I have played demos of dead space 2 and it seems like an awesome game, however it seems to fail a little bit at horror...

i mean sure finding a blood covered drawing of a little child hugging his mother whilst a small message reading "i like hugging people and retaining all of my limbs, i enjoy not being dead" is enclosed is freaky and adds back story somewhat, But the game needs some damned juxtaposition! If a necromorph jumps out a vent and swiftly turns your neck into a hat it is scary, but it tends to lose the shock factor after it happens 800 more times in a row...

If EA had made the necromorphs stronger and used some added juxtaposition when considering the players reaction to ingame events then it would be a perfect game.

Also the button sequences are top notch, they really draw you into the game.

I appreciate how EA has taken the time to research the symptoms of dementia and schizophrenia, it helps make Isaac's position in the game world more realistic in relation to what is happening inside the sprawl.

Also Nicole is scary as heck, and i was sad at the point where Isaac confesses why he can't let go of her.

Also dead space 2 DLC is coming soon, it is going to follow in the footsteps of Gabe Weller and Lexine murdoch after they arrive on the sprawl after the events of Dead Space: Extraction. Sadly i believe it has been announced that Nathan Mcneill is dead. However he probably would have died later anyway, because he would have massive combat disadvantages having lost his shooting arm.

The marker causes degenerative mental effects. This causes dementia and many forms of schizophrenia in those exposed. The marker can then control the symptoms and use the hallucinations and paranoia to tailor the uninfected to create or facilitate necromorph infestation. e.g.

Sam Caldwell killed his entire crew due to hallucinations, this caused the Aegis 7 outbreak when the corpses of those he killed were infected.

in the Aegis colony about 90% of the population went mad, hundreds were killed and reanimated and after a few hours the colony (and the ishimura) went silent.

However it is interesting to note that Lexine Murdoch was the only survivor to have an ability to not be effected by the psychologically damaging effects of the marker, however she did suffer some physical trauma as a result.

So yes, the marker causes the hallucinations. Nicole is designed to lure you into traps and work towards the goal of total human infection. Alternatively it could be using Isaac's unwillingness to lose her to try and make him protect the marker so she never leaves him. Nicole also brings Isaac closer to the marker for another reason which i am not going to disclose due to spoilers.  ^_^
