what was your opinion? How do you think it affected peoples view of the fandom? I was watching with my mom and she kept going on about how wierd that was x_x. lol.
-
Well it's not exactly a positive view of it, is it? And a straight lie I think since it's not something you can be "addicted to" more than how you're "addicted" to your favourite shirt or pair of socks. It's something you like, it's something you do when you can and feel like it.

The problem was she could not go in public without it :x
-
Ahh well I haven't seen the episode so I can't say much.
-
is there a link on youtube ?
-
It was an awkward episode.
Very awkward.
I don't even know why she was really on the show at all, she said she liked wearing her fursuit more than just being out in public as herself, and i can see where that is kind of bad... but besides that nothing was wrong. They even sent her to a therapist and they said she was fine too. She has a hobby, and she enjoys herself, nothing wrong there!

there's a bit of the episode, i'm not sure where to find all of it

Here's the entire episode:

Lauren said that TLC twisted her words to make it seem like she never left the house with her fursuit on which was a lie, she only wore it around her friends.
I think the fandom was a positive for her, she joined after her father died and it helped her get over her depression while TLC is making it seem like she's using the suits to "Hide" from her daily social life.
And of course they had to mention the sexual side, overall it doesn't matter if the media mentions yiff but only IF the subject of the show actually does yiff, there was no need in bringing up sexuality when the girl never had aything to do with the sexual side.
The fandom was not an addiction for her and nor is it for most people, but TLC made it look that way.
-
the whole yiff thing was also weird... they made it seem like it was some negative outcome that would happen.
like how in some cases smoking pot leads to cocaine use, well, with this it was like wearing a fursuit sometimes leads to you ending up in crazed orgies! x_x
-
if they want a strange addiction, they should look into why media has the addiction to demonize all things furry... or at least, most media.
-
That's true, I mean they were looking for a fursuiter for the show for a couple months.
Persistant little buggers.

Exactly, they made it seem like the fandom was a path to yiff and it started with fursuiting.
Another thing is, the family couldn't really come up with a better response as to why she didn't want her doing it other then "It's wierd"
Is it really that bad to be wierd? Everyone has there likes and dislikes, no need in obsessing over them.
-
that bugged me too! when they went bowling her family was being snippy about it. i look at it the way i look at say the goth culture or something, just let people wear what they want! if you think it's weird, that's your thing, the person wearing it obviously doesn't so try and make them feel bad for what makes them comfortable.
Also, she is damn good at making suits, hers is really cute and what i remember of her boyfriends, it was awesome too.
i would be thrilled if i had a child that talented! i mean her mom should be more supportive, she could be making lots of money of things like that!
-
Yeah, I was talking to her and she said that she left the fandom after, even thought she's still making the suits.
-
What? WHY? on the show it said she was still wearing them and such (though i realize the show is aired way after it is taped)
-
This program depicts addictive behaviours that are dangerous and risky in nature.
Viewers should not attempt.
It's just like eating your own hair, sleeping with your blow dryer while it's turned on and huffing gum.
BRB guys, I need to find a therapist.
-
oh yes, it's very dangerous and very risky. XP
-
We are sick, sick people.
-
Being a furry is much worse than being an alcoholic... or ya know... eating couch cushions...
-
They are freaks, worse than Elton John and his son.
I am 100% sarcastic, I think it's wonderful.

It's TLC we're talking about here.
-
XD true
but why did she stop? :(
-
She said there was too much immaturity and drama in the fandom, you should have seen her youtube channel.
So much hate....
-
Then maybe one could just avoid the whiners in the forums?
-
Why was she being hated on? :?
That's really sad though, i hate when people give up something they love just for other people. OBad apples shouldn't stop you from doing something you're passionate about
-
She is still 'engrossed' in the furry fandom. Engrossed? seriously? why did they use a term with such bad connotations.
She could probly make money of those fursuits. There pretty good!
-
Because it's obviously a bad thing to be a furry T_T
and that's what i was saying! she could make a decent amount of cash doing that!

Some furs are saying that this episode was too negitive, they feel like she's sold out.
I'm indifferent, if she needed the money then I don't really care.
-
Ah, well that's just dumb.
That and you mentioned how they twisted her words around and things like that, so what she thought was ok, ended up on tv being not-ok. it's not her fault. i mean she might have been hoping that it would even allow people to see that furries aren't the stereotypes they think they are. poor girl.
-
Honestly, any fur that goes on air gets hate. Just ask Chewfox. It's stupid that furries can be that immature about it. It's not like she sold out anything.
-
I don't like how they implied that if you stay in the fandom, you'll be screwing each other in fursuits in no time.
-
Wait... is that just me then? :?
