My friends and I joke a lot about furrys, and being one is a pretty taboo thing at my school. which is a problem, because I happen to be one. it would seem pretty easy to conceal, but I let it slip. in math, one of my freinds started looking through my sketchbook while my back was turned. the first things out of his mouth: "HEY! NORTHS A FURRY!"
great. so now, im stuck trying to find some definative proof that furrys are not a bunch of idiots in fur suits running around being total perverts. but let me make this clear: the sketchbook contained no pornographic images. just some normal art of mine. now im in danger of losing all respect and friends, simpley because of stupid sterotypes broadcasted on the internet.
I would appericiate your advice

PS. im not the only furry at my school. but I cant ask how they made it through this crisis because that would result in some imbecile saying some extremly vulgar comment about me and whoever you might be talking to.

I do beleive that there is n answer there, and if all else fails, annoy them to death.

if they really were your friends, they wouldnt dump you for being a furry. Daemon's answer is excellent and just the one youre looking for, except for annoying them to death part. the bigger deal you make of it, the bigger deal they'll make of it.

thanks for your guys advice. I mean they are my friends, its just they cant accept that any furry at all dosnt get horny from their own art and does not perform bizzare rituals of initiation in fur suits out in the middle of the woods.
funnily enough, one of the guys we call furry blade, because his sibelings are furrys, but hes still on a mission to entirely eradicate us. like the movie blade. .. one of them yet still trying to destroy them...

For the most cold-hearted people, there's just no way of doing that, unfortunately. Most people who listen to the stereotypes stick to their guns. But if they were truly your friends, then you might be able to make them realize furries aren't all bad with a long, calm talk.

Well, I wasn't a furry when I was in High-School so I never really had that problem. I still have yet to tell my high-school friend on Facebook I'm a furry.

If they're your real friends they'd accept you no matter what. If they pick on you a bit I wouldn't fret on it too much just tell them that it hurts you if it does.
Introduce them to other furs at school (dont tell them at first)

The other furrys at school are already... aquainted... with my friends.

wierdly enough, one of them introduced me to the other furries
but at this point, Id really like to know where the negative furry sterotypes at my school came from.

Me I would ditch those *insert insult* on the spot. I'm sure your extremely capable of finding better friends.
As for convincing them it will be hard especially because haters love to interupt (again bad friends humph humph). Perhaps playing along with some of their jokes without showing any emotional changes they'll probably drop it soon. Tell them how much it hurts you as well.

I have a few friends among the furrie community at my school, but, as was mentioned in my earlier topic, being a furry is the ultimate taboo at my school. I just want to hang out with these people, as my previous "friends" now despise me for being a furry. HOWEVER. if a pair or group of people who are known as furries interact in any way at all, everyone says stuff like " oh so and so are going to have an furry sex party hurr hurr."
ITS ANNOYING
so in short, I cant interact AT ALL with the people id like to be friends with. its not like they dont want me to be around. actually, the other furries would love for me to hang out with them, because im the only one with any art skill at all. its just that high school is a fragile social ladder, and one wrong step could send you tumbling down to the bottom.

why do you want to be friends with the people who make fun of you? and why dont you want to hang around with people who do want to be your friends? Anything that they say to you can hurt you, only if you let it hurt. Just ignore their comments and be with people who you enjoy being with.

All people who oppose me are pretty much invisible to me. I would stick to your guts and hang with the furries haters will be haters they're still crap no matter how much sugar you sprinkle on them. Do yourself a favor pleez ^_^ I don't even think they need convincing I think they need one less friend to be perfectly honest.

thanks to everybody for their advice. ive been here less than 24 hours and already like the community. so my final decision: ill go with the other furries at my school, but still hang out with a few of my less hate filled bros.

You'll come to notice we furries are more than a fandom we're a geat big supportive family with lots of hugs to give.
That's why I don't call it the furry fandom anymore. I prefer to call it the furry family. ^_^

Furries, Goths, Emo, Metal Heads, Punks, D&D players or any alternative hobby, lifestyle or 'nerdish' interests have ALWAYS been the target of childish hatred & mickey takin'. I think it's not as bad 'ere in the UK, but from what I've seen & read I gather that high schools in the US can be pretty vicious. High school has always been about findin' acceptance & bein' part of the 'in crowd'. Those who are lower on the social food chain are fair game for these superficial idiots. The more you react to the finger pointin' & the insults, the more they'll do it.
When I was at school I was ripped for bein' a metaller, playin' Dungeons & Dragons & a nerd. I just joked along with them & made a few self-deprecatin' jokes. The funnier I made them, the more the haters left me alone 'cos not only was I funny, but I obviously didn't care what they thought. It was hard at first, but well worth it ;)
A couple of peeps at work know I'm a furry, but the reaction I got when they found out was "meh"... no one cared 'cos they're adults ;) Remember mate, you're only gonna be in high school a few years & then you'll never 'ave to see the idiots again ;)

It seems typical of haters and hate groups that the stronger their hate, the more unwilling they are to let go of their prejudices. I think the best example of what true furries are like is this forum. It's why I stay here. :)
If they harrass you again, I would simply ask them if they'd be willing to learn the truth about furries. If the answer is yes, then there's hope. If the answer is anything sarcastic, antagonistic, or anything else negative, then don't waste any more time or energy on them. I'm amused by the fact that the only thing I'm intolerant of is intolerance. :P

Exactly. To be honest, I don't think its because we are 'odd' But that we are in the minority....

If it were me, I'd totally embrace all their hate and be like "yeah, I'm pereverted. but like you aren't?" I mean, honestly, considering the amount of pron and pervertedness in today's schools is it really so wrong that some of those perverts are furry? Really? Why is the label furry any different from labeling any other fetish? How is it any worse?
But, it is not a fetish, it is a lifestyle and my response would be more of a joke to my haters than anything, since I answer to hate with jokes. Other people here have already answered well and appropriately, trust what they said. ;)

You could always tell them to grow up, threaten with a discrimination suit of bring up some dirt on them. All completely legal and all effective. To varying degrees.

since they know that you are a furry, tell them that furries are not a bunch of perverts. Include yourself saying that you are not a pervert, etc...

Just tell em furries are people who enjoy anthropomorphic art, roleplay, music, cartoons ect :D You can also explain to them that every fandom has its pervy side... It should work, it not, than forget them and let them live in ignorance...
