Title: Impossible Science, possible?
Post by: tangletail on April 14, 2011, 04:13:22 AM
Many of us have thoughts of impossible science. Many wish it could exist. Many have proved it could happen. Many have proved by actually creating it.
Can you come up with a theory on an impossible science?

Yes I am bored, and I am a geek. Bite me.

Light-sabers, the beloved sword in star-wars that could somehow deflect lasers and shoot a laser that stops at a certain point and does not extend forever. This version is very impossible as its impossible to stop light from and expect it to stay in relation to the device. Games such as System Shock and No More Heros have actually designed a more possible version with some kind of metal rod or crystal structure at a predefined length which is energized becoming a logical light-saber. While Scientist are actually creating this structure... it would make god knows how they are doing it I can actually imagine them trying to stop a laser at a fix location, System Shocks version of it seems more possible. A simple long and well... durable Piezoelectric crystal could be used as the swords length. On contact piezocrystals have a unique property of creating an insanely high voltage from just a single tap. Inside the handle would be a device with preferably a green laser ((currently our strongest one, capable of eating through metal like it was nothing)) that will be energized by the spark generated on whacking the crystal against someone or something causing the laser to shoot a beam which would hopefully be refracted by the crystal structure creating intense burns.

Debate or Create! Just get bored with it. I know I am :/

I saw Dr. Michio Kaku (butchered the name sorry) was talking on the science channel about making plausible light sabers. The technology to make it wont be for 40 years or something but it involved I think fiberglass, super heated plasma, and could cut through just about anything. Lemme see if I can find it on the tubes.

Lol, I was gonna say that Lightsabers were actually plasma based weapons. However they wind up making them real, I want one. :P

funny..i'm listening to Weird Science by Oingo Boingo right now...

the green lasers arepretty poweful..orthey can be...i have a 20mw oneand it has a visible beam....and it runs off of 2  "AAA" batteries..then there's ones taht go up to 1000mw which can burn...100Mw ones will pop a balloon as soon as it touches it...if you hold mine agaisnt your hand you will feel a warming sensation after a minute or two...and it is BRIGHT like 3 meters away pointing it at a walland not even half lookign at the wall it hurt to look at....and it's only 20w....these ain't toys....

but there are also otherlasers...such as blue...and red..they can be jsut as powerful the colors are jsut the different wavelengths....green I beleive is 532nm...red is 200 somethign i think and blue is 300 something but blue ones tend to cost more then green but green ones are more then red...

I think Green is illegal to own in the united states o.o The strongest we are allowed is purple, unless its a lab then they may have green.

i'm in Canada...x3 not sure if it's legal or not...i think if it's under so many Mw it's legal 30mw is the max i think...
