Title: Baseball
Post by: Alexei on March 18, 2011, 09:36:01 PM
What? No thread on baseball?
It's America's pastime for god's sake! (This coming from a Canadian)

Yeah, so the season is almost started, who's excited about this year?
Ooh, and what's your favourite team?
Hint: I like the Red Sox. X3

I'm quite excited, as always, for the start of baseball season. My favorite team is the Chicago Cubs.

How could you root for the cardinals after telling me "I do like the cubs"?

Doesn't necessarily mean it's his/her favorite team.

Exactly.
I respect them as a team, doesn't mean they're my favorite. ;)

Baseball...

I did never understand how they make points in this game. Seriously.  :S

I don't know what is the objective of running around the camp and how  they make a lot of points only doing that.  x_x

In brazil, anyone plays baseball, but when we was a child, we saw the people running around the camp, after beat a little ball with a piece of wood and we think it's cool. So, we did the same thing, but without making points. Because we didn't know how they did.

Sooo, turning back the subject, what's the rules? How make points? What's the objective to run around the camp? To beat the ball? To take the ball?

Finally, everything. :D

Well, the first thing you need to know is that points are scored when a runner makes it all the way around the field after hitting the ball, there are four bases layed out in a diagonal shape that the base runner must step on.

There are typically 9 players on a team and they take turns hitting the ball thrown by the player called the pitcher on the other team.
When a player hits the ball then the other team must try to catch it in mid-air which automatically records an out, once three outs are recorded then the teams switch sides and the people batting go out to pitch and field while the people playing the field come in and bat.
If the ball isn't caught in mid-air then the player who picks it up off the ground must either tag the person who hit the ball or throw it to a teammate that is standing on one of the bases to record an out.

It's a pretty complicated game and I'm not very good at explaining things but if you really want to learn how to play then this is a good site. http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball (http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball)

Hope it helped.  :)

Haha I couldn't agree more.

It's a mind game more then anything else really, lots of technique and strategy is required if you take it seriously but it can still be simple and fun if you're just playing casually.
