Title: Which element would you bend? (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
Post by: Ruffie Tealet on August 12, 2010, 10:00:54 AM
Hello fellow furries :)

I watched The Last Airbender yesterday and I thought it was good, despite its bad reviews all over the interwebz.
So, if you could bend any of the 4 elements, which element would you choose and why? :)

Hmm, I would bend Air, because it is everywhere, i could just use it anytime i want without the need to look for a source or generate it myself.

Earth because it is just plain awesome.  And I also enjoyed the movie.

I think I'd probably go for Earth too, then I can control almost anything tangible :P

Can't I just be like the Avatar and bend them all?
No?
Well then I'd probably choose fire. My second choice would probably be water.

And the reason the movie got bad reviews is because M. Night Shyamalan didn't follow the TV series as closely as he should have. He had the actors pronounce the names differently because he said the show creators had them pronounced wrong. He made it so almost all firebenders (except a rare powerful few) have to have a source of fire to bend (which isn't so in the TV series). He changed how things went a lot (like how Aang is supposed to make this huge fish thing out of water that he's inside after the Moon Spirit is killed while the moon is red and attack the ships, but he made it so he just makes this huge wave to threaten the ships and doesn't attack at all) and he rushed the whole thing. And believe me, I know that parts have to be cut out to make the movie an appropriate length, but he just didn't do it well.

But I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy the movie, because I did. It just could have been better.

Water. There's just something about that element that I like.
I want to watch the movie, I just don't know when I'll get the chance. Still though, Prince Zuko with HAIR  o.O , and I'm guessing no Toph?

He had the actors pronounce the names differently because he said the show creators had them pronounced wrong.
Eastern/Western pronunciation of nouns differences. Aa/ah  I/ee  yoo/oo, things like that.

He talked about that change in an interview. He kind of felt it made firebenders overpowered when he was watching the show.

What!? No Koizilla!?!? :o  That's a major disappointment for me, and a bit anticlimactic.

There's going to be more than one movie. So no, there's no Toph in the one out right now, but she'll be in the next one (she should be anyway)...I wouldn't be surprised if he made her not blind though. lol.
And yes, there's no Koizilla. I was very disappointed. :(
I don't think it really matters if he thought it made the firebenders overpowering in the show though. He's making a movie from a show so he should follow how the show does things and not change things because HE thinks it should be different; if he was making something from his own mind and not off of a show, that'd be different. But that's just me and I'm not experienced in that business.

LOL, who cares, they should STICK TO THE SERIES, and casted more asian actors for the main roles. I could totally see myself playing Zuko 8D

TOTALLY FREAKING AGREED. *hugs tightly*

Well, for today's puropses, earth, because then you could also metal bend, and half of everything is metal these days.

Oh, but if he's an air bender, couldn't he have just made a bubble of no air around the fire lord and suffocated him?

No offense, but you shouldn't even bother posting if it's not a direct reply to any thing mentioned here. Seriously.

Even if he isn't really saying anything completely on topic, that's no reason to be mean to him about it and saying "no offense" doesn't make it any better.

I'd saaaaaaaaaaaaaaay... Wind.  :3

Have enough wind power and you can move rocks, spread fires, and make water tornado's of swirly DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  >:3
And in the movie it's the one that had the least amount of dancing WITH the greatest outcome.

My favorite part of the movie was:
6 earth benders all doing their little  dance thing in order to move a rock the size of a soccer ball... at maybe 2mph  ^_^

Nope, never watched The Sorcere's Apprentice. It looked,.. Bad.

But yea, I guess air would be the easiest because its everywhere, but if you got really desprate, couldn't you bend some water from your body? It makes up like 70% of it, all you'd have to do is make sure not to take too much out.

There's something kind of like that in the show. It's called "Blood Bending"... I think :? Basically you bend that 70% inside a person and turn that person into your little puppet. Other than that, I think Katara once used her sweat for bending once.

Normally yes but you'd have to have a good background of the human anatomy with even better knowledge of biology to know just how much water you can take out from
which part, and for how long. Considering out of that 70% about 50% is in body liquids such as mainly blood and intestinal juices ( o.O still sounds weird to say that...) you
could only take about a pint from your blood, and about a cup from your juices. And that's not including that complexity of your organs. Then getting the water out since some
have membranes that isn't water permeable... It would be interesting to see though!  :3

well each element is neither supior or not supirior to each other. I would have to go with bagua or taichi air or water respectivaly. because they are both internal or soft styles and they are my favorite to do irl.

Again sprry for necroposting.

I'd go with water. It can double as ice, so I get two elements in one. It's technically all over since your body is 70% water. The last time I checked anyway...And according to the series it has healing properties. I luv to heal.  ^_^

And I think it could have multiple uses...Healing for example is one. Body of water in your way? Freeze it and walk across. Or if you can't freeze it, you bend freakin' water. Who needs paddles! Water whips, maybe herd cattle? Or other farm like jobs involving livestock? Heck, even irrigate your farmland! And water is in the air, too...So another source right there, if you don't want to use your blood. Those are a few reasons I'd choose water. Though I think if I couldn't have that I'd go with earth...It's neat.

Well I cared little for the movie, but the television series was excellent!

I'm surprised there are hardly any other waterbenders here! :o

Water bending is such a versatile element! Not only can it be used to heal, but it can also be very useful in combat! Blood-bending and just drawing water from nearly anything are excellent examples of just how awesome it is to be a water bender!  XD

Bear in mind though, the healing abilities only apply to some waterbenders - not all of them have them (which is a shame).

I'd personally go for air. I'm not really much of a fighter (despite being a black belt XD) and I'd love to be able to fly!

And I would be able to bend steel, so amazing!

I have blood bending and I can heal people (I think).

But air is also nice.

It hard between Earth and Air.
Earth-
My fur is a sneaky type and trap-maker so earth would help by not only moving ground to lay some trap but fell someone coming from the tree or ground even when sleeping. Oh yeah, I would train my body hard core to be able to do that.
Air-
I dont care much to be on ground as I love the sky as the flying would come with it and yet, the air push me would make me goes oh soooooo much faster. I can just run next to some racing car and steal their stuff while they too shock form me. lol

Water or Fire...

Water: Because well it has a ton of sub abilities that make it fare more useful then the others

Fire: Because have you ever had a annoying mosquito that keeps flying around you ... and you never can seem to smack it ... well simple it goes like this ...

Mosquito: Hey ... Hey look at that person I'm gonna fly around his head and annoy the crap out of him....
Me: FUUUUU~! (incinerates a 50 ft radius around me killing said mosquito) ... thats better *walks happily on my way*

I'd likely be a Firebender, as I consider my element to be fire in general. Though honestly, it'd kind of suck to be one. It's not really as useful as the other three, and more serves for harming and warlike purposes. As seen from a few episodes of the series, Firebending is very dangerous. If you're not careful and well-disciplined, you can get burned and harm others. I'd probably want to learn from a master first to get my abilities in line first. I wouldn't even touch lightning bending though.

After I learned, I'd try to put them to good use. Maybe somebody has an old-fashioned stove? Fire girl to the rescue! There's a black out? Let's power the house using fire! It's totally freezing here? Don't worry, I'll make a fire! Though likely, I'd just casually be roasting random foods and eating them most of the time if I could Firebend. It'd certainly help me get more into cooking. (I'd also fireproof my house just in case)
