long story short, my computers power supply burned out. this is my 2nd one for this computer within 4 months or so. anyone have any idea why it would do this? or am i just unlucky? btw, my first computer never did this. got the parts from the same store
-
if you keep the battery in while it is plugged into a power socket, the battery will overcharge and die. same happens to DS's.
-
The battery, or the power cord?
-
power supply, like the box in the computer. so battery. i never had that problem with my old computer. besides, i turn off the power strip its plugged into every night.
-
So this is a desktop from what I gather, sounds like you need a bigger power supply, if you have one that is too small it will continue to burn out due to your other hardware overcharging it.
-
ah, I thought he was talking about a labtop...
-
i call desktops computers and laptops laptops. my current one fits snugly into my case, so i dont think i can go bigger
-
Then you might need a bigger desktop case :/
-
Well, I guess I have to agree with White: You might need a bigger power supply, bigger as in more watts...
How many watts are your current one and what's your hardware specs? (Graphics card, CPU, etc..)
-
my wattage is either 180, 300, 430, or 450. icant give specs cause i cant get into my computer to look it up

Okay, it seems abit low to me... depends on the hardware tho, but I'd suggest trying maybe a 650w one... you know if you got 1 or 2 graphic cards in there? And do you consider it medium or high-end hardware?
-
just 1 grapic card. id say its medium now only because of the graphic card
-
Okay, well, as said.. a 650w should do just fine. For recommendations, I'd recommend Corsair.
-
Wait, why can't you get into your computer now? If it's a desktop and you've been buying replacement power supplies... that doesn't make sense unless you mean software wise? It will say on the side of the power supply you put in or you could look for some sort of receipt.
-
my computer wont turn on because the power supply is fried. the first one fried so i used my old computers, and now this one is gone too. im on my ps3 for the time being
-
Then... open up the hardware and check the number on the power supply inside the desktop case?
-
ok its 450w. 115v, 7.5a, 60hz
-
bought myself a brand new one thats 600w. all fixed now so ima lock this thread now.
