Title: L. A. Noire
Post by: Jace on May 26, 2011, 10:27:32 AM
I've been watching the commercials but have yet to pick it up for myself. Has anyone yet to play it and could give me the low down before I go out and chuck 50 bucks at it?

It's a wonderful game, I love it. Have you every heard of Phoenix Wright? It's a lawyer DS game where you use your evidence and facts to point out that the one in question is lying and thus bring out the truth. Like, they say they fell in the water at 7:43 pm but their stopped watch shows 6:24.

This is an element I quite enjoy that is in L.A. Noire. But just an element, just enough to make your brain tingle.
I'm sure you know that they used real actors to animate all important faces in the game as well? This enables you to actually SEE if they're lying or telling the truth. And it works. The graphics aren't perfect, but the animation, acting and realism in it really makes it worthwhile.

The game lets you drive around in "a perfect re-creation of 1947 L.A.", chase criminals on rooftops, making you Spider-Man. You're in shoot-outs, you search crime scenes... oh, it's great. Do get it, if you like such things.

P.S.: the musical score is also great, with smooth jazz and music from that period.

If it's anything like Mafia 2, it should be great for me <3

L.A. Noire is a brilliant example of how a video game can transcend the stereotypes of the genre. It's presentation is almost flawless and the experience of being a "real" cop is shockingly immersive. This is a game you play with your brain, not your reflexes. :)

I'm buying this game as soon as I can get the money for it. I just rented it first. :P

I'll buy this game as soon as it comes out on PC XP, only $50 games and steeeeam!

If this is like any other Rockstar game, surely it will come out for PC eventually.

Heavy Rain and L. A. Noire are very different. Heavy Rain has a few action scenes and then mostly it's all luck, chance and pointing your pad left or right. And in some cases, tilting your controller. Not that I didn't like Heavy Rain, but it's NOT the same.

You play, in L. A. Noire. You control your character and you look for clues in people's homes and on crime scenes, you talk to people, you use your own head to find contradictions in people's testimonies and point it out. You earn "XP" and climb up the ranks in the police office. You have full on action scenes and you drive around town in busy streets. It's just so much more.
