Title: Service members sound off!
Post by: Bags thirtysecond on May 25, 2011, 02:41:41 AM
Hey there,

I'm new here (just registered yesterday), and for those who did not read my introduction I am a soldier. So, I'm just curious if there are any other armed service members or personnel on here. Anyone, ARMY, COAST GUARD, AIR FORCE, MARINES, FOREIGN... or even NAVY  B). Sound off proud if you are.

HOOAH!

Indeed. Dont know of any other furries other than myself in the army community (not really surprised because unfortunately im not gonna go saying it loud and proud to my squad mates) but I'm glad to know there are others out there, even if they are few.

I tried getting into the armed forces, but...... nope. I went to the Airforce and took all their steps to get ready. Shortly after I turned in my ASVAB score they rejected me because of my ADHD...... wow....

Then I turned to the Army. I was sooooo close to being accepted by them until I showed my diploma. I have a genuine high school diploma, but I got it through an alternate method. The Army didn't like that method and rejected me on the spot.....

So yeah. There you have it.

I like your avi by the way, I used to have a peace sign sticker on the inside of my scope caps.

HAHA, thanks. that aint a pic of me unfortunately (I havn't deployed yet) but I had one on my helmet cover for a while, until I was transfered and got another. And scope caps eh? DM? sniper?

Hey man dont sweat it, I'd rather not compare the ARMY to the other services  ;), but I am surprised they did not accept you. We are transitioning to more of a peacetime mood as of late (much more strict, and lower recruitment #'s), but we aren't quite there yet so again, that is surprising. The air force is a different story, they are small, and can afford to be strict. But good for you man for volunteering, especially at a time like this. I'm not aware of your situation, but if you're still able and willing, its not impossible (I know a few recruiters, and some other very knowledgeable Army personnel very well, so I may be able to at least do some research for you [feel free to pm me])

If not, dont be down guy, you have tried, and that means a lot. As my CO would say: "You are a patriot." :)

Well, thats a touchy subject but I support you. And there has been good amount of progress on that very subject ( ;)you did not hear this from me ;)). Don't-ask-don't-tell is in the process of being fully fazed out. ROTC battalions, and the service academies are already not discriminating against homosexuals when recruiting and contracting. It is only a matter of time my friend.

However, dont let your friends tell you to join the military. Think it out very thoroughly.

Well I hope dont ask dont tell fazes out :D, It wont feel right fighting for a country that doesnt want people to know who I am... as if its something bad. And I most definatly will put MUCH thought into before i do it :) It wont be fun if i find out i dont want to do it after its too late :x
