Playstation network down... Day 6
-
what's going on with the psn?
-
Anonymous hacked them, so they're epicly down. It's been 5 days for me, though I've heard other people haven't been on for 10 days.
-
i've only been using it for netflix and it keeps being down for me
-
yea, without PSN, netflix won't work on the PS3
-
no it's been working for me actually
-
must be back up, then
Post Merge: April 27, 2011, 11:46:30 PM
nope, it's still down
-
I meant it was working for me without having to connect to psn
-
PSN is down because Sony put it down, to stop the hackers. The hackers didn't bring it down. And anons have already said that this wasn't there work >.>
-
STOP THE DAMN HACKING!!!!!!!!!!
HACK INTO X-BOX FOR GOD'S SAKE. HACK INTO X-BOOOOOOOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
you must not have read their site recently, Sain. They found out one of their members HAD hacked into the PSN system and shut it down.
-
Oh, Sony still claims it was they them self who shot it down, Sony said it would be back open in a day or two
-
their 2nd post back on the 21st said that an external source had hacked their system, causing it to down. you really should read carefully. the prolonged outage is their fault, since it was originally planned to be back up 4 days ago.
-
I finally realised that I can't play killzone 3 online >.> (Smok3Dogg1 add me whenever it comes back up)
And yes it was hackers that brought it down, obviously Sony was gonna say it wasn't hackers. It is said to be Anonymous who hacked them....
-
Yea, you can't play anything online without the Network. So let me just straighten everything out so you guys actually know what REALLY happened so we don't get any more false and/or incomplete reports from a particular someone on this thread.
1) System was hacked by a single member of Anonymous on the 17th, which resulted in siphoning personal information from a number of members.
2) The hacking continued on for 2 days, into the 19th.
3) By the night of the 20th, Sony realized they couldn't put a stop to it, so they shut down the Network that night, posting a blog to say it was an "unexpected occurance".
4) Because only a single member did the hacking, Anonymous denied any involvement with the PSN hacking when all fingers pointed at them.
5) 1 day later, the single member who hacked the Network told the others it was him, therefore Anonymous re-posted that day, admitting they were responsible. It is also the same day that Sony finally disclosed that the system was hacked.
6) By day 3, the 23rd, Sony was finally able to regain proper control of the network and began the real maintenance (resulting in the error messages turning into "Playstation Network is undergoing maintenance").
7) May 24th, police investigation is now hitting full swing.
8) May 26th, full diagnostics has confirmed a good percentage of members' personal information has been stolen and that, thank god, credit information of any kind was not even touched and that the full encryption/firewall/protection server were completely untouched.
9) May 27th, server rebuild and reinforcing starts, and PSN will go back online in roughly 7 days, or whenever Sony feels that the servers will be fully protected and that an incident like this will never happen again.
-
I was just stating what I read/heard. I don't care enough to check up on every update.
I'm sure your right shinzu, I just hope it dosent take as long as May 26

So PSN won't be back until probably May 27th? :o
-
lol I think he meant to say April 24th, 26th, and 27th
-
See, I was gonna get a PS3 soon, probably this summer. But now I'm not so sure.... :o

the psn will be fine dear X3
-
yea, sorry about that. i meant to say april, not may
-
I really want to throw that cursed black box out of the window :/ Hope they'll deal with PSN problem soon.
-
yea, sorry about that. i meant to say april, not may
Ohh, okay. :3
-
Split this discussion into its own thread.
-
okay, thanks zephyr
-
that's fun
-
PSN is fun and all, but I still think the best thing about any gaming console is the single player games.
Until Psn is fixed I'll be re-beating Da2, trying to actually finish New Vegas, and maybe DA for a third time :D

STOP THE DAMN HACKING!!!!!!!!!!
HACK INTO X-BOX FOR GOD'S SAKE. HACK INTO X-BOOOOOOOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Xbox already suffers from hackers on MW2, Halo, GTA IV and many others so I think we've already got them.
-
So guys did you hear? The new mortal kombat game gave 2 diffrent Exclusives for the ps3 and xbox360
The Playstationg got Kratos from God of War
And The Xbox got online play
*trollface.jpg*
-
meh, who cares? xbox can suck it
-
xbox and ps3 debate is old. please stop. Ps3 has better graphics and is more reliable-ish.
xbox has better online play with more support. although you have to pay, which is why it's so good.
Stop now. kthxbai.
-
with the amount of patching that xbox does with their network, rather than actually fixing problems with hacking, their system will end up crashing eventually.
-
The difference is, people are hacking into game dedicated servers on xbox. not the main server.
and that's what they did with ps3.
-
So they caught the hacker eh?
Ive been fine with it bein down :P i got gta4
-
yea, i will say, for the record, my skills in MVC 3 have skyrocketed big time.
-
So they caught the hacker eh?
Ive been fine with it bein down :P i got gta4
the gta4 that i bought for you kid X3

Sadly enough it seems like we are looking at a bit of a longer downtime with 25 Million more people's data stolen just announced by Sony. Well there goes my dreams of Platinuming Portal 2 for a while.
-
It really is a shame, PSN just got Portal 2 with with PC cross platform gameplay and then it has to go and get hacked D:
-
Sadly enough it seems like we are looking at a bit of a longer downtime with 25 Million more people's data stolen just announced by Sony. Well there goes my dreams of Platinuming Portal 2 for a while.
from what I've read from Playstation, and through their corporate office, the number did not exceed 1million, counting the initial hacking.
-
Why are people so defensive with consoles? I did a simple joke and everyone was like ''ZOMFG NO UR XBOX IS BAD PS3 IS BETTER''
Also, its going to go up in the end of the week according to The magic box videogame news
-

You may be right, I am just going off of what articles about Sony's apology said.
-
I heard there was another hack D:

you should try goin through official releases rather than through exaggerated media.
I heard there was another hack D:
there wasn't
-
There was:
http://www.backup-technology.com/5935/sony-hack/
-
I would be skeptical because it isn't from Sony them self, so you don't know how legitimate the source is.
-
yea, that article is extremely off. the numbers are completely off and not up to date. my cousin works in Sony Corporate Japan, and I follow Playstation's official statements through their liaison, so yea, not even going to pay mind to that at all.

yea. lol. their game dedicated servers..not the main server...and besides anybody with a modded console can hack a game server...lol...it'll just cost you $$$
and from what i've heard there's gonna be a 3rd attack on Sony...this time they're targeting their website...not sure if it's happened yet or not...
...Glad I own an X-Box. Lol
not to mention Sony's private data was all in RTF format..Lol...real secure guys....I'd like to shake the guy's hand that did this.
P.S. Isn't it Ionic that Osama shows up dead when the PSN network goes down? amazing what people can do when the playstation network is down...
(P.S.S.: It's only a gaming console. You're not gonna die of missing some online play.....)
-
The way I see it, this hack was more than likely done in retaliation for Sony suing the modder who finally managed to jailbreak the PS3. I'm not surprised at all that this happened. And honestly, I'm more on the hacker's side than Sony's. A commenter on a gaming forum best explains by saying: "The whole 'this could be used to break the law' [argument] is crap. My car could be used to break the law in dozens of ways so I guess we should sue GM right?"
For contrast, there are thousands upon thousands of modded Xbox 360's out there, and Microsoft hasn't sued anyone for it. They just ban the console from Xbox LIVE every time they find one. Simple enough.
I'm still kind of amused by this whole PSN debacle because I've always done my serious gaming on my 360, and Xbox LIVE has never once been taken down, for any reason. :P
-
dude, osama died WAY after the network was down
-
I think it was indeed to frame perhaps "Anonymous" who was protesting Sony's PS3 on behalf of OtherOS which was removed and for Geohot and another hacker, seems awfully convenient that not only did "Anonymous" say they angrily did not do it and yet someone claiming to be this Anonymous person claims to have attacked Sony with the same slogan and everything, would be a real convenient way to remove three major threats at once. And if Sony was in control I guess they wouldn't have to be worried about losing any info whatsoever. Anyways that's my crackpot theory from reading the article over here: http://ps3.dashhacks.com/
-
if you checked the initial information i gave you guys, and checked Anonymous' official blog, they claimed responsibility
-
They said they were related in some way, but whoever did it was out of their control. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109842-Anonymous-Members-Hint-at-Unofficial-Involvement-in-PSN-Attack
-
their initial response was that it wasn't them, but they later announced it was indeed one of their members that had did it, and had planned it. A majority of the group had no idea what the hell was going on until it came to light to them.
-
sooo.. is PSN up yet? i haven't had the time to check
-
Yep! they are back up!
-
yea, it was 2 days late, but they did it. it's black ops pissing people off time!!!!!! RAWR~!!!!
-
There's always a bigger fish out in the sea that's quicker with the R-trigger :P
-
I believe he wasn't talking about other players. I think he was talking about how it pisses off everybody in this house when he plays it. And somehow he enjoys that (but he says he doesn't).
-
i meant other players, and you know it, dear.

I have to agree with this. because it's true..XBL has never been taken down...nor has there ever been a game server blocked for whatever reason. and I've been gaming on the 360 for 4 years almost...would I give thePS3 a try? sure...if there were games worth buying on it....but any game worth buying is usually multi-platform.
Like I said previously...I'd love to shake the guys hand that caused this....and I can't see this happening to the XBL network anytime soon....considering it's Microsoft...and they know their computer/security stuff unlike Sony.
-
Oh yes shake the mans hand for committing a crime, that's always good. Btw you say that xbl has never been taken down... you do realize this is just the first time it was taken down right? Because if it was reverse then every one would just say the opposite. If your going to make a comment like that at least wait until it occurs more then once to make a stupid claim.
Ps3 games are better then xbox games.... just saying (not to mention a multiplatformer looks way better on ps3 then xbox).
-
Let's not turn this into a flame war guys, hackers turn up everywhere and every company has issues every once in awhile.
-
The network is back up so there is no need for posts in this thread anymore anyway. Thread locked.
