Vivienne was completely focused, her emerald eyes narrowed down at the small part of a large Gun she was later going to hook on,this one was labeled J7723, the serial number matched with the Giant steam powered mecha it was going to go with. all night she worked on it, from parts to nearly complete. she stood up and stepped back and admired her work. the gun was bigger than her, weighed more than her and was going to need a crane to lift it up. she used a dirty rag to wipe the grease from her face.
"One down..." she looked at the others working on weapons for the giant machines, she sighed with exhaustion and annoyance "twenty nine more to go..." she slapped the rag down on the tool table before kneeling down again to see if anything was missing.
"Vie" a voice called to her, she looked up as a towering Grizzly stared down at her, overalls and smugged white shirt he held two cups of steaming tin cans. she grinned.
"Thanks Ben" she took the coffee, it was black, she didn't prefer it like this but it was better than nothing. Ben chugged his down before he spoke "Nice work there girly, better than what the boys can do"
she looked around her environment, he smell of metal, oil, shouts and laughter, tools...how she enjoyed it. "well I am the only girl after all" he chuckled softly.
"go to sleep girl, you are going to need it"
Vivienne nodded as she travled out of the Warehouse and into the streets, as she began to walk, it began to rain heavily. drenching Vivienne in a matter of seconds, the grease and oil in her fur began to slightly wash out, but she didn't mind, she was used to being filthy
-
Patch sat on a corner underneath an archway, watching the furs go back and forth, laughing a little every time one of them got splashed by a Mech or an automobile passing by. People-watching was his biggest pastime. He would catalog the fat ones, the skinny ones, the real annoying ones walking with their girlfriend's arguing. Having a photographic memory helped. Every day, outside his shop on the same corner. It was a peaceful existence. Building by day, watching by night, sleeping in the hours between. He sighed.
*Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrriiing*
The Bell telegraph he had in his shop was calling. he knew this to mean only one thing... he had another job to do. He pulled up the Telegraph and wrote down the morse as he herd it, and when the message was over, he translated quickly. He frowned at the message that lay before him. Inside, he calculated the odds, found them favorable, and shook his head. Turning to go, he dropped the slip of paper into the fireplace, where the embers lit the parchment.
And as he turned into the rain, pulling his jacket over his mechanical arm, the message could faintly read...
"ASSIGNMENT: Locate Warehouse STOP Find new Mech weapon design STOP Return to dead drop STOP"
-
Vivienne still walking in the rain had to dodge a couple of automobiles in order not to get splashed. a couple times she was tempted to go into a lively pub but then she decided not to, an d continued on. she was soaked and she wanted to get home soon. she finally came to down town. she walked by the occasional loner or couple walking into a restaurant or parlor. she kinda wished she had a coat but then again, she couldn't really afford one. the one thing about being a factory mechanic is that you don't get paid much. she mumbled something about greed under her breath..
-
Patch looked up at the warehouse in the dark rain. The words "the Warehouse" lined the top in dripping letters. He looked in through the front door, and pulled his trench coat tighter, his hat low on his face. Walking into the room with the mechs, he saw the Grizzly Forman stand up and look over. The grizzly was the last one there so far as Patch could tell.
"Um... Is this the warehouse?" the stupid question rolled off of his tongue in a kind, polite way. Under his jacket, he powered up his arm, putting a charged piece of metal into the long spike. The shock from being touched with the spike would be enough to knock out a Grizzly... if he could get close enough.
-
Vivienne stopped when she saw a automobile pull up next to her, it was a couple of her co-workers. they stopped "we need yer help Vie" the Jackle pleaded, Vivienne sighed as she hopped into the bed of their truck. it only took a couple of minutes to get back to the warehouse. Ben barely glanced at the small figure behind him before approached the truck , but frowned when he saw Vivienne.
"Vie..." he said warningly, she grinned "sorry the guys said they needed my help?"
Ben Rolled his eyes " fine, but the night shift is already starting...you know how they can get around women" she laughed, then nodded to the jackle and the huskey. she looked at the small figure, she sniffed the air...fox.
"you lost there buddy?" she called
-
Patch turned. Great... this was going to make his job a whole lot more difficult...
He focused his mind into the arm piece he had, slowly growing energy.
"No, i am supposed to meet someone back here..."
He started walking towards the back where the mechs were. He felt the energy lock. He could deal with them if it got messy.
"I'm in the right place right? The Warehouse?". He was pulling the innocent card and doing a good job of it too. He made sure not to show his face.
-
Vivienne stared after the figure, her gut tightened, while Ben was busy she followed him, silently she followed him in the shadows. she was taller than he, then again she was tall for a female. "Hey buddy, you are not supposed to be back there!" she called after him. "its employee's only!"
-
Patch walked quickly into the back room and hid right behind the doorway. The first person through the door would get it and he would sprint out the room...
"Back here?"
-
"this guy is not listening" she grumbled, a wolf and a beagle approached "somethin bugging you Vie?" the wolf asked. Vie looked around, the figure was gone like a shadow, she blinked her emerald eyes, still focused "no...the guy left" they left, but she stayed perfectly still, then slowly she approached the door. this guy was very odd. she stopped, she didn't like the feeling she was getting. she ran her fingers though her wet raven hair. she said absolute nothing but waited, silently she approached and crouched right in front of the door way. her ears flicked to the sounds of the night shift...more oil, grease, metal... but she trained herself to tune them out.
"VIVIENNE BLOOM!" a voice echoed through a loud speaker like thing. it was not Ben's, she knew who it was and she groaned in frustration. she stood up and walked through the doors to the busy warehouse
"Yo vie! the boss is not at all pleased with you about something" a black lab called. Vie rolled her emerald orbs "really now?" Vie walked into the office where a rather large tiger in a well tailored suit and top hat stared at her with burning gold eyes. more like an angry, frustrated glare.
"Vivienne..." he stood up, he slammed something on the table, pieces of parts from...a weapon. "what the %$#& is this ?" he asked, his tone heated with anger.
"parts" she answered simply. he growled "yes, expensive pieces at that Miss. Bloom"
-
Patch sighed in releif. He grinned, and with a hiss, the rod reinserted itself back into the arm. Sneaking around throught the back of the warehouse, he found what he was looking for. Plans. Written up. He snatched them and dashed back into the rain, no one knowing any better.
*just wait till they head into the back room*
-
Vivienne out of the window saw the mysterious figure running, something was bothering her. while her boss explained the importance of money, she stopped him mid sentence "so sorry sir, I have to go..." she bolted out of the office as she ran she yelled "I PROMISE IT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN!"
she ran out of the warehouse and chased the figure, making sure to stay hidden within the shadows and at least several feet behind him. her gut told her that this guy was shady....why was he near the warehouse...when he clearly was not there to meet a friend..?"
-
His paws splashed as he ran through the streets, caking his already soaked jacket. The plans were tucked into a pocket of his coat, and he turned a corner. He checked behind him and saw another fur following him.
"Curses... I will lay this one down... she must have seen me..."
he hid behind a corner and primed his arm again.
-
Vivienne stopped, rain drenched her whole body. she stood there, barely even moving... she knelt down in the shadows and pulled out her wrench. there she waited as tension started to build, quietly she creeped into the next shadow and stayed there, then the next, then the next. when felt was close enough she waited, barely breath barely moving, just the sound of rain...
-
Patch just waited... he heard the pawsteps get closer and closer. His muscles tensed as he heard the sound of metal. He crouched down...
-
who are you... she thought to herself, she looked down at the wrench in her hand...she was never a violent person. she put away the wrench and crouched low, she crouched down against the wall . "you know...acting shady is only gonna get you into trouble fox" she began to play with a lighter since she didn't smoke. she rested her head against the brick wall. "what ever you have, please give it back, we would much appreciate it" she pushed some wet raven hair out of her eyes and waited silently for a response
-
Patch was startled. He whispered.
"I can't..."
-
"why?" she softly replied, again she pushed back her waves of raven hair, showing her feminine features she so desperately tried to hide. "its wrong to steal you know...whatever you have, it doesn't belong to you, it belongs to the crown or ..whatever" she waited a couple of moments "please" she pleaded softly "I am not fighting you am I ?"
-
"no, but if i don't, i am gone. Dissapeared. Better steal and live, or die."
-
Vivienne peered though the darkness, she didn't dare come any closer, no matter how much sympathy she felt "then why risk telling me that?"
-
"because you don't know me"
-
"can you trust me?"
-
"i can't trust anyone. I shouldn't even leave you alive."
he sighed under his breath.
"no one needs to know."
-
"you want to kill me..." Vivienne said slowly, she sit down on the wet sidewalk and looks up at the sky, the most magical moment happens, as it still rains, the full moon appears, making the rain drops seem like silver tears on her silver fur. "go ahead...kill me, if thats what you want"
-
Patch breathed in, internally beating himself up. What was he doing???
"I... I didn't mean it like that..." he sighed.
A hiss and the metal pole retracted into his glove.
"I can't give you back the plans now. Wait on the north bridge and I'll give them to you tomorrow."
His pawsteps could be heard as he dashed away.
-
"wait!" but he was gone, she stood there for moment as she repeated the place under her breath..."See you then..." she dashed back out into the rain...
-
Patch litterally fell through his door, rasping for breath, drenching the floor with the rain that had been building up on his trenchcoat. Flinging it off of his thin frame, his metal arm clutched the plans that had, luckily, not gotten wet. He ghasped and stumbled into the back room where his own plans covered the walls.
Lightning flashed.
He got to his table and rolled out the stolen plans. The weapon design was simple, but accurate. It seemed that they had divined a way of taking out the turnhandle on the gatling gun and have it fire just by pulling a triggering device. Amazed, he pulled out a piece of tracing paper and started copying the plans, his mind never wandering from that... he realised it now... girl who had been chasing him.
-
Vivienne walked slowly through the door of her home, in the dining room Ben and Bonnie where waiting.
"Vivienne Alexandria Bloom, you are late for supper" the white tigress sqaid sternly. Bonnie gave her a once over "go change and dry up, I don't want you soaking at my table"
Vivienne nodded tiredly as she raced up to her room...
"So, why did you leave in such a hurry, I had to hear a mouthfull from Tigerian..." Ben asked, Vivienne didn't reply right away as she shoveld pasta into her mouth "I thought I saw someone shady..." she said after she had swallowed "as it turned out, he was only meeting his lover" clever lie, she didn't want to uupset Ben and Bonnie anymore than she already had....
That night she laid in ben, in the light she watched the shadows of the heavy rain, her eyelids were heavy, but she was thinking of the figure she had only met earlier ..
-
Patch finished copying and almost fell into bed. Looking around him, he ramarked at what a small room he had. Nothing was in order, nothing was clean... well he took that back. The saxophone he had that sat on the mantlepeice was clean. He made sure of it. It WAS afterall, his life and living. He pulled it off of his stand and put the reed in. He had always wondered why it was him that the shadowy organization called on. His speciality was weaponized armatures, but still... why him?
Putting th reed hin he wetted the mouthpiece with his tounge.
Outside the rain had quieted down, and just over the pitter patter of the drops still falling, you could faintly hear a horn being played, old new orleans jazz radiating out of the small out of the way shop. About two hours later, the streets were totally silent.
-
**Morning**
Vivienne, sat at the dining room table, still half asleep, drinking coffe with cream. Bonnie placed eggs infront of her. Vivienne rubbed her eyes as she took a fork and ate the moatian of eggs, for a girl with a slender structure, she could eat alot. but she worked it off with the hard labor as a mechanic.
"Ben, I am gonna go to the tool shop real quick before I come to work...I'll meet ya there" Ben nodded "okay, don;t make me worry agaig Vie"
"yes sir.."
By foot, to the north bridge was a short walk, she passed by a crowds of people. looking around for someone cloaked..or something, something catched her ear, down the bridge a ways was a fur playing the saxephone beautifully...drawn by the music she quickly apprached, it was fox about her age, scaggily, a hat next to him with a couple of coins and dollars. she knelt down next to him
"You play beautifully..." she said
-
*Morning, at the bridge*
Patch looked up from his flatcap and saw this wavy haired snow leopard come up to him. He grinned, and waved his mechanical arm at the horn.
"Its not much of a living, but it works... have... uh... have i met you somewhere before? I recognize your voice..." he looked a little confuzzled, not yet realizing this is the person he was supposed to talk to, to which he spoke to last night.
-
Immediately she reconized the voice...she stared at him for amoment, her emerald eyes wide, she sighed "you...have the plans that you were going to give back, I need them please" she pulled her hair back into a pony tail, seeing that right after this she was leaving for work...but didn't he just say that he LIVED like this...Vivienne had an Idea..
"how about this, as making up to you so called bad choices, why don't you work with me as my partner...seeing that you probley made that arm of yours?"
-
Patch's eyes widened in recognition.
"Oh... yeah..." he looked down and reached into his vest pocket, pulling out the folded plans he had there. He handed them to her, and watched her as she pulled her hair back. Her features were striking, that was for sure, but he averted his eyes.
"Yes, i did make the arm... but where do you work? The Warehouse? I don't know..."
-
Vivienne smiled "well..." she opened the plans, her eyes widened for a moment as she saw that these were her own...her sighed heavily as she re folded them and placed them in her pocket "well, seeing as though you have returned my plans, I now have no choice but to hire you...I don't want people stealing them" she stood up "what do you say?"
-
He looked confused. "Soooo... I stole your plans and then you want to hire me? Ooookay?" he looked down at the horn.
"When do I start?"
-
"Now!" she hauled up the fox, he was much shorter than she was but she didn't mind, she pratically half dragged him down the bridge. a couple of guys from work who were makii\ng errans stopped "hey Vie, wanna lift?"
"yes, him too, he is my new employee!"
"right on"
the ride there was really quick. Vivienne told patch the rules and ropes of the place, and that if he stole anything again, she would seriously not be happy about it. Ben who was waiting outside the doors smiled "hey, Vie, who's the squirt?"
Vivienne smiled "our new co worker, hopefully you have room"
Ben smiled "sure do sweet cheeks, we always need the help"
-
Patch was not happy about being hauled along for the ride. It was all he could do to keep his saxophone from being dented up in the process, something to which he was VERY unhappy about. He didn't appreciate being called 'squirt' either. Putting his saxophone down somewhere were it wouldn't get damaged, he walked over to the work bench.
"Sooo... are we inventing? or just building?" he muttered to the girl. "And anyways, what IS your name? I haven't caught it"
-
Vivienne smiled "The name's Vivienne Bloom, mostly we just build but I sometimes I can get creative and invent, the big grizzley you saw is Ben Bloom, my adopted dad he keeps everything in order, your boss is Reginald Tigerian, we eat lunch at 12:30, its provided, we work until 5:30"
Vivienne was beaming when she showed the Fox tp her station "I work at building weapons! sometimes I work on the big guys but not usually" she blinked
"By the way, whats your name?"
-
"Patch... the name is Patch."
He sat down at the work station. Looking over the organized table, he picked up a tool and looked it over.
"Better than the stuff I have at my shop..." he gazed over to the big mechs. Standing up, he wandered over.
"What have you built this stuff with, paper, spit, and prayers???" he rapped on an armature and two bolts rolled off. he sighed.
"Okay... where do you keep the rivet guns and the spare metal." he said, puling his flatcap off and stuffing it into his back pocket. He pulled a wrench out of his side pants pocket and twirled it in his hand.
-
Vivienne sighed "yeah I don't like how they put it together either ... the scrap metal is in that room right there, don't get too bold, Tigerian designs most of the stuff here, its all crap basically these battle mecha's are gonna fall apart as they walk" she pulled out a couple tools and began working on the new project...the energy blaster she helped invent...with the overlooming whatch of Tigerian, Vivienne was nervous working on this one since she had to deal with unstable lightning energy.
-
Patch looked at the new weapon. "Your power conductor is unstable you know that right? You need to get a generator and not just power it using crude methods like the ones your using." he pointed to his arm, which wirred and clicked into a position. The hand opened and showed off a hole in the center. A click and a long tube like thing extended from the hole, and a second later it glowed blue. It crackled to life, lighting arcing off of it.
He clicked it back into position.
"Let me see what I can do with that power source." he said as he wandered over to the power modual.
-
"I know its unstable, and the generator we have is weak, a couple times it nearly shocked me, these are not my plans...this are Reginald Tigerian's mine would be much better..." she moved out of the way for Patch "go ahead, I need to see this thing right here real quick" she pointed at the automatic barrel gun she desinged. whiping out a screw driver, she began to focus...
-
The huge iron pipes hissed and gurgled morosely, a thick smog of steam hung in the air, swirling madly as engineers walked past. Kitt sat alone, back leaning against one pipe, feet jammed up against the other, eating what had at one time been a fresh piece of bread. It was now several days old, but smothered with a thick layer of butter. He ate it rapturously, as though he had not eaten for a long time.
A dark shadow suddenly cast itself over him, the owner of the shadow, a thick-set wolf, looked down at the young feline with a grin "Szarda?... Wonderin' where you got to. Theres been a leak down in sector J-772, by the storm-drains. Its up in the maintenance shaft, and we need somebody with your expertise to help..." Kitt jumped down from his hiding spot, landing on the steel-mesh floor with a loud clang. He swallowed the last of the bread, wiping butter from his lips and then licking his fingers.
"What you mean, is y'need somebody who is both small, and somewhat expendable to go clambering up into that death trap. Find the leak, dodge the scalding hot steam and watch out for the loose rung fifty three steps up that ladder, all to fix the leak..." The wolf's grin widened as the pair walked away down the corridor "All right except on one account... None of my team is expendable Szarda..."
-
Patch looked at the design. He took parts from the machine, taking it down to the bare bones of the machine, ripping out anything that seemed unstable. The power source was a MESS. The plans were even worse. It looked as if a two year old had drawn them in a moving car. He refined the design a ton, puttiing together a machine that would fire a single stream of dissintegrating energy into the enemies. About an hour later, the power source was hooked up. He dragged the machine to one of the mechs and attatched it, causeing a small ruckus. He started loading coal into the back of the mech, heating up the boiler in the back.
-
Vivienne watched as Patch dragged the machie over to one of the Mecha's, a few others watched in confusion in what he was doing...Vivienne smiled, she had a good idea of what he was about to do and just shook her head as she continued to work on the barrel gun. she noticed Ben out of the corner of her eye "whats the rookie doing Vie?" he asked, she chuckled, "juust watch..."
-
Patch jumped into the Mech pilot's seat with an air of calm and joy.
"Okay folks, lets show the crowd what we can do..." he said to himself under his breath.
"What crowd? Patch you need to stop pretending that your famous."
Patch groaned and tried to block out that voice. Curse that voice.
He fired up the engine, using the controls to lift the mech's right arm, the modified one. Walking to the back area, a fireing range, he aimed the rod.
He pulled the trigger and a bolt of lightning arced out of the cannon on the arm and blasted a hole through one of the target dummies. He frowned and turned down the steam, letting out torrents of the stuff out of the top of it.
He hopped out and made his way back to the design board, passing the looks of amazement.
"Fixed your stability problem." he said to Vive as he passed.
-
"I noticed" she said with a grin, Ben watched him walk by with an amazed look on his face "amazing...just like you" Vivienne rolled her eyes "my area is not energy and lightning and all that stuff, I like soild things, technical..not that" she grinned as she finished the last bit "there..boys! this ones ready to test!" a voice replied as a cat and a black lab came and retrived it.
-
The service shaft was hot, almost unbearably so. Dank steam rolled down the ladder from above, the cast iron slick with condensation. Kittrevksy climbed up higher, wiping a gloved hand across his forehead. He paused, hanging precariously on the ladder by one hand, looking down the brick-lined shaft to the small patch of light below "S'like an oven in 'ere boss! Tell 'em to try n' shut off the steam at pipe 38..." He continued with his climb, while up above came the sound of hissing and rattling iron...
-
Vivienne and Ben followed the boys over to the testing area. while most of them quickly covered their ears, Vivienne only crossed her arms and waited as they set it up.
"Okay boys, let her rip!" Ben Commanded, the deafening sound of gunfire echoed through the air, the bullets at blinding speed where demolishing the dummy and the wall behind it. finally the test ended, Vivienne though was satisfied. throughout the whole thing neither Ben or Vivienne barely flicked an ear.
"Excellent, put it with the others" Vivienne began to walk away, out of Tigirians office, a nervous looking mouse in lab outfit was frantically looking around, he held a white handkerchief to hit black nose. Vivienne groaned "Dr. Milo Mousekewitz is here with us today..." Ben looked over and sighed heavily "lets just hope he doesn't pee his pants again" the Mouse caught sight of Vivienne and raced over "Miss. Bloom, I would like to have a word with you" he had the proper English accent, he almost tripped over parts "pardon me sir" he said to the worker, who gave him a rather nasty growl. Vivienne pretend she was busy doing something, she didn't look up as she approached the table "what is it Doctor?" she couldn't believe that this nervous, mousy...Mouse was actually a Mad Scientist. "I came here to take a look at your plans for your latest invention.." the mouse fiddled with his hat as he took it off. Vivienne still didn't look up "whats about them?"
"I would like to see them... Tigirian mentioned you were designing something extraordinary" she looked up, she could see the giddyness in his eyes along with the obvious nervousness, she looked focused back at her work
"No" her reply was simple and clipped with irritation
-
Patch went back to the mech that he had test fired.
"This thing is a piece of junk!" he muttered to himself, starting to rip off pieces of armor plating. He attatched wierd gizmos to the mech that he was making at his work station. It took him most of the rest of the day, but he finally stood back, his grease covered paws resting on his hips. The mech had changed. The rusting bronze plating was gone, just the guts were left. A power source glowed blue from out back and the arm was wired with hoses and everything. Energy flowed freely down the pipes and hoses, causing the end cannon to glow from the inside. He moved the mech back to the hangar bay, and wrote in chalk on the side of the mech a checklist.
Arm fixed
Cockpit fixed
accelerators added
armor reattached.
he walked back to his station at the end of the day, picking up his horn and heading for the door.
-
Vivienne out of the corner of her eye watched Patch move like a jumping bean all over the place. while headed out the door by the end of the day, she stopped him "Come, lets get something to eat, my treat" she gave him a grin.
-
Steam gushed out of the broken valve, pouring like a mixture between gas and liquid down the ladder and service shaft. Kittrevsky gave the rusted metal valve a hefty whack with his wrench, the loud clang accompanied by a sudden quiet as the steam dissipated. He grinned, wiping sweat from his brow and sliding down the ladder recklessly. He reached the bottom with a thud and a cloud of brick dust, straightening up he slid the wrench back into his belt "Jobs a good 'un boss..."
The wolf nodded, slapping him on the back with one large paw "Good. That factory up top has been complainin' at me all day... Sayin' they aint got enough pressure. Well I reckons you can have the rest the day off. Just dont tell the lads, 'right kid?" Kitt grinned, nodding hurriedly and running back down the steam-filled brick tunnel, towards the exit. The wolf watched him go with a faint air of amusement, before turning and shouting at a pair of mechanics who where chatting idly....
-
The days at this point had been melding together. The dragoness walked down the streets, her claws clicking against the cobblestone streets as she did so. Her living bag, Patchwork, hung on her hip limply. With all the traveling, he seemed to be falling into a state of sleep, which she didn't mind. If he needed the rest, he should have it given how much he held for her on a daily basis. She patted him, somewhat lovingly, then stopped, her glowing yellow eyes peering from the shadows that her cloak cast over her face. She noted that this side of town had seen better days with a smirk.
-
"its your choice though" Vivienne began to walk back out, it was lightly sprinkling but the ground was still very wet, above she heard thunder rumbling, she waved to a couple of guys, before casually looking back at Patch before continuing.
-
Patched walked down the street back to the bridge he was playing on before. Back in his usual spot, he started playing again, an old New Orleans ditty that he learned. A paw tapped him on the shoulder, the non mechanical one. Patch turned to see a mouse in a cap, tweed vest, and a paperboy bag.
"Patch! Hey how is it goin buddy!"
Patch grinned, seeing his old friend Henry. Both of them had gotten on the same steam boat over to London, and they had been good friends in New Orleans when they left to find their riches.
"Pretty good! I got a job finally."
Henry grinned widely. "Congratulations! I knew you would get one of these days."
They laughed and joked around on the bridge for a while
((have to go to school, i am going to continue later))
-
At the bakery Vivienne bought a couple buttered croissants and a Cinnamon roll. she munched happily as she went to a bridge, this was not the north Bridge, she watched the boats doing their duties...since it was later afternoon and she had nothing else to do. the clouds still didn't clear away, at least it wasn't raining.
-
The cobbles where still slick with rain as Kittrevsky walked out of the underground steam-pipe station with the flow of other engineers. He looked skyward, noting the dark clouds that hung low over the city. Sighing, he belted up his thick overalls, slipping his bare arms into the sleeves and fastening the wide leather tool belt around his waist. Pulling his cap low over his eyes, Kitt walked out of the main crowd of workers and down to the side of the river.
The steel-grey water sloshed up against the brick sea-wall, steamboats chugging along in the centre, carrying loads of coal and iron to the city factories and steam-pipe stations. Kittrevsky jumped up onto the sea-wall, dodging the occasional spray of water as he walked along its length towards a great iron bridge that spanned the river width. He grinned, knowing just past the bridge was one of the best bakers in London...
-
The rain rolled off her hood as she continued on down the city. The rain seemed indifferent to her presence as it started to pick up from spitting to actual rain. She didn't quite have an agenda, but all the same, she needed to find a place to stay for the night, and she needed to start looking now given the time of day. She finally came to a bridge, seeing a snow leopard resting on the rail and watching the boats.
-
Vivienne happily munched on her Croissant, the warm, butter flavor was literally to die for, out of the corner of her eye, a hooded figure was staring right at her, she raised an eyebrow and cocked her head. to her this guy was odd and out of place, instead of fear, she was fascinated. she hid her curious smile, but she looked away when she saw a boat with recognizable cargo, she frowned as she saw the finest steel, iron and among other metals, she groaned "why can't we use that instead of stinkin bronze and iron mix..."
-
Henry looked sadly at Patch's mechanical arm.
"You know... i still feel sad about that day..."
"What." Patch said looking down at his arm. "The day I pushed your paperboy tail out of a truck's way and it crushed my arm? Don't mention it. I needed a subject to work my mechanical expertise on anyways. Who better than myself?" he laughed. Together they sat on the bridge, Patch playing, Henry listening and commenting on when Patch played a sour note, laughing together. They really were best of friends.
-
in an alleyway behind a building that faced the north bridge, two shadowy figures escaped, other furs watched curiously as they stopped and watched the figures run, the next second was a deafening bang and then a huge fire explosion that threw everyone near off balance...screams of terror as people watched with horror as the building burned....
-
Kittrevsky hunched over into his overalls. The first raindrops fell from the darkening skies. As he reached the the great iron bridge the rain started to fall more heavily, great fat droplets cascading over the streets, splashing into puddles that formed between the cobbles. The feline walked up onto the bridge, keeping an eye on the leopard who watched the river intently.
The rain fell heavier still, far away the deep bass roll of thunder boomed. The iron walkway was slippery and wet as Kitt walked casually past the snow leopard, fingers reaching expertly for the pocket of her trousers, a quick snatch and grab that often earned him the extra coins needed to get by.
---The bridge trembled, a loud explosion blossoming on the opposite side of the river, dark oily flames licking the sky. Kitt stumbled, missed the leopard's pocket entirely and smacked his head across the bridge railing. He swore loudly, hitting the wet cobblestones with a crunch as his worker's cap slid towards the edge of the bridge...

Rigor chuckled catching a sneak peek of a failed pick-pocket, but her chuckle was short lived when the explosion knocked her off balance. She had to catch herself from falling, but it didn't keep her from stumbling. She looked to the source of the sound with a scorn. She never liked being startled or taken by surprise, but scorn soon turned to enjoyment as she watched the flames dancing on the buildings remains. "Even obscure places have chaos." she muttered, reaching down to pat Patchwork again. His sleep had more than likely been broken by the loud noise.
-
the force threw Vivienne forward, hitting her stomach extremely hard against the bridge rail, knocking the wind out of her she coughed as her emerald eyes wildly looked for the source. people were staring to head towards the source, Vivienne wanted to follow but the air was still coming back. she held herself up with her hand on the bridge railing, clutching her stomach and groaning slowly she walked down the bridge.
-
Patch and Henry had just finished a rather rawdy joke, when the explosion sent ripples of water crashind down over them. Patch's hair stood on end, and he turned to see the fire blossom up.
"What in the heavens?" he spoke to himself.
Hmmm... that wasn't... Patch, I need your body for a few minutes.
"Wait wha.." but that is all he got out. He choked, closed his eyes, and his arm convulsed for a second. Then he stood up straight and tall, much taller than his slouch suggested. He looked at Henry.
"My friend over there... she needs help. Go give her a hand, my friend." he said in a business like tone, his slang long gone.
"Patch, buddy, what do you mean?" he said, but Patch just turned and ran off.
Henry shook his head, and padded over to the snow leapord and helped her up.
"Sorry, miss. My buddy Patch just ran off and he said you were a friend."
-
"w-what?" still coughing slightly, she notice a cat by her feet, she retrieved his cap and gave it to him "here buddy" she looked back at the fellow who helped him "who are you, what friend?" her eyes traveled back to the hooded figure what is going on!
-
Kitt took the cap begrudgingly "Thanks Miss..." He stood up, grumbling at the dirt now splattered over his overalls. The annoyance was merely a cover, for his overalls where as dirty as they could ever be, he was hoping she hadn't noticed the brief pick-pocket attempt. He sighed, finally done with pretending to clean his clothes, and looked between the leopard and the newcomer.
With a grunt Kitt pulled himself up onto the bridge railing, balancing precariously but with the balance of someone who was used to working in high places. He settled down, tail swishing below him. The conversation was more interesting to snoop in on, and it wasn't as if he was really going anywhere anyhow... Kitt shivered slightly, rain slid down his back and dripped off the peak of his cap, as across the river the dark flames continued to roil and burn.
The rain wasn't extinguishing the fire, which ruled out accidental steam-rupture in the pipes, Kitt mused over the explosion, mentally wondering which part of the steam-pipe network would be underneath the building, one ear still cocked towards the Leopard's conversation...
-
The hooded figure crossed her arms, continuing to watch the fire with a grin across her face. It was usually faulty technology that caused things like this to happen, but considering the rain had not even bothered it in the least, she assumed it was done purposefully with chemical combination. She stroked her chin, observing, and when people began to gather, she crept closer, still keeping a distance from the panicked crowd.
-
"your welcome...small one" she cocked her head to look at him with an emerald eye, she brushed the dirt from her front and stared at the flames, Vivienne knew she would read about it in the paper, she had no desire what so ever to go anywhere near the fire
-
Kitt growled, pointing accusingly "Hey! I 'aint..." He stopped, smirking "Didn't mean nothin' miss... But interestin' thing I noticed miss. That building aint on the steam-pipe network. There aint a pipe, nor' boiler even underneath it...." Still grinning, he looked between the Leopard and the burning flames. They had grown all the more ferocious, spreading across to adjacent buildings despite the heavy rain.
Two small boats raced up the river, red-painted iron hulls cutting through the water at considerable speed. Black smoke coughed from their chimneys, as they finally came to a slow halt beside the break-water. Pistons clanked and hissed, drawing up water from the river until enough pressure was built up, jets of water sprayed out onto the fire.
-
"Miss, you know my friend. He talked about you, the only other mechanic with a mind like his, except more physical. You gave him a job just the other day. My buddy Patch. But i don't know where he is going..." he said, looking off in the direction that Patch was running.
Shiro, the ghost of the recently dead Illuminati leader, inhabited Patches body and made him run to the safe house that he had set up. Flinging open the door, he dashed down the steps, dripping water on to the wooden stairs. He got to the door and a burly looking stoat stood there with a pistol.
"BOSS! We was wait'in for you's! Da crap's really hit da steamwoiks today. Da bois in da otha room, dey be wantin know wat happened. We ain't got no idea here, boss."
"Just open up. Let me talk to Reggie."
"Sure ting boss" the stoat opened the door, into a room full of papers and maps. Steam bellowed from the two pipes that went through the room. Furs were scurrying over each other trying to find out things. The beeping was tremendous, as furs got messages and relayed them back using the codes the Illuminati had come up with. On the wall, a pyramid with an eye was on the wall.
Shiro stood on the railing.
"WHAT is GOING ON!"
-
"Patch?! what is going on? what happened??" she looked down at the kid who was sent to check up on Vivienne, she still could not understand, why had the building blown up into smithereens? she put her hands on her hips, waiting for an explanation
-
Henry shook his head.
"I don't know. I got nothing. He doesn't normally do this."
-
When the furs started crawling over one another to get information, Rigor was taken aback. She didn't like people, so she made her way back to the bridge where it seemed less crowded. There was so much confusion and panic, a combination that always came together to make rumors, she wondered how exactly it would fair in the paper.
-
Vivienne ran her fingers through her wet mass of black wavy hair, sighing. "I guess there is nothing to be done right now..." her gaze went back to the hooded figure. she slowly walked past the kid and approached the hooded figure "you are the calm eye amongst the storm" Vivienne felt no fear, even though this hooded body gave off a strange vibe
-
The figure gave the leopard a stern look. "Excuse me?" Rigor was somewhat confused by her remark, but she remained there. "Look kid, once you come from a place full of chaos.." She looked back up to the fire and chuckled, "This is a walk in the park." Her tail fell and curled around her ankle idly.
-
Kitt watched the hooded figure with a faint air of interest, still sitting precariously on the bridge railing. He had pulled a heavily buttered sandwich from the deep confines of his overalls, he took large bite, mumbling through a mouthful of bread "Where would this, place of chaos be exactly?... Not Cardiff by any chance?" He smirked, takinganother bite. Today was turning out to be interesting after all...
-
Vivienne noticed the tail she found it strange but she still felt no fear, instead she had the sudden desire to want to touch the scaly looking tail, she nodded in reply, she gave the cat an odd glance but remained silent
-
Rigor shrugged, not knowing where this "Cardiff" was. "I came from the U.S. Things are pretty hectic there as the people are little thorns in each other's sides. It's an extreme rat race, and some places are so bad they have succumbed to disease or mob violence. The U.S. seems to be only a place of chaos and competition. Survival of the fittest and all that." She said in a not-so-concerned manner, flipping her wrist in a circular motion as if to remember something important.
-
"Ah, the big U.S of A?" Kitt grinned, swallowing the last of his buttered bread and licking his lips "Quite a bit of travellin' you did there then..." He jumped down from the bridge railing, instead lounging against the rain-soaked steel lazily "I don't mean to be soundin' nosey or nuffin' miss... But why you come all the way t' London then?" he grinned again, amber eyes glimmering.
"Was it th' stories of roads paved with gold? Th rumours that no one in London go hungry, nor cant find no job?" The grin fell away, a sour edge entering the young feline's voice "Cos' its all lies... Every stinkin' one of 'em..." The grin returned, along with his buoyant cheerfulness "But no matter there Miss... Dont mind me, just nosing about into other peoples business I am." He tilted his workman's cap, flashing a wide grin...
-
"Reasons of my own. No one told me any of that." She averted her eyes to the fire again. "So, what about that friend of yours?" She gestured where the other had ran.
-
"I don't know..." she replied, she thought about the USA. she really had no desire to go to the wretched place, Ben told stories of his time in that place. that somewhat ruined her dream to go. her green eyes also verted to the flames..."I wonder...if its one of those frequent accidents that been happening for the last two months..?"
-
Shiro ran over to the tall Ferret named Reggie. He grabbed him by the lapels.
"Okay, Reggie. What happened. We weren't supposed to attack there. There is no logical sense to it."
"Boss! That weren't us! Some group of nutjobs went and did it. The papers are gonna blame us sir."
Shiro spat a curse.
"Well, what are we going to do."
"Boss, its your call."
Shiro stood still for a few seconds.
"Lets lay low. See what the news hounds got."
-
over Paris France the sky darkened and the deafining sound of thunder rolled and clapped, once it was sunny and clear, the next it was a storm, the dark clouds had a hint of red to it , red lightning flashed, horrorfied furs watched as a giant bolt of red lightning struck the Eifle Tower, the air charged with electric energy and the wind blew wildly as everyone scattered in fear.
-
she looked at the two who were standing with her, she ran her fingers through her hair as it rained harder. she wasn't bothered by the rain, she suddenly moved towards the chaos "I am gonna see..." she stopped and turned to them "wanna come?"
-
Her eyes hadn't budged from the two as she stood there until the other had said, "wanna come?" She glanced at the fire, then to the girl again. "I may if the fools are quite finished climbing all over each other trying to get the juicy gossip of the day."
-
Kitt grinned, jumping down from the bridge railing. He was bothered by the rain and so, with a definite shiver, he pulled his oil-stained overalls closer around him "Sure... Not like I got anything better t' do..." He broke into a run, splashing through the large puddles that formed between the cobbles of the street. He tipped his cap as he caught up with her "The names Kittrevsky by the way. Most just call me Kitt..."
-
she looked at the other two and smiled "The names Vivienne Bloom, its a pleasure to meet both of you" she looked at the hooded figure "as for gossip, it will most likely appear in the papers tommorow"
with another loud bang, not as powerful as the first, more fire exploded up into the sky, Vivienne smelled the air, there was some sort of gas lurking in that building....and the source was even a bigger bomb of itself. "Oh my...we should prepare ourselves for the grand finale" she said warily. her voice gave away a hint of excitement
-
"Right you are Miss Viv'..." Kitt looked between her and the smoking wreckage of the building. Indeed, the two fire-fighter steam boats that had until then been hosing water onto the flames where retreating further out into the middle of the river, and firemen who had been inside the building itself where running and shouting "Hmn... It seems you arent the only one who guessed that-"
He was cut off mid-sentence, a loud explosion blotting out all sound. The ground shook and rumbled, men and women hit the ground for cover, as dark oily tongues of flame licked the clouded sky... A plume of black smoke rose into the air, flames now dying down to be replaced by thick choking ash...
Kitt stumbled back to his feet, still grinning "Jeez-louise, now that was an explosion..."
-
"WOW!" Vivienne's insane excitement flooded through her as the fire touched the heavens, people running in the chaos, journalist trying hard to report while dodging the embers. she smelled the air again, the source was blown, this building was a goner, the building collapsed to the ground with a loud crumbling sound. Vivienne was gonna go through the rumble once everything has died down for good
**************
in the shadowy office, two figures appeared through the door, the taller one spoke "it has been done sir" the figure sitting the chair watching the building burn from the window behind them, he smiled "good, now go await orders"
the shorter one bowed his head "Yes..."
-
Kitt set of at a run towards the wreckage and ruins, boots splashing through rain-swelled puddles. He shouted over his shoulder "C'mon! If we get there before the bobbies then we can have a good sniff around without no cops tryin' to stop us!" he grinned, reaching the end of the bridge he vaulted the railing and carried on towards the smoking wreckage...
-
"No doubt with misleading stories that just cover the mistakes of the force that governs you." Rigor scoffed, catching herself as the explosions shook the ground. Before she could say any more, the fellow that had been engaging with the snow leopard, Kitt, she thought he said, was bolting for the flames. A mischievous smirk crept onto the dragon chameleon's muzzle as she heard what he shouted. "Certainly isn't my place, but it seems interesting enough." She followed after Kitt, not looking back to see if Vivian was coming.
-
Vivienne immediately followed, catching up to the hooded one, then passing to run head to head with Kitt, she hoped she might find something useful to experiment with her shop, maybe find reanimates of the bomb that exploded, re make it and bring it as proof....
