I was wondering,
I know us furry's have a bit of a stereotype going on of overweight Socially inept people.(Just to name a few) >:(
To disprove atleast part of the stereotype i state my question, do you do any (team)sports?
-
Baseball, soccer, basketball (only defense, mine kicks butt. On offense, even Charlie Sheen strung-out can beat me T_T )
-
I missed the tryout for the Junior team for basketball in September 'cause of injuries but I managed to make the U16 team at my school, and we've been having pickup games and /or tounements pretty frequently.
I also just signed up for Baseball again which I'm super excited about, that should start up in Early to Mid June. :D
-
I used to play baseball and I play hockey also :D.
-
I'm a huge skiier and I do marching band *nerdyfur* so I'm more active than your usual socially inept geek X3 but I do not like team sports
-
Kanga? Socially inept? POOOOO-LEEEEEEZE! Also, I also do World of Warcraft PvP. I R So nurdy, I consider it a sport.
-
I do a bit of banger racing over here in the UK. There are 3 of us racing so it is a team.
I used to play as a goalkeeper for a local soccer team as well, and a bit of fishing... but thats not a team sport.
-
I used to play baseball and I play hockey also :D.
Everyone in Ontario plays hockey. X3
-
Played soccer since I was about 8.... Made Junior Varsity this year at my school; hope to make Varsity nxt year. I will also be trying out for waterpolo as well nxt year.... Also considering this a "team" thing I go paintballing with my friends atleast twice a month.

Yeah that's what it seems like XD. I'm terrible as a defenceman though XD.
-
Seems like a lot of u guys (no girls :?) play sports or team sports.
I myself cycle 2 or 3 times in the week and have been trying to get into running. Used to run every other day but when i got my new job i didn,t have the time or energy so i quit.
Right now i cycle 110km trips in the weekend and 30/45km during the week. I like triatlons and i am i good swimmer so maybe train for that? :D
But yea, right now only cycling.....
-
i can't stand team sports because when I tried 'em as a kid I would always mess up the game and make my team lose and proceed to get beaten up :/ at least in solo sports when I fail, i'm only failing myself XD

I fit that stereotype perfectly.
I don't do team sports because I don't like working in groups and I don't do sports in general because I'm just lazy.

Howdy, Nice to know weve got some athletes here!
I'm a bit of an athlete myself. As a kid I played soccer and baseball (but then again so did every other kid in america). I got pretty competetive in soccer and played until freshman year in HS. Then I found football and loved it. In high school I played football, ran track (and did the triple jump for field), but my favorite sport was wrestling (dont say it, or assume it T_T). I was pretty competitive, and made it to states a lot. I love contact sports, so once I enlisted I made sure to take every combatives opportunity I could. I love grappling, and have gotten into judo a little. I'm in shape because I have to be, but I enjoy running and run all sorts of races in my spare time.
Other than that, I am an experienced competitive shooter (.22 LR pistol and rifle), and love paintball and airsoft (if there are any of those on here, feel free to hit me up :3). So.... ya... I play sports, and I'm always willing to play pick-up anything with my friends and colleagues. In this topic I am familiar. In being a furry... not so much
-
I'm pretty BA at competitive lap swimming, but other than that I stink at everything lol.
-
Oh yes, I do tons of exercise every day.
Getting out of bed...
Walking the stairs many times a day...
Lifting the remote...
Typing...
Vacuuming the floor...
Carrying groceries up a steep hill...
Getting emotionally involved in the games I'm playing...
Yeah, tons.
-
Nope. Not an activist of Sports, nor do I enjoy tons of strenuous exercise; I have a muscular disorder (that I can't recall the name of currently) that keeps me from being able to strain them too much, as well as exercise induced asthma (I hate the coincidence in that... -_-). I'd LOVE to be able to, but I'm physically incapable of playing sports to what I'd like to.
-
O wow, More reply's then i imagined.
Got myself a new bike btw :D, its a Stevens Xenon.
Full carbon frame, shimano dura-ace brakes etc, mavic ksyrium wheels.... sweeeet XD.

To bad its raining bucketloads outside :(

I'm thinking of taking up jogging this summer
-
Yay! Drake's a jogger too! :3
-
that is if i can finally get my knees to stop screwing up, they should be fine now :3
-
I love doing a bit of walking myself, I probably wouldn't mind being a jogger if it was possible where I lived :P. The sand makes it rather difficult on our acreage.
-

Exactly what I do!
I really don't do much at sports, more of an exercising kind of guy. Mostly jog and weight lift.
-
Sports I play include:
• Swimming
• Street luge
• Ice Hockey
• Softball
:)
-
Well... I used to practice weight lifting (not the gym one but the professionnal with the snatch and the clean & Jerk) ... But I stopped since I didn't had time and had a big lack of motivation...
Now, I'm just sitting around, doing nothing but gaining pounds :/ ... I should try to get back on jogging and playing Volley-Ball :/
-
I'm a girl :) and I did track and field in school and I ride on a dressage team...
-
Paintball is a sport?
-
- Eventing (Form of horseback riding)
- Roller Derby
- Yoga
- Cycling
- Polocrosse (Basically lacrosse on horses)
-
not on any teams anymore. but from 3rd-9th grade I played soccer, baseball, basketball, football, and i tried lacrosse in HS.
-
I'm not a very competitive person so sports aren't exactly my thing, but in middle school I was on the Track Team and in high school I was in Cross Country for a while. I still jog on a regular basis, however, and aim to do so for some time XD
Running for fun and health is what I can do!
-
Paintball. More specifically woodsball. Nothing gets the blood pumping better then crawling thru the brush with an AK (Well a 98C with an AK barrel anyway)
-
I'm not allowed to play sports.
Seriously.
I skip PE in my school.
-
CQC ... Need I say more :D Airsoft, no restrictions on power levels no minimum safety distance
-
Nice to see some fellow ice hockey players on here. I fit that stereotype pretty well until I started college. The only physical activity I did was marching band, and that's not enough, even with our physical routine, to stop one (me) from getting fat and lazy. I stopped doing Tae Kwon Do about halfway through high school, at the rank of 2nd degree black belt, because I got put in an adult class before I was ready (they put my there 2 years early because I'm so much larger and taller than most kids my age).
However, when college started and I was really getting into ice hockey (the Penguins had recently won the cup and were riding high) I joined an intramural street hockey team and played goalie. My pads were made of packing foam, covered by a bit of plastic, roped to my legs. My catching glove was a baseball mit, my helmet was an old style goalie mask latched to my face, and my blocker was an intermediate size. No chest protector, no goal pants, no neck guard, nothing. I came home from practice and games with welts like I'd never seen before (worse than paintball) but I kept going, and I had a blast.
I decided I wanted to play more after the intramural season ended, and I started playing roller hockey. The catch was that I couldn't skate, so I could only play in leagues where goalies weren't required to wear skates. I found one, and I happen to get on a good team. My team went 8-1-0 and won the playoffs. I was using loaner pads at the time that were about 15 years old. Here's a video of a dramatic shootout win in overtime with me in goal:
http://youtu.be/PqqESTxstQ0 (http://youtu.be/PqqESTxstQ0) -- I'm on Who Cares? and am the second goalie. The first was my opponent. Watching the video now, I realize how slow and pathetic that was compared to the league I play in now.
Now, I've got a set of leather black-white-silver Bauer Supreme Competitive 155 leg pads w/ matching glove and blocker, a real goalie helmet, full chest and arms protector, goal pants, inline goalie skates (took a 4-week ice skating class last January), a carbon-composite stick, etc. I'm also starting to play ice hockey, but since I can't afford skates, I'm stuck using rentals. I've progressed to a higher level of inline hockey, and most recently played in a draft league where I'm still at no. 5 or 6 all-time regular season goalie stat leaders in just 2 seasons. In a total of five seasons (45 games), I have 3 assists and 1 fight (with one win), and a pretty decent save percentage for inline hockey.
I also play airsoft. I was a designated sniper with the 501st Elite Airsoft Division outside of Pittsburgh, but they disbanded a while back. Now I just freelance or play for fun. Paintball is fun, but it's a b**** to wash out of my ghillie suit, and I don't have a good gun, so I prefer airsoft.
I've also taken up archery. I shoot recurve bare-bow for target competitions. I also consider hunting a sport. Before I get crap for it, I only hunt groundhogs, and only because my pap needs me to, because if the groundhog digs a hole in his cow or horse pastures, and a cow or horse steps in it, she'll break her leg and might have to be put down. I've gone deer hunting but I've never got anything.
While I'm in Vienna, I've been going to the gym 2 or 3 times a week to work out. I've realized I need to slim down considerably to get into the Air Force in a year and a half. So far, I've lost about 45 pounds/20 kilos. Sorry for the long post.

There isn't enough people that play airsoft around here, so we don't have a team its just a few free lancers that aspire to the real game of airsoft (yay pyrotechnics), since we have almost 150 acres of Mt. Forrest land where trying to set up a 24 hour siege starting at 12:00am and goes to the next day :D you have to bring your own rations, etc. sadly there is only like 12 people that play Airsoft here. >.>
