Just wondering if anyone had any shifting experiences/stories to tell. I've been increasingly curious about it lately because of my recent experience while out walking the last two or three days.
So as some of you may know, my fursona is a white Siberian tiger with large black wings, and it is an extremely frequent occurence for me that I will feel parts of my fursona's body as though they are actually part of my physical body. Like phantom limbs, ears, my tail, and my wings. Well, the other day I was out walking along a park trail and it was really windy out by the standards of my area. Now when I was walking with the wind, nothing happened. But when I started back, walking against the wind this time, I could actually feel the wind filling my wings and blowing through my fur! Not only that, but I could actually feel my wings resisting the wind! These sensations were so strong they were nearly overpowering and I was very nearly overcome by the desire to run forward, jump into the air, and beat my wings against the wind until I climbed higher and higher into the sky and could fly freely, to anywhere I wanted to go. The pull was so strong that I was sure I would've physically shifted if I'd actually acted on these feelings. My whole body was practically begging for it.
I know how extremely weird this sounds, but this experience was so incredible for me that I feel like I have to talk to someone about it, and this was the only place I felt safe sharing this. :)

No I know exactly what that's like, shifting doesn't happen for everyone, but I have had it happen a few times. Once was pretty cool and scary at the same time, but I could describe similarities. Feeling fur, claws, and such to the point where it felt like it was always there. It can be pretty random too sometimes.
-
One thing that happens to me fairly frequently occurs when I get particularly excited. My back teeth feel like they're almost swelling, changing shape and position, and my jaw locks up a little so I can't really talk.
-
Yeah I have that problem with my canines in my mouth and my nose and "ears" that occasionally appear.
-
I've had experiences like those before... I would start feeling my tail or ears, or muzzle when I'm sitting in school. I think it pretty cool. ^_^
-
The one thing that almost always brings out my fursona is listening to metal, Disturbed in particular. While it doesn't necessarily bring out the desire to actually shift, I can still feel the ghost of my fursona form come out to play and rock out. It's like the music is bringing out my true self. :P
-
i have had and still do shifting , i love it feels so good. my fursona is a anthro k9 or a wolf hound, so i do feel phantom tail and ears. and some times when i feel it i bark
-
I dunno if this is the same thing as shifting. but about two years ago I was walking to school and all my senses suddenly heightened. like it felt like a cover was over me and then someone just lifted it. I could smell all sorts of things and my vision seemed so much brighter and I could see things and make out signs and letters from really far away. My hearing had increased alot too, I could hear what some people were talking about from across a river in their garden.
It also felt as if my mind wasn't in my body. as though it was floating behind me. But then I felt a bit wierd and I sat down, I fell asleep for about half an hour and when I woke up It was all just normal... o.o

that could be , very insetting though

Something similar happened with my sense of smell a few years ago, shortly after I...discovered my fursona. It was kind of a weird thing because I didn't really plan to make one or have one, but as I started thinking about my furryness and what brought me to the fandom, I just sort of realized what my fursona was. Like it had been there all along. Not long after that, my sense of smell got much more sensitive. To the point that certain, everyday smells practically choke me and I can't breathe at all for a few seconds until my nose recovers.

Shifting... I miss it D: I havn't had the experience of shifting in quite some time.... I need to let myself go more.
However, when I was awakening to my therian self, i had some pretty strong, and frequent, shifts. Phantom and mental in particular.
I rememmber at least one occasion, I was in school. I suddenly got very alert. My ears pricked up ( I felt it) My tail stiffened, and My head kept swivelling back and forth, keeping an eye out for something. And the wierdest thing: I could tell individual smells for everyone around me. I would smell people and identify them before they came in sight range.
BTW... turns out it was the biology teacher passing by with a pig heart to disect... thats why i got all alert... was hungry i guess>.>

I've had experiances shifting before. Feel free to pm me if you'd like to talk about it. I could be a good friend, and who knows, we may have a lot in common.
-
I always have my phantom tail and ears, im use to it now and if and when they vanish i feel a little off and want them back. Big k9s and sensative eyes at night are the few physical traits i have.
-
I've gotten to a state where my furry side is almost constantly manifested, but it does come with one draw back.
Anytime the shifting ends suddenly, I feel furless and cold.
-
That is rare for me LOL
I hope one day u will have control over when it shows up or goes away????
-
Meh, nearly a necro thread, but I thought I would add my experiences as well.
I feel crazy whenever this happens. I know I am physically human. No question that I find a visual shift impossible. But still, the mind is a powerful thing. So, I have two fursonas representing two parts of me. One, Glitch, is my typical me. Quixotic, imaginative, and usually let down all to often because of these traits. I am usually her in my dreams.
But Axis, the one representing my rage, is the one that is most commonly shifted to. Like many, when I get extremely angered, I begin to shake and tremble. Past that point, I feel Axis' mane rising up on my spine, a phantom tail brisling, ears pressing downward, and sometimes the burn of scars on my extended canine muzzle. Claws are a very common thing for me to feel. Sounds like something that belongs in dreams and not real life.
I attribute all of the above to a very active imagination of mine. I'm not batshit insane; none of us are, really. We just have a better sense of who and what we can be in our minds. Quite frankly, being human-bodied is.. tolerable.. but human-minded? No, not for me.
-
I don't know if this belongs here or wether I already talked about it but I commonly feel that I have a tail... Even though it's not physicly there, I feel it as a metaphysical tail... It's there... But invisible. And you know, once, I closed my appartment door and my body wasn'T that close to the door but I felt like the the door closed on something so I yiped in fear only to discover later that it was that "tail" I closed the door on.
Pretty weird O.o
-
That's more common than you think and is considered part of therian shifting.
-
I hope you guys read this. transforming the soul is easy. you just focus on your inner self and feel the change. It wont be physical, but spiritual. Alot of people can do this. Now physically shifting... Not yet. Be patient. That time is coming for everyone :)
-
Last night I could almost feel myself changing into an alicorn. Like from MLP. Oof... I need sleep....
-
Shifting is not that hard really. Well... At least for me it's a piece of cake.
You just have to focus and go deep into your imagination.
-
I know, but I changed into a PONY. Creepy....
-
It happens recently a lot, especially when I'm on a walk with my dog (rottweiler).
I thought that wearing my collar might increase it, but I can't relate yet.
I haven't had any physical shifts yet, like previous users said: increased senses. Damn, I'd love to try that out.
-
sometimes i feel my ears tails an whiskers
-
I feel I have wings sometimes :3
-
actually, i dont think ive ever felt human. its like ive been "shifted" since i was born. i also feel phantom ears/tail almost constantly.
-
I just found out about other people shifting today... It seems like a very cool experience, especially when I imagine someone who's fursona possesses wings :D Occasionally, I feel like the wolf/dog (I am a hybrid of both) part of my being comes out more in certain situations. Sometimes, I feel the protectiveness of my alpha wolf side coming out, but I do think that has to do with my personality. I do feel a phantom-effect of my wolf snout, and claws. I do not actually see those, but I can feel them on occasion. Very cool experience though, it certainly brings you closer to your fursona/animal side of your being. ^_^
-
I can't shift at all. Face it guys, you're decieving yourselves. Just stop. Besides, your constant, "Look what I can do!" Makes others feel bad about themselves. Sorry for being a party-pooper, or whatever, but please. It's lowering self esteem.
-
I once looked into shifting and stuff. I have to say it's never happened to me but I want it to happen. I've looked up how to do it and then tried and tried but no dice. I've never felt it as strong as some of you guys say.
-
Is... Is there any way for me to become a therian?
-
I wasn't trying to lower anyone's self esteem ;-;
I thought this was a thread meant to share experiences
My apologies
-
No no, I should apologize. I took the thread off topic. I'm not a therian. Sorry Eve.
-
I see, I was just born normal I guess...
-
Have you ever tried to Meditate Cecilia? Maybe if you do you could find out if you are one
Maybe you just haven't awoken yet?
-
Yes I've meditated but I've never felt anything like an "awakening" I've never really felt anything that you guys feel. Sometimes if I try hard enough I can, but it still feels imaginary to me....
-
Awakening and shifting don't happen by forcing them, they happen when your ready to take off the mask of being human. When I shift, I do it by letting go of the human side and letting the animal take the lead.
I can keep a shifting up for a month event while at work, though it is getting harder for me to get the animal to want to stir in the first place.
Major Depressive Disorder, Feline Therian, and a sunny day usually mean my furry side wants to sleep in a warm comfy place over playing.
-
I guess it's true then. I'm no Therian.
-
Neither am I. And it sucks. It's not fair to me.
-
You don't chose the Therian/Otherkin life
It chooses you :3
-
Shifting can be forced. It's not as powerful but it can be. In my experience being a furry is a pretty close "first step" as far as what you can control. Pretty much just allow it to happen. It's more important to allow it to happen than to force it to happen. You may find you are stopping yourself more often than not. I've shifted, and do it fairly frequently. I have ghost limbs. It doesn't make the world instantly amazing it just becomes as normal as your arms or legs. You will get there but focus on the now. Not what could be
-
As far as my phantom shifts go, I can feel my ears just about whenever I like (considering that my theriotype is a fennec you can probably imagine how weird that feels) but the rest only really happens after I've experienced some sort of mass relief (on a sensory level not emotional) or I try to imagine it.
Sometime I get bad shifts, more commonly when I don't wear my collar, but most of the time they're rather pleasant and calming.
-
So this is what it's called...
