Ok, hate is a strong word but I mean it. Since i was young I always wanted to be something other than human (preferably animal). Basically what I'm asking is how many others feel this way? :?
-
Yea, same here and forget the naysayers.
Yea, life as a human is easier, but...
Ugh. People wouldn't understand it. IDK. XD
-
I would much rather live a life of hardship than live in a life of laziness and synthetic comfort

That is a completely different question than whether one likes being human. Consider house-cats: lazy, synthetic comfort, and not human. So, while I agree with not being crazy about being human -- we seem like a particularly poorly designed species on the whole -- I don't agree about that stance on hardship versus comfort. For one, it makes no sense to lump laziness into that dichotomy. It's perfectly possible to have synthetic comfort and not be lazy.
Also, if you're serious about preferring hardship to comfort, why not go out and join the Peace Corp or something? I'm sure there's lots of ways that one can find to experience hardship if one really wants to. Experiencing not being human, however... That's harder.

Something about human nature deters me, while animals have a more welcoming aura. That's the way it has always been for me. I'm merely cursed being one. If I were born and animal I wouldn't mind if my human intelligence was gone. The only fear I would have would be dangers created by the human kind. People hunt foxes (and other animals) for their own personal entertainment! >:(
Sorry if I'm bringing a negative mood to the forum :/

Most animals spend more time in fear of hunger than in fear of humans. I'm really not out to defend humans here... But, it just seems like you're idealizing animal life without giving it serious consideration. Some animals live happy, beautiful lives frolicking in forests and playing in streams. But most animals spend a lot of time hungry and hiding from predators (mostly not human ones, either). This is why, if I were an animal, I'd much rather be a house cat. I've seen the lives that my cats live -- they have a good deal.

Call me crazy but I want all of that. Although I'd rather be a predator
Post Merge: July 22, 2010, 05:56:01 AM
forget it... :(
I know all the things animals have to go through on a daily basis.
I'd live through all of it just to be either animal or anthro
-

Even predators have predators. For instance, foxes -- your species of choice -- have to fear wildcats, wolves, wolverines, bears and basically any other predator in their habitat that's larger than them.
-
huh... I know, I guess I'm not explaining it right. I don't care if I live in day-to-day fear of predators. I don't care if I'm starved. I know that I wouldn't be the top of the food chain. I'm not just some naive kid who thinks that being an animal is all an easy life prancing through the forest with a full stomach and not a care in the world.

Well, that's fine by me. I wouldn't want to join you though. Being hungry and scared isn't what appeals to me about animals. Either way, it sounds like we can agree that scientists need to get to work on inventing transmogrifiers.
-
As stated in a previous post, "splicing" could be a solution to mixing animals and humans. Although it would probably have to be done before birth :/

Which is part of why it wouldn't be as excellent as a transmogrifier box. Other reasons include: the transmogrifier is practically instant, seemingly painless, easily reversible, and not too large.

Whats a Transmogrifier box?

Whats a Transmogrifier box?
Oh... oh my goodness. You need to read some Calvin and Hobbes!

I recommend starting with the first book and reading all the way through every single one of them. Several times. Come to think of it... Maybe I should read through them again.

I don't hate being "human" ((I do consider my self at least a diffrent sub specias XD)) but umm yea I wouldn't want to be an animal, be an anthro type of animal yea. I don't hate humans,... well I do but not for there specias just the way they act.
But yea I do think we a horribly desighend in a way I mean why can't we have tails XD
-
not to be an [removed], but most animals die very young
-
I would want to be, I don't think I mentioned, an animal or anthro. I'm guessing Anthro is a good balance of the two.

Reasons i love being a human
*I can drink from a cup
*i can eat with a spoon
*I can play videogames without claws getting in the way
*i can take a shower without clogging the pipes
*I can kiss
*i dont have any fur where things can get stuck
*I can eat chocolate!!!
*we can speak without sounding retarded
Because when you think about it, Being human isnt that bad at all. :D you just gotta see everything on the good side of life :D
plus, if something like this would work it would take thousands of years xD and it would cost oh so much xD and think about how complex things would be? you wouldnt be able to tell who someone was because they might have changed appearence?
-
Sorry must kill reasons :P

This thread is... interesting. Honestly, I can see where TaNn3R is coming from. Sacrificing some of the convenient pleasures we have in life would give you a more "down to earth" feeling. It's the reason human's go hiking and camping, it's nice to return to nature and take things in natural time instead of the forced regiment of human deadlines.
-
I feel the exact same way. Nice to know other people feel this way too.
-
well put fenrir
-
Thank you. It is nice to know that there are others who feel like this.
-
*waves paw*
hey! nother one over here
wouldn't want to be totally animal, but allways wanted to have a tail/ears/fur/muzzle and/or talk to animals. Always been a dream of mine :D
-
meh toosh
-
^_^
Like I mentioned previously I would want to be an animal or an anthro
-
I have to correct this because it annoys me a bit.
Humans ARE animals.
You mean you want to be a different species of animal, or you want to be a combination of two animals. (human + other animal)
I know, I'm picky, but it ticks me off when people say "I dun wanna be human, I wanna be animal!"
You. Are. One. Already. Damn it.
Not directed entirely towards you, but to everyone who says that. I'm not trying to be mean here. XP
Anyway, I have wished I could be another animal. I'd like to see what it's like as a bear, or lynx, or rat, or any creature. Hell, I'd like to know what it's like to be a tree. It would be cool to see life from a non-human's eyes. But I do think it's best to stay human. It's the species I was born as, and I will stay as that until the end of my life, and who knows what's there? Maybe there is when we can finally see what life is like as another animal. I'm not sure if that will happen, but we'll just have to wait and see for ourselves.
-
Why don't you try explaining that to the rest of society
-
I know this may not entire contribute to the subject at hand, but I would love being a cat, regardless of the fear of predators/starving, or the comforts of being a house cat. I don't know but that's something thats been on my mind.

Oh my gosh I love that series! Totally one of the best ongoing series I've read!

Please stay on topic.

Okay sorry I'll stay on topic . My bad :/

I've been watching this thread develop all day, and it's getting really frustrating to watch.
First of all i'd like to return to the point made earlier that humans are animals, and that's been bugging me all day too.
Something about human nature deters me, while animals have a more welcoming aura. That's the way it has always been for me. I'm merely cursed being one. If I were born and animal I wouldn't mind if my human intelligence was gone. The only fear I would have would be dangers created by the human kind. Out of interest, what do you think would be better about animal nature ?
If anything it's worse being an animal and having to deal with other animals as they'll all either want to kill you, or fear being killed by you. Also animals pay no attention to animal rights, so thats a bucket load of protection out of the window right from the off,
If the whole "living in constant fear" and being mostly starved thing isn't an issue then i'm sure the military could find a role for you somewhere.
Further on you go on to say that you'd prefer to be an anthro creature of some sorts, and this is where things start to get really peachy. On the one hand you're the only anthro creature on the planet crossed with something else to result in a living "furry" in which case, great, but i'm guessing the chances are pretty high that if you're ever seen and captured, you'll end up in some form of research centre with test done on you for the rest of your life. On the other hand, if the whole world went furry, then there would be a tsunami of hate spread everywhere. At the moment people are racist enough just by going on the basis of where someone is from, or the colour of someone's skin. Now imagine the degrees of hate that would spread if it weren't only based on where people were from, but if that cascaded down into the species people were, the breeds within that, and i'm guessing colour would still play a role in that too. The whole world going furry doesn't even begin to cover the issue of how the population is going to feed itself as unless you have some arbitary judge of sentience then you would end up with all the chicken anthros and cow anthros etc, being born into a life of slavery. Unless of course arbitary selection for sentience somehow means that you'll get your intelligent cow anthros, and "normal" cows too as we're used to today.
I also fail to see how your being an anthro animal is going to resolve anything. Yes you'll be all fuzzy and furry, but once the novelty of that wears off, i'm pretty sure that you'll end up getting annoyed and frustrated with the quibbles of day to day life as it is now. As i mentioned before, if everyone turns furry then they'll find more reasons to hate one another, so you solve the problem of hating life as a human, but spawn a load of other problems with that. If you end up turning wholly animal on your own, then you've got a life of constant fear ahead of you, which like i said before, can be easily replicated as a human by joining the military or living in a war-torn location. Tie that in to predation and no medical service to cater for you, dying young is pretty much a given, and if you end up just body-swapping to an animal tomorrow, retaining your human mind and memories, then chances are you'd end up dead faster still.
I don't wish to put a downer on your topic or your ideals, but it's been frustrating me all day, especially the notion that just gluing fur to yourself, chopping off your thumbs and abandoning the fruits of human evolution, is going to solve everything.
-
You're right, humans are animals. But you also have to understand that what (I think) TaNn3R is saying, is that he would be willing to sacrifice some of the intrinsic benefits of human life, (electricity, easy transportation, medical care) in exchange for greater freedom and slightly more natural way of living.
And I'd like to state that organized war is a very human invention, and wouldn't provide the equal tradeoff that adopting (primitive) animalistic customs might. Instead of granting you greater freedom, all it would do is further confine you.
-
Humans are not the only animals that go to war. Ants definitely do, and there's some evidence that chimps do also. It's really more that humans (and ants) are the only species with massively large enough societies for their violent attacks on each other to be labeled as war.
"If ants had nuclear weapons, they would probably end the world in a week." -- Edward O. Wilson
-
forget what I said before, I hate seeing my own words used against me. :/
What I'm trying to explain is that I know all the ups and downs of being an animal and I'm either fine with that or good with being an anthro.
I know what I said, but please don't hold it to me
-
Agreed. It's your topic.
-
This is getting locked before it turns into more of an argument than it already is.
