I am very excited. If you haven't played Morrowind or Oblivion, you have no idea how amazing this is.

I really don't expect much from this game, especially when i saw what they did to Oblivion  :( I wish they could make something like Morrowind or Daggerfall.
I especially hated Bethesda team for what they did to the beast races, no digitigrade legs, they can use boots or closed helmets etc. + they had a retextured human body with tail :/
First of all they should completely remove level scaling becouse it was a total mistake :/
Anyway Oblivion with mods was a very nice game, so i hope Bethesda will add Construction Set to Skyrim too =D

I'm with catfish. Oblivion was a good game, but nothing near what it could have been. Knowing the direction Bethesda is going, there is probly going to be an even smaller map to make things look "shiny" but the role-play factor will be nerfed evenmore then it already has been. I'll definitely look foward to the game, but not nearly as much as i was looking forward to Oblivion. I just don't want to get my hopes up like I did before and start playing it and realize that its just a main story with a few side-quests and good graphics.

From what I hear, you get an even bigger map than before, with entire MOUNTAINS to climb.  And a lot of fans are screaming for even better RP stuff, like getting a gf/bf in the game.  Catfish, the no digi legs was an engine limitation, you can't really blame Bethesda for working with what they had available.  This is a brand new engines, so digi legs probably will be back.

The same here. I don't want to be dissapointed again :/

Enigne limitations ? No, it's a laziness of the besthesda team ! They were able to implement digi legs to Morrowing but they couldn't do the same to Oblivion ? There are mods for Oblivion with digi legs created by common fans, so it's definitely not an engine limitation.
Oblivion was a simplified version of previous games only with better graphics.
I'm really afraid of what they can do to the beast races in Skyrim =D Maybe this time it will be a common human with cat ears and tail and bethesda will say it's just another variation of khajiit =D

The mods didnt really replace the feet, remember? really all it did was give you "shoes" you couldnt take off, but could wear shoes over.  The engine prevented the from making digi legs.  and the human with cat ears? That already was a variant of Khajiit in previous games.

So WHY they haven't done the legs that way in original game ?! There are a lot of ways to change the legs.  For me it's just laziness and nothing more.
In previous games they were just a common people with tails, but in 1998 i really didn't care about graphics or character designs. The gameplay and story were the things that keept you playing the game.
Now it's 2011 so they could show some differences in games.  I really don't want simplified version of Oblivion :/

I think your being a bit critical.  If it isnt in the vanilla, its in the mods.  You need not worry about anything

There trying to attract other, more mainstream users. In the process there losing there current users. Its all to make money, and its ruining the game. Daggerfell and Morrowind were games i just couldn't put down. When I finished Oblivion I literally said out load, "thats it? ...seriously?"

It was less roleplaying and more of an attempt to make the game look "epic" that ruined it. It was the makers that tried to make the game what its not.

All we can do for now is just to shout loud and clear : Todd stay away from Skyrim !  ^_^

..Its all to make money...

Sad truth  ^_^ Most of the big game developers still thinking that way.

I think your being a bit critical.  If it isnt in the vanilla, its in the mods.  You need not worry about anything

Yeah Bethesda did a really fine job releasing CS, it's definitely rescuing their games.
I'm usually critical to new games, becouse i was dissapointed too many times =D

Im excited to see how the adventure will be as I have been for some time.  I am sad tht they are changing it more to make it seem like they advance in time cause now it is the 4th era so everything is bound to be some what different.  specially with the dragons and all.

From what I hear, you get an even bigger map than before

TES III and IV use the same sized map and most likely the same will be true for V becaues of how the CS works. All exterior maps can have up to (200cells by 200cells) after that the game will start glitching and you will fall through the ground .... Interior maps however can go on for inf. as far as i know because the game technically counts the whole map as 1 cell. Also I'll be looking for some beta testers for my Oblivion mod if anyone wants to help me out.

The only thing I don't like about Oblivion was the Havex engine, leveling system, and the fact that the Imperial City was tiny even though its suppose to be the biggest city out of all the city's in all the games. The NPC's talking to each other was cool and all but if I hear one more thing about a Mudcrab I'm going to go postal. Though I'm not going to pick on Bethesda for that because they had to rush to finish the game in time so they didn't get to add all of the conversations they wanted to. It would have been nice if it was released as a mod or something later though.

Pfft. I'm down.

I don't know why you guys are all complainy about random strange things that I don't even know what you mean, but I recently got Oblivion and I am ADDICTED. It is the best RPG I have played in my entire life. The graphics are beautiful, the quests are epic...the Dark Brotherhood line was especially epic since I love to play evil characters and I managed to acheive the position of Listener in a single night (last night to be specific....yeah I'm running on no sleep). I am a bit depressed that there isn't going to be more to it, I wish it could go on and on with more story. The whole quest line coming to an end over night is really sad, but at least it was an epic run.

In fact, I love Oblivion so much I need to make fan fiction and fan characters! Yay I think I'm going to do a fan comic as well! I can put that random cover I drew to use.

However, even though it is the best RPG ever I do wish that it could have had more variety.

All in all, though, very excited for the new game. Will DEFINITELY buy.

Have you played Morrowind?
Or Daggerfell for that matter?

IMO these games are 10X what Oblivion is. Oblivion is a good game, but they ruined the art that was Elder Scrolls.

Post by: x on January 17, 2011, 06:44:38 PM
Well, if Morrowind and Daggerfell are like Oblivion but are supposedly ten times better then hells to the yeah, I'm gonna check them out too! Much the better for me to be an Elder Scrolls fan if I play all of them!

I personally feel Oblivion is a really really really great game from the days I've just spent playing it non-stop and I've sampled a few adventures and RPGs in my time. It's like a personal, fantasy style Second-Life, but without the crashes. Plus it's really beautiful and in your face instead of cheesy like most non-Japan RPGs. But yeah, I'm not trying to start anything, besides you said it was good, just not as good, so we're cool. If I get the money ever I would love to check out the earlier Elder Scrolls and see for myself.

Whoever designed these games is amazing....I never thought I'd see the day when the beauty and driving story of a JRPG met the customization and free will of american (?) style roleplaying.

Yeah if you play Morrowind...you WILL lose your life lol. And its only 20$ at your local Best Buy :D

and I would probably rate Oblivion above most of the other really good games out there. Only a few that would beat it...COD MW I+II for instance. Still its not like any other game, and its so fresh. which is why its so amazing. But as fresh and amazing Oblivion is, Morrowind is THAT much more new and awesome.

I played Morrowind for the first time when the original Xbox system hit the shelves. I had it keept away and some time ago, I found it in a box. I put it in my 360 And heard the morrowind theme once again.

I cried<3

I hope Skyrim can live up to Oblivion. I enjoyed the ragdoll physics in Oblivion. My favorite thing was to coat my weapon with a paralyzing potion and stab someone on a hill. The result was them freezing into a statue, falling over and proceeding to roll relentlessly down said hill. Good fun it is. I also love sneaking into guard stations and replacing all their food with poisoned apples. Instead of grabbing then eating normal food, they would grab and eat poisoned apples. Watching them slowly choke and gag as the poison flows through their veins...Priceless...Not to mention picking fights with them in this state. Yes, that's how I play. I'm a dirty fighter.

I really hated the ragdoll in oblivion I mean sure it was good fun watching a person go rolling down a mountain, but it was way to unrealistic. You walk past a table and it looks like you hit the plates and cups with a bat with the way they go flying off the table. The collision boxes where way to big on some of the stuff also, It makes it very hard to make your house look pretty.

Current Oblivion Mod Count: 127 Mods

I cant say much comparing TES III and IV  because i never played Morrowwind, but i do agree that IV was a great RPG compared to others out there. I do hope they dont change too much in V because I enjoyed IV a lot.

woot moar Oblivion fans ftw! *brofists* I can't wait, I really hope Skyrim lives up to its legend, I wouldn't be happy if it changed more than a few things....i.e. it should be improved, but I don't want to see it change into something I wouldn't recognize.

I hope they don't get rid of Nords, my girl is a Nord all the way and I'd use her again....don't think they will though, since it is Skyrim after all. I agree that more furry races would be nice, though I don't know if more furry races would be realistic. It would be cool to see different furries though, I imagine that since Skyrim is more mountainous there would be like, wolf furries or something. Also, there are going to be dragons more often? yes? no?

I use Nords as well and they probably won't get rid of them since Nords are from Skyrim.

The races never change. The won't do anything with them. They have used the same universe that have used since the original Elder Scrolls. The stories actually go from one game to the next. In Oblivion there are references to the hero of Morrowind (although I don't remember exactly where). And I'm sure there will be reference to the hero of Oblivion.

I hope they make a more diverse wildlife In 5 because I mean yeah they had scraps and a few other things but ... compared to 3 which was filled with all sorts of weird creatures Oblivion was pretty bland ... SI made up for some of that but still

Holy shit, what is this?
Forged in God's very flames.

Do mine eyes tell me lies,
A new Elder Scrolls Game?

Time is nigh, I must fly,
Venture forth on my quest.

Goodbye Ma, goodbye Pa
And goodbye Girlfriend's breasts.

I'll be off Azeroth, catch you later Hyrule.
I'll be gone Albion, I'm no longer your fool.

Other crap filled the gap
While I waited to begin...

The adventure of my life
in the land of Skyrim!

I'm just glad we even HAD playable anthro races, even if they were just retextured.

What about this game, though. What kind of races will it have?

Edit: Oh, just the same ones, the humans, the cats, the lizards, and I forget what the other ones were, but I know my dad, for some reason, always plays as a blue person in MMORPGs.

Okay, so I've been looking over stuff on Skyrim and gotten worried. They speak of tightening the main storyline and making more cutscenes and making it quicker to fast travel and such.

Don't get me wrong, I like the sound of improvement for Skyrim but...

I also LIKED that I had to go and explore to find locations I couldn't fast travel to. I liked sprinting/walking from one town to the next and getting lost in the forest. I liked having a lot of options, quests and factions to choose from. (though I wish I could have joined the Necromancers or Mystic Dawn and done something of a story with them). All of this realism and having to explore to find places made it feel like I was living a game, and my char was me.

Im probably just paranoid but I really don't want them to cut down the exploring, storylines/quests and meat of the game just for better graphics and battle, like they did in FF13.
