I have been a furry for almost a year now and have unfortunately found no other furry near me. The thing is, no one knows i am a furry, not even my family. I have no idea how to find others without asking people about furries. Is it common for a furry to have other furry friends that live nearby? I am very lonely an hope to find a furry nearby that I could talk to.
Any suggestions about what I should do?
Should i wait a couple years until I am an adult to look for other furries?
If your wondering, I am from Austin, TX.

I'd start looking at furmeeting threads and such, maybe look for a TX fur forum by googling?

I feel your pain too...its hard opening up to the people closest to you and finding new friends is even harder because it requires a lot of trust that they won't freak out on you. I've slowly been trying to make friends myself, but finding them isn't easy because most furries are usually very shy and elusive...like me .... and with good reason for the caustious behavior cuz people can be very mean sometimes. But good luck friend in your search, and remember you always have friends here to talk to if anything.
I live in the state of NY in the U.S., where there are lots of conventions but I tend to not go often cuz I have no one to really go with. But lately the loneliness has been really eating me up so I'm trying to reach out as far as I can without getting burned for it.
Where do you live generally, if willing?

Not having any furry friends is actually what brought me here. I'm a functional loner in that while I don't actively avoid human contact, I don't actively seek it out either. So not having any fur friends to physically hang out with never really bothered me, but it was the not being able to talk with any other furries that started getting to me. Thus, I came here. :)

I have furry friends, I just never do anything with them because so many judgers are around and I'm judged enough already

Well, I couldn't have choose any best place to live to be a furry TBH.
I mean, out here in Portugal there might be like... 4 furries in total? :\
I think the USA is a good place to be a furry, I searched for furmeets and I found like hundreds of them in the USA.

What do you mean by judgers? You can talk and hang out with them without being in school.

I spent almost all of my time as a furry thinking that there were no other furries in Maine besides me (and my mate when he moved here from Illinois)...then AirRaiser joined the forum and she's from Maine, then Sir Crocodile joined and he's from Maine too, and THEN AR put together a Denny's furmeet and I met a bunch of other furries from Maine (and a few from NH).
So yeah, moral of the story is, you're not really alone, you just don't know about the others yet.
And I never went around looking for others. I wasn't even comfortable with finding and meeting up with other furries until about a year ago when I met AR in person at PortCon and then the Denny's furmeet this year. So don't push yourself into meeting others until you're ready.

I met the only fur that I have met face-to-face in my area at a metal concert xD he was wearing a collar and it wasent leather, so I brought it up and it turns out I was right xD he's not on this site though >.> Despite my telling him to make an account, he says he doesent like forums because of the lack of personal contact.
