, Fields of Despair, Dawn of a New World, Cry of the Brave, Soliders of the Wasteland, My Spirit Will Go on, Once in a Lifetime, Reasons to Live, Heroes of our time, Heartbreak Armageddon, The Last Journey Home, A Flame for Freedom, E.P.M (Cool intro JS), Strike of the Ninja, Evening Star, Heart of a Dragon, Valley of the Damned, Where Dragons Rule (MY PERSONAL FAVE NBD), Cry For Eternity, Revolution Deathsquad, Operation Ground and Pound, Trail of Broken Hearts. Oh yes, and Through the Fire and Flames XD.

1. ABBA- I was raised on their music. I have all of their CD's and I know all of their songs. Even the ones I don't like very much, I know. x3 My favorite ABBA songs include: I Have a Dream, Fernando, SOS, and Mamma Mia.

2. Katy Perry- Her music inspires me so much. I discovered her through my best friend, and I've loved her ever since. However, her song "Firework" brings tears to my eyes. Every time I hear it, I get extreme goosebumps and it reminds me of how special I am. My favorite Katy Perry songs include: Firework <3, Peacock, Not Like The Movies, and Teenage Dream.

3. Cascada- OUTSTANDING techno group. I remember when I first moved to the US, I heard "Miracle" on the radio. I fell deep in love. I used to not like them for a little while after a friend of mine overglorified "Everytine We Touch." But I came back to Cascada's music, and I'm now a fan (again, and forever). My favorite Cascada songs include: Miracle, Pyromania, Evacuate the Dancefloor, and Breathless.

4. Michael Jackson- Another artist I grew up listening to. I was like, "whut" when he died. A true legend. My favorite MJ songs are: Beat It, Heal the World, Billie Jean, and Thriller.

5. BassHunter- Another outstanding techno artist! I discovered him through a random YouTube search, and from there I grew fond of his music. My friend doesn't like him very much, but I think he's amazing. My favorite songs include: Hello There, Without Stars, Walk on Water, and DoTA.

Honorable mentions: The Beatles, Elton John, Britney Spears, Die Prinzen, and Smile.Dk

I wouldn't say I have 5 favorites. I have two, and then a lot of artists are tied for third. If it isn't rap, it's good. Mostly. But here are a few of my favorites:

1. ABBA- I'm one-seventh Swedish, and their music is awesome.
2. The Cutting Crew (original): The explosive combination of Nicholas Van Eede (vocals, rhythm guitar), Kevin Scott MacMichael (main guitar), Colin Farley (bass guitar), Martin "Frosty" Beadle (drums), and Tony Moore (keyboards); they are FREAKING AWESOME. Some songs you might know of theirs: I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight, One For The Mockingbird, and Between A Rock And A Hard Place.
3. Johnny Hates Jazz: Their song "Shattered Dreams" has wonderful imagery. Clark Datchler, Mike Nocito, and Calvin Hayes are totally awesome.
4. The Four Seasons. Do I need to say more?
5. Mike and The Mechanics: Can you hear them RUNNING? No. Should you hear them ROCKING? Heck Yes!
I basically like all the music on Lite Rock 105, not to mention "Thunderbirds Are Go!" by Busted.

Who needs rap when there's Rick-rolling and Paula Abdul?

Oh. I like Michael Jackson and The Bay City Rollers too.  :P

I've switched up my top five favorite band list since I last posted (yet again!), so here is my new one:

1. Xasthur

- I found this band on a post on Fur Affintiy Forums's metal thread in the form of the band's song "Screaming At Forgotten Fears" and I loved it. I then decided to check out more from the band, then wound up downloading all seven of their full-length albums (80+ songs) and listened to them all, liking mostly all of them. They are also probably the darkest band I've ever heard.

Songs: Screaming At Forgotten Fears, Dreams Blacker Than Death, Legion of Sin and Necromancy, Legacy of Human Irrelevance, This Abyss Holds The Mirror, Apparitional Void of Failure, A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors, Slaughtered Useless Beings In A Nihilistic Dream, Abysmal Depths Are Flooded, Sigils Made Of Flesh And Trees, The Only Blood That Pours Is Yours, Walker of Dissonant Worlds, etc.

I realised I've made my Top 5 out of 80's metal and I think I should make a Top 5 of Today's metal ^-^ ... So here I go :) :

5. Children Of Bodom

Reason: This band is one of the today's metal bands I respect the most as they bring a very powerful melodic metal into all those bands today. The signer's voice is incradeble and his screamin is still yet understandable ^-^ . That's music I like

Songs : In Your Face, Are You Dead Yet?, If You Want Peace... Prepare For War, Follow The Reaper, Bed of Razors, Everytime I Die, Done With Everything; Die For Nothing

4. As I Lay Dying

Reason : This band brings powerful breakdowns that makes me want to thrash like no other metalcore bands. I get this anger, but also this peace from listening to their awesome songs... And the bassist's clean voice is so... so... Makes me think his voice came right down from heaven  :o

Songs: Through Struggle, The Sound Of Truth, Nothing Left, I Never Wanted (great song to hear the bassist's voice), Elegy, Parallels

3. Hatebreed

Reason: This band is one of my latest discoveries and to be truthfull, it's a band I never thought I'd like thas much. Hatebreed brings punk into the core industry along with some awesome lyrics. Music is simple but the tone used is so powerful and makes me want to rage and jump everywhere when I listen to them. I tend to say that the signing is close to rap but I don't know, the signer has something that keeps me from qualifying that signing "rap".

Songs: In Ashes They Shall Reap, Everyone Bleeds Now, I Will Be Heard, Straight To Your Face, Live For This, Beholder Of Justice, Destroy Everything, Never Let It Die

2. Disturbed

Reason: This band... There was many ups and downs with them... I loved this band, hated this band... But now, I'm here to love them now =D ... Their music takes me into the roots of pure metal, but transplanted into today's era. I feel every power of their notes, their words. I feel connected to every songs of them... Just plain like that...

Songs: Down With The Sickness, The Animal, The Night, Indestructable, 10,000 Fists, Land Of Confusion, Inside The Fire, Stricken

1. Lamb Of God

Reason: This band... They make do more than thrash... They make me mosh AND thrash. It's like the feeling of Children Of Bodom... But 100 000X more agressive. I don't know where the signer takes his breath to scream that long  o.O and I like the drums' double pedals. The riffs are heavy, the breakdowns are more than awesome... It's a band that makes me want to mosh... even if I'm alone on the sidewalk while taking a walk in my town with my Ipod on XD

Songs: Ruin, Laid To Rest, Hourglass, Now You've Got Something To Die For, Blood Of The Scribe, Ashes Of The Wake, Omerta, Black Label, Pretty much all the "Sacrement" Album, Grace

I'll do this...

5) Garbage/Hole; I have to tie these two, they are very similar in some songs, and I love both of them. Though I am slightly attached to Courtney Love's vocals. Both female leads, but I enjoy Garbage's instrumentals more than Hole's.
Songs I recommend:
Hole: Violet, Jennifer's Body
Garbage: Bleed Like Me, Why Do You Love Me?

4) Cobra Starship;
I learned about these guys from the movie Jennifer's Body. I fell in love with their dance-rock sound. I continued to look at them, and discovered their first album. I grew fond of them quickly.
Songs I recommend; "Send My Love to the Dance Floor I'll See You in Hell," "Keep it Simple," "Move Like You Gonna Die" and their remix of Fall Out Boy's "I Dont Care"

3) Type O Negative;
I really like this band. They've got this awesome trudging metal sound, with slightly prog instrumentals as well. The songs and albums are usually long, and lyrical themes are dark(for my tastes anyway). I'm also a fan of Pete Steele(RIP)'s at times haunting vocals(something I loved from Tool as well). I'm also fond of their guitar riffs.
Songs I recommend; "I Know You're ----ing Someone Else," "I Don't Wanna Be Me," "Black No. 1(Miss Scare-All)"

2) Kesha;
Yes, really. And before someone says "But all her songs are about getting wasted!" or "She has no talent whatsoever." You probably haven't listened to any of her songs besides maybe a single, or are just spitting words from others' mouths. If you don't like her it's fine but yawn, criticize all her work if you wish to critics her in general. Okay I like Kesha mostly because I like electropop. Plus some of her lyrics(excluding quite a large part of her singles) are well thought out.
Recommended songs; "Heart Fall Out," "Dancing With Tears in My Eyes," "Blind," "Stuck Up," "True Love," "Get in Line"

1) Hawthorne Heights
The only thing I really dislike about these guys is the fanbase. But as I listen to music because I like it, it doesn't bother me. I honestly like their last two albums the most. I'm not a huge fan of post-hardcore, but I am a huge pop-punk fan. Unfortunately for the man who died, these guys get a lot of "their only talent is buried six feet under" because people seem to forget there's more to a band besides a screaming vocalist and a third guitar. I think these guys get the song structure really well, and do very well for the genre.
Songs I recommend; "Drive," "Unforgivable," "Hollywood and Vine," "Somewhere in Between," "Come Back Home," "321."

New Number 1) Breathe Carolina
I seriously got their new album last night at 3am. And I was sooooo excited when I was getting it, I was jumping around and stuff. And now I see why. When it comes to the instrumentals and songs, they usually just seem to do everything right. The advancement in the three albums is an obvious one, but that doesn't mean its not good. It's probably better because they still kinda have their original style and the style of their last album in the new one, while its very new.
Recommended Songs; "Blackout," "Waiting," "Take it Back," their cover of "Down," "Welcome to Savannah," "Can I Take You Home?" "Velvet," "Diamonds," "The Birds and the Bees," "Classified"

The reaon why I didn't put Breathe Carolina is I wanted to wait til their I got their new album to see if they had changed as much as everybody says they have, and if it was bad.

I tried to make an honest list and it's hard when you listen to several genres. >\\\\<

As I did mention in an earlier post here, my favourite bands change :P

I can't exactly say much on why I like these next bands apart from the fact I just love how they sound in general :3 I'm not the best at stating why I like things. I usually come up with "because I just do!"

In no particular order:

Breathe Carolina - I like some of their lyrics and their style.

Blood on the Dancefloor - I know, they have pretty explicit lyrics, but I feel a sense of confidence in them. They kinda give out a 'I don't give a crap about all of you! :D" vibe, and I like that.

Röyksopp - They just sound amazing. I reccommend the song 'Röyksopp Forever'

And without change, Crystal Castles and Paramore remains on my all-time (for now xD) favourite list.

5. Weezer: New Man Rivers need I say more. One of the nerdiest but Epic bands ever.

4. Nirvana: My dad jammed their awesome music in my head from 2 to 9 years old. Rip KB

3 .Rise Against: Words can not describe. The energy from the music and the band them selves. You have to see them live it's mind blowing.

2. Jack White: The best guitarist of the latest ten years. No matter what been he's in or fronts he still rocks the house.

1. My Chemical Romance: oh... Theirs a lot to be said. One major reason the band helped me see my way though I dark time in my life. And Frank Iero , Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Ray Toro. Best band line up ever. We miss you Bob Byrar. Hope you come back soon.

1: Wintersun - A Melodic Death Metal band in Finland. The best band ever in my opinion. A perfect combination of singing and screaming. And absolutely awe inspiring lyrics and instrumentals.

2: 10 Years - Although, they are becoming really mainstream, their first two albums are absolutely the best non-screamo albums I've ever heard. Wonderful, wonderful lyrics, and vocals.

3: The Browning - The MOST PERFECT combination between techno and death metal I've ever heard. Absolutely amazing.

4: Senses Fail - They're a pretty good band I can listen to them at any time really.

5: The Used - A pretty good band with a unique personality and sound to them.

this is a bit of a laugh... why not? i'll keep this as punk/rock/hardcore bands so that people will have heard of them... though something tells me that won't help matters very much. this will also fluctuate frequently, so this is just a representation of the past weeks/month.

1 . planes mistaken for stars ... bit of an oddball band with a very strange front-man

2 . fugazi ... kinda old now. they joined the blasphemous boundary between straight edge and emo in the early 90s

3 . million dead ... frank turner's old band. only had two albums but boy were they good

4 . nofx ... melodic hardcore/punk band that's been going since the dawn of time

5 . reuben ... british hardcore band... well worth a listen

2.  Ramones
3.  Siouxsie & the Banshees
4.  MC Lars/MC Frontalot/YTCracker (three-way tie)
5.  Tobacco/Black Moth Super Rainbow (basically the same thing)

Runner-ups include:
Black Sabbath - love them, but less so in their later albums/Dio years.
Type O Negative - haven't listened to all of their albums yet, so couldn't put them in the top 5.
David Bowie - see above, massive range of genres, can't say I love every single album he's put out
Busdriver - amazing rapper, awesome wit/wordplay.
Karmella's Game - local synthrock/pop band, lots of amazing keyboard/harmonies.

.... I just spent a half hour typing all this out, and then the board logged me off and it all got erased :V
I'll add reasons and such later, top 5 bands are
#1 Haken

Reason:  For their wild, intense, and extremely well played music; everything ranging from ragtime to some brutal growling.  The lyrics hold a deeper emotional link and meaning than may seem.  The story behind Aquarius is a sad one, but damn do I love this cd.  The demos are good too, but that's not a concept album.  New cd released in October :3

Songs:  Celestial Elixir, The Point of No Return, Streams, Blind, Black Seed.

#2 Yes

Yes is yes.  Crazy ass hardcore prog to a more lenient and modernized style of progressive.  Theirs is a musical wonderland the likes of which hasn't been seen in a very long time.  Intricate instrumentals, bizarre and wonderful lyrics, all wrapped around a peaceful, earth based core.   [removed]

Songs:  Heart of the Sunrise, Dreamtime, Homeworld, The Revealing Science of God, The Gates of Delirium, Soundchaser.
#3 Dream Theater

Prog metal, delicious, long, and intense.  Dream Theater amply fills that position, leaving little room for competitors, and a lot of room for their own expansion and progress.  With their ever changing style, exquisite solos, and among the best musicians on Earth, their music involves ever changing keys, time signatures, and instruments.  Listening to Dream Theater is a wonderful way to get a little taste of everything that Prog has to offer, without sifting through dozens of gigabytes worth of music to find the style suited to you.

Songs:  Octovarium, In the Presence of Enemies (pt. 1&2), Ministry of Lost Souls, Pull Me Under, A Change of Seasons.

#4 Höstsonaten

This is what I listen to while relaxing, nice, soothing orchestral centered around the seasons.  The light, ambient style is well suited for studying, reading, sleeping... etc.  In my opinion.   I recommend this to anyone, I can hardly think of anyone that wouldn't like such a band.

Songs: Glares of Light, Night Swan II, Entering The Halls of Winter, Rainsuite, Under Stars.

#5 Frogg Café

Frogg Café is weird.  Really weird. They're the only band I've ever seen to write a song warning about Absinthe.  Their almost jazz-like style is such an abomination that it's good.  Really good.   It may be weird, but I'll be damned if it's not interesting.  Frogg Café is only #5 on my list because I have to be in a very, very specific mood to listen to them.   It's not easy listening, it'll take some getting into.   Light, upbeat, and bizarre lyrics compliment an almost sinister, twisted sort of melody.  The two shouldn't fit, but they do.   Definitely give them a listen.

Songs: Terra Sancta, Under Wuhu Sun ( there are 3 parts ), Leave the Absinthe, Move Over I'm Driving, Belgian Boogie Board.

Lucky bastard.  They're playing live with Haken in Atlanta at Progpower.  I'd give almost anything to go to that show, both them and Haken are playing their new albums...  T_T

Design Your Universe is easily my favorite symphonic album.  Epica is great now and then, Simone Simmons has a wonderful voice.

1. 10 Years
-their songs evoke some deep emotions, and inspire me to find my own ways to express them. Their songs are not repetitive, and each one definitely has it's own unique feel to it. Each song itself paints a picture in your head, and every time you listen to that song you discover something new in that picture. If you have never heard of this band, I recommend you go on youtube immediately and search for them.

2. Incubus
-this band, and everything about it, is simply astonishing. The sound of their music brings forth a calm and sated mood, and whenever I'm feeling down or overwhelmed, I listen to the lyrics and immerse myself in them. Just listening to them you can learn a lot about yourself.

3. Breaking Benjamin
-I listen to these guys when i'm feeling angry, excited, or just feeling like rocking the speakers in my car. They have a broad range of sounds, and is the perfect band to listen to if you are in the mood for some goose-bums.

4. Muse
 - I'm not crazy for ALL of their songs, but they are INSANE to go see live. They know how to put on a show, and certainly know how to make you get off your feet and go crazy.

5. Avenged Sevenfold
 - love this band, and every song they've ever made. Im going to see them live for my birthday next month, and seriously cant wait. I love the passion and emotions these guys weave into every one of their creations. They know how to take the image of a human, and even a more animalistic emotion and process it into sound.

:V  A7x....  I can never understand why people like them.

People like heavier music?  And sometimes they like it heavy, but still understandable and not too progressive/mold-breaking.

I'm not a fan of them, but I can get why people like them.

Doesn't change that I don't like them.  I listened to a fair amount of metal before hearing about them, can't help but feel like they don't bring anything new to the table.

a big reason i like a7x is that their drummer was my idol, and I think his style of it really rubbed off on me. But however he died :( but thats what happens when you do every drug in the world.

(bumps) lol o.o

To input to the a7x part, they aren't really that heavy, like Bullet For My Valentine. Good, but not necessarily heavy and extreme. I love A7X's Waking the Fallen. That's the only album of theirs I can listen to start to finish. Also, I love their use of piano. And I seriously like EVERY song BFMV has put out since Hand of Blood. I dunno what it is about them.

....I still prefer electropop though. XD

3. Brad Sucks

Broseph!  I never see anyone outside of the nerdcore community talk about Brad Sucks.  Nice selection, wouldn't have expected QotSA and Ladytron in the same list.  I'm still irked that he was planning to release six tracks on Rock Band Network, and it somehow fell through.  I asked him, and he doesn't even know what happened.

I learned about Brad Sucks when someone sent me that song when I was overreacting, it was great haha. And yup, I have...eclectic tastes at best. Also not on the list but still awesome: Information Society, Them Crooked Vultures, The Protomen, Motion City Soundtrack, We Are Scientists, and The Dresden Dolls (Amanda Palmer <333).
And that sucks, seriously. More people should be exposed to Brad Sucks. Awesome guy.

5) The Birthday Massacre

Love their songs. Creepy yet feelgood.

4) Collide and The Cruxshadows

Real trippy and easy to get lost in, I love to have these in the background while I work on things.

3) TIE: A Perfect Circle and Shinedown

A Perfect Circle is so beautifully aggressive, while Shinedown is generally feel good, cheer you up, make you mad.

2) Evanescence

Doesn't need an explanation!

1) Pink Floyd

Will always be my one fave music love. Has been since I was a child. So beautiful and perfect and always get lost in it, every time.

>_> I don't see some other people giving an explanation for ANY of their songs or revisions, and I'm not conversating, just posting.

If you really want to know, I identify with almost all of their songs personally, and enjoy the lyrics. The music helps back it up.

I figure if you're posting reasons for 4 out of 5 bands, you might as well post the fifth.  Didn't seem that difficult.

I like knowing exactly what people enjoy about the bands they like, even if I think they're bad or mediocre.

5. Katy Perry
I don't like too much of today's pop music but for some reason I just really like her songs.

4. Huey Lewis & The News
Not a big 80's fan but after getting past listening to just 'Power of Love' from the Back to the Future soundtrack I found that I liked a lot of their other work too.

3. The Beach Boys
Can't go wrong with the Beach Boys. I've been listening to oldies and whatnot since I was born, thanks to my dad. I've seen them in concert 3 times in the past few years.

2. She & Him
I just like theirs songs, they get stuck in my head a lot.

1. Blood, Sweat & Tears
I've always liked their stuff. My dad bought me their 2cd 'best of' set back in high school when the theme for the marching band show was BS&T and I discovered more than just the 2 or 3 songs they'd play on the radio. Not just jazz, and not just rock n roll.

1. Metric and Incubus tie for 1st. They both have very special places in my heart. I was shaking and in tears the first time I saw Metric live. I'm still yet to see Incubus.
2. 311 and Yellowcard tie for 2nd for personal reasons.
3. Tegan and Sara (They are one band, in case someone doesn't know that. Lesbian twins, indie rock/pop)
4. Armin Van Buuren or Ferry Corsten (I couldn't decide)
5. DeadMau5

I like pretty much every 80's artist, including:

Guns 'N' Roses
The Culture Club
Michael Jackson
Huey Lewis and the News
John Cocker
