this topic was fairly successful on another forum so i thought it'd be worth perhaps starting something here;
i've been a vegetarian going on 5 years now, and i just wondered what everyone's views on the subject as a general entity are. please don't see me as someone who's trying to force vegetarian viewpoints on you all, i don't have the time or dedication (or stupidity) to even attempt to do so. i do however celebrate everyone's opinions and am very interested.
to start... i went vegetarian because i was uncomfortable with eating animals. at the time i didn't see the justification with killing an animal just so that i could have a good meal, if there are things around to do the job which don't result in the farming of animals.

I'm a raptor 0:)
I believe it is folly to not eat meat for the sake of protecting an animal. Murderous carnivores are a natural occurrence in this world and have been since time could remember. There are even plants that eat meat out there so this is not something particularly relegated to the animal kingdom. Humans by nature are omnivorous creatures, at least since the advent of intelligence and choice. As I see it there's animals out there that would kill and eat me if they had the chance. Its my duty to see that they serve my needs before I serve theirs.
Yes I eat meat and I do so with a grin on my face

I'm a meat eater. Despite the fact that the meats I eat are mostly from the same animal. It seems pigs are my fave dish :D
Nah, if you don't want to eat meat, than who's to say you should. It's your life.

I eat meat, and I honestly couldn't imagine life without it, it is the best source of protein in the world, and without protein we do not develop at all near what we need to. I can respect the vegetarian standpoint, but that doesn't mean I like it (darn hippies) but ultimately, I will kill and eat a deer, and i will grow and eat a pepper, i do not discriminate against foods, but I can't envision a life with only one or another

I eat meat, though I have a hard time eating anything other than chicken, beef, or pork. Will occasionally eat fish if it's the fried and breaded kind. Otherwise, I can't stop thinking about the animal and it ends up making me feel sick to eat it. Deer, lamb, most kinds of fish, and birds other than chicken... just can't eat it. It's not really a conscious decision not to eat it, it's just how it happens for me.
I don't have problems with people who do or don't eat meat. It's a personal decision, and as long as you keep yourself healthy with it, it doesn't matter to me what you eat.

I eat meat, but lately I've been feeling sick of wanting to eat it. Its like, a few days ago I was gunna get myself a chicken sammich, but when i caught a smell of it, it made me think about where it came from and things like that, and I just felt sick and didnt want to eat it, I think I'm actually starting to not want meet at all, I actually feel bad when i eat it. Maybe I'm meant to be a vegitarian, I'm not to sure O.o.

meat all the way. its ok in nature, why not here?

I eat meat, If we stopped eating meat it is like stopping birds from making nest's

I generally eat type of meat or vegetable I can get a hold of. I am all for eating meat and I have sampled meats of various animals. Such as alligator, ostrich, kangaroo (not that great), buffalo and caribou. All of this can be bought at a local food shop here. I respect others decisions on what they eat but it is personally not my choice to be a vegetarian.

I'm not a fan of anything green or that grows on plants in general. If I could, I would probably only eat meat. The only thing I eat next to meat is bread. I don't have a problem with vegetarians (or vegans) because it's their own choice just as long as they dont get on my case about my eating habits...Like my ex-girlfriend. She was a vegan since she was 10. Why we started going out, I have no idea, but everytime I ate with her was a joke because she would always nag me about it and trying to make me guilty while she slowly ruined my porterhouse.
Well...That was the end of that.

I influence my life quite a bit with my philosophy and religion, so I'll explain a bit.
Also on another small note, one of my favorite authors (Michael Scott) seems to be promoting a vegetarian diet in his books, I don't have a problem with that, in fact it's inspiring me to want to try to go vegan, but anyway.
I totally would be vegan, but some meats just taste way to good. Like fish. And Mexican food. And Chinese food. Other than that I'll usually eat meat pretty normally and wouldn't care if it was gone from me, the only meat I blatantly dislike is pork, my religion isn't against pork like Judaism or Islam, I just generally don't like it.
Although for religion and philosophy, even though I think humans have degraded themselves a lot, I acknowledge that in accordance to my beliefs, we are the dominate species. Many people try to use this as excuse to just do whatever the hell they want with the Earth since they consider it theirs, but I think otherwise. I actually picked this philosophy up from a therian forum (I already kinda thought this way, I just didn't have much reason), so I say that since we're dominate, that means we have a responsibility to the world as well as dominance, so while we can use animals and the environment for our life, we still have to take care of what we don't need to use, and I believe that animals in particular are also our companions. Like with a leader, if a leader took his tax and just huddled up in his house, he would be a horrible leader. If he took some care of everyone but he overtaxed, he'd still be bad. If he took what he needed and took good care of the kingdom, he'd be a great leader.
Although I would love to be a vegan, I just can't do it. In fact I think I decided to become vegan a few times, then I was offered meat and just ate it anyway -_-

Mmm...
I try to eat more fish and almond/soy milk instead of real cow milk.
But meat is important to one's diet.
If you can substitute all the vitamins and such needed instead of eating meat, than power to you.
:'D

Two of my best friends are vegitarians, I don't really like some meat myself, but I do eat hamburgers at mc donalds XD and pepporoni so Not one myself. I do feel uncomfortable about the fact I am eating a slautered animal that was healthy :'(
I am a fan of seafood really, a lot more.
-
i eat meat, although i hate myself for it...
and before i eat i say a mini-prayer for the animal.
-
I eat meat but not much of it because I'm very picky. The only meat I eat is bologna (beef, not the chicken/turkey/pork mix), hot dogs (beef as well), and chicken tenders from BK (plain chicken doesn't taste good to me, and I haven't tried other places breaded & seasoned chicken to be able to judge whether I like it).
Same goes for vegetables. I only like pickles (for some reason I don't like their un-pickled counterpart, the cucumber, don't know why exactly), black olives, and green beans (if they're cooked correctly).
I have nothing against those who eat meat nor do I have anything against those who don't eat it. I do feel bad for the animals though because I'm such an animal lover, even if the animal is being killed for a good reason (like there being too many deer so if they don't get hunted they'll starve to death anyway). I'm just a sucker for animals.
Anyways, if I ever became anything, I would be a graindairytarian. lol. Most of what I eat is grains and dairy. It's not exactly healthy though (though I do get tons of calcium and some essential vitamins), so I really need to do better on eating the vegetables and fruits I actually like on a regular basis.

I don't mind eating meat because I know that my food had a chance to live a good life. (I don't like eating lamb because it is usually slaughtered young) I dislike the idea of vegetarianism because if everyone became vegetarian there would be no more need to have cattle and if we don't need cattle any-more then the farmers won't want them anymore because they will cost to much to keep and they will all get shot.
In other words, for every vegetarian meal you eat, a baby-cow dies. *Wonders if this statement will turn people off vegetables*

lol... please believe that i mean this in the least offensive way possible... but that's a load of rubbish. XD cows have other uses other than providing the world with food.

That's a load of rubbish
Ok, put in a better view point, I believe in the food-circle (The food-chain is flawed). Plants grow, herbivores eat the plants, carnivores eat the herbivores, carnivores die and their nutrients are returned to the earth, plants absorb these nutrients and the circle continues. The carnivore's role is to maintain the population of herbivores and prevent them from eating all the plants, which would break the circle. Mother nature wants us to be omnivores. That's why we eat meat and vegetables. By being herbivores or carnivores we're defying the will of mother-nature, something humans are very good at.
