Title: Steam driven industrial wars
Post by: Kitt_R_Beesley on July 21, 2010, 11:58:01 PM
the day had dawned bright and cold. the news headlines rang of terrorist attacks by the anti revolutionaries and the counter mesures used to prevent them. Most people were out and about begining their day in the morning fog. Down town London was as bustleing a city as ever, motorist were lining the streets, fashion wares finding their way from shops to costomers waiting hands, the sound of steam tools shaping new buildings and other steam driven technologies.

Seamus sighed loudly, walking down the bustling streat. He really didnt want to go to his class. He was almost out but had to. He looked at a mixing set through a window. He bit his lip in want but moved on, tail on.

Dante walked down the empty cobblestone road, fog doing it's part and making it difficult to see passed ten or so yards. He was walking in the downtown area, though a more run down look was poured into the it. It was pretty much the ghetto. His tan trench coat flapped about in a sudden breeze, it was refreshingly cold. The breeze also cleared the veil of fog a bit, granting Dante a glimpse of something going on in a nearby alleyway. He could make out several silhouettes of people striking another one on the ground. Distorted laughter and jeering echoed through the alley and flooded the empty streets. He watched as he walked, it was evident it was a mugging, but he didn't care; it wasn't his business. A few of the figures stood up, what appeared to be eyes...Staring at him. It was like you could see through their eyes, they were glowing a bright white, that of headlights on a car, just staring. Two of them walked towards Dante, stopping at the mouth of the alleyway with their arms crossed. They didn't want him to interfere. They probably would have done something more than mean mug him as he passed, but Dante had a very large wrapped up, belted cross on his back, which kept the muggers from starting something by pure intimidation. Dante looked away from them, losing interest now he just kept walking into the fog, eventually fading from their sights. The two likely went back to beating the man as screams ran through the streets again.

Digging around in his coat pocket he eventually pulled out a piece of paper. He looked up from examining the paper, examined a building before him and looked at the paper again. He tucked it back into his pocket and walked up to the door. Dante walked inside and down a stone staircase, passing a fox couple making out on the steps. The two looked barely like teens. He payed no mind to them as he reached the bottom of the staircase and stopped at a steel door. He knocked twice, prompting a small peephole to slide open. He was eyed from the other side through the slit that had opened.

"Whadd'ya want?!" Spoke a man on the other side.

His voice was hoarse and deep, almost echoing in the stairway. Dante said nothing, he just raised his hat, lowered his sunglasses and looked at the man. Nothing was said for a moment, only the sound of music and other various noses came from passed the door.

"Dante..."

The door opened and Dante walked in. He looked at the badger who was on the other side of the door who closed it after he came in. "The boss'll see ya upstairs like usual." Dante still said nothing, no nod or anything to show he understood what was said. He simply turned and walked towards the other side of the room. In the room were a few pool tables at the far side, a bar to his right, a stage with a female singer in a flashy red dress that revealed a bit of her legs on the right. In front of the stage were several tables filled with wooing men, almost drooling on themselves at the sight of the female feline on stage. The room had a distinct lingering smell of alcohol and cigarette smoke smothered the roof in an immensely thick fog. Dante walked passed the pool tables, catching a few eyes from players waiting their turns as he came to a door. At the door were two black suited men. A wolf and Tiger. The wolf stepped forward and stopped Dante.

"Weapons."

Dante walked to the side of the wolf to a small table that was next to the door. He swept back the right side of his trench coat revealing a holstered magnum. He slid it out of it's holster, the light of the room reflecting off of it's pristine white steel coating. Before setting it down he spun it on his finger, the barrel reaching almost passed half of his forearm. He then took the cross from his back, flinging it over his shoulder through the smoke near the ceiling cutting it like butter as he put the longer part of the cross onto the ground. There was a loud "Thunk" as the cross hit the ground, managing to throw off a nearby pool player's shot. It drew a lot of attention, but Dante wasn't particularly interested. He went back to the door, before entering he was patted down by the wolf. The wolf let him pass, opening the door for him. It led to another staircase made of stone. He ascended them and went through the door at the top. Upon entering he drew several eyes of men with guns nearby the door. The room seemed much more fancy then the other, red carpet, chandeliers and a small band playing in the corner. It was a peaceful song, with violins, piano, base. It was a small orchestra. Dante looked at the large table that was in the middle of the room, it was occupied by many exquisitely dressed men.

"Ah, Dante. Your here." spoke a Raccoon at the far end of the table.

The raccoon gave a slight wave of his hand over his shoulder whilst wiping his mouth with a cloth with his free hand. A female fox walked up to Dante and handed him a thick envelope.

"Details and half the pay is in the envelope like usual. It's a pretty high pay, must be something tough." spoke the woman.

Dante said nothing, pocketed the envelope and left the building. Once outside he opened the envelope and took out another note and a stack of cash. He read the note, it was directions to somewhere. He pocketed the cash and note then disappeared into the morning fog.

Cory yawned with boredom as he polished his armor and morning star.  He hadn't had work in weeks, and he needed something to do.  He was running out of cash.  The badger put his armor and helm back on and slid his weapon into the loops on the back of his armor.  Cory sighed and stood up from the couch in his small, shabby apartment, then left the room, locking the door behind him.  He might as well keep looking for work.  He needed a war, or a paranoid VIP or something.  The badger left the building and stood on the curb.  He pinned a poster advertising his expertise on the wall behind him and waited.

In the streets, the alleyways were like mazes, and inevitably, some of them ended up in the shady parts of town. One of those shady alleyways led to a market; a black market, to be precise for anti-revolutionists and other ne'erdowells. The revolutionists and government often didn't fraternize with this section of town, mainly due to one reason: Fear.

Mortis sat at a table where gambling went on, her chips laid on the number 13. "Aye, that lad's going to try again, the poor soul, everyone knows 13 doesn't breed for chips," one of the participants laughed. The chameleon continued to sit there, ignoring their taunts and when the roll was over, the bank took her chips. She had been very careful to blend in with the crowd, pulling an old cap over her eyes to keep hidden and her coloring being a sandy brown like most lizards seen in the place. After a few more rolls she stood up and walked away, bumping into a few people on the way to the exchange, apologizing for being so unobservant. It was there where she would change in her chips for money. A smile broadened across her face as two stacks of chips slid out of her sleeves and into her palms.

"Mmmm, who says lucky 13 won't breed?" she laughed, sitting her stack at the opening, receiving cash for it. She quickly tucked it away into her pockets and then pulled out a few wallets she had managed to steal while bumping into people, taking the money from them and carelessly tossing them on the floor behind her. The crowd was so big in the building, it was hardly a noticeable act, especially when the cigarette smoke was so thick near the ceiling that it only managed to aid her cover. She loved the thrill of stealing. She had been doing it for so long now, she was practically invisible when she committed the crime; she had figured out how to use everyday accidents such as bumping into someone to her advantage, using it as an opening to take what she wanted. As she stepped outside, the tossed the hat and overcoat to the side of the alleyway, it was something she had merely used as a ruse, and she no longer needed it. Her colors also shifted from her dull browns to her usual dark gray, yellows and oranges, with swirls on her eyes.

"Ah, life as a thief couldn't get any better." She put her hands back into her pockets, securing her profits of the day, "You always get what you want." The chameleon sighed happily and began to look around, "A bit foggy tonight. Seems mother nature likes to lend a hand every now and then. Though, today had been a good start." Her fingers danced in her pockets as if to enjoy the mere presence of the money. She then proceeded to pull the money out and replaced it back into a pouch on her tail for safe keeping.

"Wonder if anyone's looking for a theif.. Or a forger for hire." Not only was she a thief, but she was also skilled at impersonation. While the steam technology was advanced, it couldn't keep up with everyone's identity, which often came in handy for her. Unfortunately, identity theft was an easy crime to commit, if you knew what you were doing. She plodded off into the fog until she bumped into a canine in a long coat. "Oy, sir, watch where you're going," she said, brushing herself off. As she bumped into him, she had managed to snag something and place it into her pocket without him noticing. It was an envelope, she guessed from how it felt.

Dante saw the Chameleon ahead of him as he walked, he figured she would just move out of his way. But she didn't, they bumped into each other. He didn't say anything when she told him to watch where he was going. As he walked on he put his hand in his pocket, he noticed something was missing. Cyrus, his pet Ferret. Cyrus had been using the envelope as a new place to sleep in Dante's pocket, and when Mortis pilfered it she took Cyrus with her. He turned around and walked after her, taking the note from his pocket to examine it. Along with the address on the note was a name, "Mortis". He figured it would be a shot in the dark, but still worth to look in to. But as Mortis examined the envelope Cyrus popped out. Still more than half of his body was in the envelope as he stuck his head out to look around. He had a brown face, almost black, his body was a faded tan color, like a dusty white. Cyrus looked Mortis square in the face, he was visibly tired but coming around. He noticed he wasn't with Dante, rather in the hands of a stranger. Cyrus panicked and jumped at her. He landed on her head, but her scales made it hard to grip onto anything so he slid off her and on to her tail. He caught a small pouch strapped to it, he clawed into it to get a grip on it. but it soon fell off and he leaped to the back of her shirt and dangled a bit off the coat tails. He climbed up her back and over her shoulder, slipping off again. But he managed to grab onto a pocket on her chest. Gripping onto the only other thing there, he grabbed her pocket watch, making it fall out of the pocket and swing him about. By that time Dante had caught up, he grabbed Cyrus from the watch and held him up to his face. They both stared at each other for a moment.

"I thought I told you not to wander off...Especially with thieves..." spoke Dante in a seemingly angered tone.

He set Cyrus on his shoulder and looked at Mortis. Then to the watch that he slipped off of her.

"Mortis, master thief and top notch impersonator, Chameleon, female...I've been told you have something I need, I was going to your address to get it and some information on the next part of my job." Dante's voice was deep, but not a frightening deep.

He handed Mortis the note with her name, information on her and her address on it.

Somewhere in the lower part of town a loud explosion was heard.  Many citizens ran to the source of the noise, fearing that the terrorists were attempting another attack.  They gathered around a small building which seemed to be pouring black, oily smoke from every nook and cranny.  It was the local workshop, where the public would drop off their machines to be fixed.  In the back of the shop was a massive hole, still billowing with smoke.  Inside the building shouting and crashing could be heard.

Then, a noise...the sound of steel pounding on concrete.  The sound repeated itself in a pattern as it got closer to the hole.  A few citizens backed away from the hole, feeling that being too close may be the last thing they ever did.  Then, a massive steel leg stepped out of the smoke...then another...then another.    The machine loomed out of the smoke like an oversized tarantula as the citizens ran in every direction.  Atop the steam powered spider, a white fox covered in grease and soot was cackling.   His mission was a resounding success!  Inside the cockpit of the spider were all sorts of widgits and gadgets...some dangerous, others benign.

He aimed the spider's built in cannon at a group of incoming police and fired, sending them in every direction as the explosive cargo detonated on impact.

"OH YEAH!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!"  The fox cackled again as he took off down the street with his cargo.   Another group of police followed him in steam powered cars as they began their chase.  The fox looked over his shoulder at the incoming force and only laughed.  Pressing a few buttons on his dashboard the spider stopped, and four of the eight legs elevated over the machine and began to rotate like the blades of a helicopter.  The spider took off from the ground, leaving the police helpless on the ground.

The fox looked down at them and shouted.  "SEE YA LATER FLATFEET!!  YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ENTARU!!"

Seamus quietly watched, keeping himself from running away. He took out two small viles and quickly mixed their chemicals into one vile. He tossed it at the spider machine, but barely missing as it hit the empty street and let loose what looked like a lavender flame which began to rush around like water poured on a flat counter. The comotion aided the spider in its escape. The tiger cursed at himself and slipped into an alley, knowing how dangerous they can be but needing an escape so he wouldnt be accused.

The chameleon giggled at first as the ferret jumped on her and slid everywhere until it hung from her pocket watch and the owner snatched it up. She immediately snatched the watch out of the canine's paw, as if irritated he even touched it. "The only sticky fingers around here should be mine, if you don't mind, SIR." She gingerly tucked the pocket watch back into her black dress vest's pocket, the chain taking its place back hanging and disappearing into the slit of her vest as she clipped it back into place. She looked the canine over, weary. She didn't like people who offered her jobs, and it often made her suspicious due to the few incidents where her "employers" had actually used the job as a ruse to actually catch her and turn her into the law. Those "employers" were just like this canine in the sense that they knew things about her when she was approached. She didn't like that. She took the paper, and looked at it, then looked back to him. "Depends. Who is your employer and what's in it for me? What do I have to do, eh? Thieves don't work for free."

She wasn't quite on good grounds with the revolutionists since she had been hired many times by anti-revolutionists to steal plans for both chemicals and machines from the revolutionists, and therefore considered an anti-revolutionist because of her affiliation; but in all honesty, she just went where the money was. She wasn't about to take a job from a revolutionist this time around, though. Being around revolutionists was like running around in a minefield without a metal detector, and she didn't see the  sense in that when the anti-revolutionist's money was just as spendable and came with extra benefits.

Dante was a bit annoyed with Mortis, normally his jobs didn't involve much conversation, nor did they involve women...

"My employer is a very powerful mob boss, that's all I know. I was told you have something for me..."

He knew he wasn't going to get far with a thief without putting forth a bit of cash, so he dug into his pocket and pulled out the wad just grabbing a chunk out of it. Not having counted his money he didn't really know how much was there, it was actually a few grand. He probably just held up a fourth of it to her.

"You're cute, but all I need from you is from you is what I was sent to get. If you choose to*Checks her out*...Do something more...It's up to you."

As he talked to her he heard the explosion off in the distance, followed by sirens and a faint whirring. Though it was all far off, so it wasn't too loud, but he heard it anyway. But he figured sirens would frighten her, so he was a bit uneasy, hoping she wouldn't take off.

The chameleon jerked at hearing the sirens, but brushed it off after she realized that they were much too far off to be after her. She took the wad of cash from the canine, pulling down a few of the lenses on her eye to inspect its genuineness then grinned and stuffed it into one of the pockets on her tail. She then opened her vest where she pulled out a folder full of various information she had stolen from different places on a certain man. Doppler Friegman. A scientist of sorts. Before she started to hand over the folder, she jerked it back, just short of the canine's reach. "So what do they have you doing? Anything I can make money off of." She was smirking. In all seriousness, she would tag along if there was something in it for her.

Cory jumped a little as a nearby explosion shook him.  The badger smiled.  Perhaps now he would have a chance of being hired by someone.  He headed toward the sound, stopping by one of the police officers.  "May I offer my assistance, sir?"  The officer, a german shepherd, turned to the badger.  Cory showed him his credentials, and the officer nodded.  "Consider yourself hired, Mr. Sims.  Our suspect appears to have an affinity for machines and the like."  He handed the badger a file.  "Here's his info.  There's not much, but maybe you can figure something out."  Cory glanced at the file and chuckled.  This was going to be fun...

Post by: Srgntcuddles on July 23, 2010, 03:33:12 AM
Dante was just about to grab the file when Mortis yanked it away. He didn't really feel up to playing games, but he still needed her on this job so he had to play nice. But that wouldn't be hard.

"Alright, miss Mortis. I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to be kidnapping someone, that file there will tell me who and where. Now if you feel it necessary to join me, I can offer you another sum of cash, or something...Else." As he finished his sentence he gave a low flirty growl.

Cyrus, still on his shoulder, facepawed. Dante was up to his antics as usual. He was always flirty and seductive around women, especially ones he found attractive. He did it so much you might think it was something clinical, but he got it from his father. They were both quite the womanizer, but Dante was more of a gentleman about it than his father.

"Now...The documents, if you don't mind." said Dante holding out his paw.

Seamus dashed through the alleys. Not being horridly streetwise, he had no clue where he was going. The alley lead to a street where another one was found, and so forth. Eventually he found himself dipping into shadier parts of town but not hitting the rumorred "black market." He was fearful and paranoid, glad that his possestions where in inner coat pockets as he stopped and leaned against the wall. He panted loudly and was sweating heavily.

The problem with Mortis was that she was terribly greedy. "Excuse me if I don't like furballs that much," she said, handing the folder over, "but I am interested in money." Sometimes she wondered what was wrong with her because a lot of the time she never spent her money. She just stole it to be stealing. She also wondered just how much the canine had, her fingers itching to snatch up whatever was in his pockets, but she digressed.

"This way, fuzzy, and if you don't mind since I had no chance to make an introduction, how about you make yours? If you can't tell me a name, I'll give you one." With that she gestured for him to follow her. She felt an uneasiness as if they were being watched, and if that were the case she was sure that she could lose the observer if she needed to, though she couldn't be so confident about the dog trailing her.

Dante shrugged when she basically said he wasn't her type. He had to use his money to talk, which he expected, but he had to try his luck anyway. He grabbed the folder and tucked it away in his trench coat. When she told him to follow her he did. Then she asked for his name.

"Dante...So where are we going? Your place? I thought I wasn't your type."

As he said that he caught a scent of something. It wasn't that of the usual muggers or people that walked around. It was faint but it smelled like a dragon. As he sniffed Cyrus bit him on his ear, getting his attention off the scent.

"Oh, and this little guy is Cyrus."

Dante followed close behind her, still minding the scent

Mortis merely ignored the dog's obvious passes, and sighed, leading the way. She figured that he felt the uneasiness, too but wasn't sure. As she walked on, she took a difficult route, dodging between vendors, taking side alleys and climbing things to get through them in almost impossible manners. She was used to this though, as this was her usual route home. It wasn't long until they came to a small condemned shack. It didn't look too fancy, and a lot of the essentials looked functional, but old and broken. She climbed up a stack of crates in a side alley and disappeared into a broken window. It seemed to be the only entrance into her house, as everything else was nailed shut. It didn't look like a soul lived there.

Seamus eeped loudly and kept flat against the wall, happy he hadn't been seen by the two. The teenager walked out timidly into the street they had been on, looking around. He gulped and began to walk down the street. "Crap... I'm so late..."

Dante followed Mortis the entire way. Through her twists and turns, crawling after her through the small nooks and crannies until they got to the window. After she went in he followed and looked around.

"So...this is your place, eh? It's...Cozy."

He took the folder out of his coat, opened it and started reading through the papers. He read over a paper with a picture of an older looking white man, going bald in the center of his head. He wore large glasses too. He began to read the information on the page.

"Doctor Doppler Friegman, Lead scientist on a project "Black Arrow". Works for L.E.W. London Experimental Weapons. Hmm..."

Dante flipped through some more papers, his eye catching another one.

"I'm supposed to kidnap him apparently."

He sighed deeply and looked at Cyrus who was looking at him from his coat pocket.

"Well, this'll be a tough one. Break into a government facility, kidnap a scientist, and get him out...Think you can handle that, Cyrus?"

Luke flew over the route that was being taken taking as much cover as he could. When they entered the building he crouched behind the window and listened in he then entered uninvited and spoke in a mysterious manner. "it seems we have a common goal mister dante" he smiled as he spoke not giving anything away.

"Seems like you could make a lot of money if you play your cards right... Maybe dupe your employer for more money." A devilish grin was smeared onto her face until someone else entered the house. She slipped her valuables in a secret spot before turning to speak to Dante when something caught her eye. It was a black figure entering the room. As he landed inside, the chameleon's face went solemn. She didn't invite this crack pot here, and she had a feeling that this was probably the guy who was watching. "No trespassers allowed, don't you know? This place is condemned." Before another word could be spoken, she pulled her clothes off in one quick motion, her genderless body exposed before it melted into the environment of the empty room. She was invisible thanks to camouflaging herself. She leaped silently, holding onto a beam above with her tail, waiting for a weak point to present itself to her from the figure. Whatever he had wanted was between him and Dante, and it had seemed as if she had fled.

Dante kinda sat there for a moment when Luke had entered. When he heard Mortis rip her clothes off he looked over to only find she had vanished. He turned back to Luke and in the same motion he pulled his giant cross over his shoulder and smacked him back through the window with it. After that he jumped out after him and planted the cross into the ground.

"Don't you know it's rude to enter someone elses home uninvited? I mean seriously, you just interrupted me. AND you scared her off." he jested while unbuckling a buckle on his cross. The straps that held the cloth on the cross shot off and the cloth fell to the ground revealing a shiny steel weapon underneath. Dante lightly punched a part of it opening a compartment with several pistols inside. He took out to of them and pointed them at Luke.

"Now you can talk...Who are you? How do you know my name? And why shouldn't I kill you?"

Luke landed hard on the ground although unharmed there was a bit of un-expected force in the hit "i am luke an assasain on a personal mission to steal a certain technology from your target I know your name because I followed you here and you shouldnt kill me because one i know where your contact is..." he pointed to the beam mortis was hanging from "and two i could help you kidnap the old geezer as long as i can keep his research... also those pistols wouldnt even dent my scales so it would be a pointless waste of ammo"

Dante chuckled in amusement as he stowed away his pistols. He flung back his coat with his right hand revealing a holstered magnum. He slowly drew it out, it's shiny white steel coating glinting light from the surrounding area. Pulling it all the way out he pointed it directly at Luke and squeezed the trigger letting off a single shot. The bullets he fired from his magnum were customized to penetrate up to over an inch of solid steel. They were very expensive so as to why he only shot one, besides, it would hit it's mark. Right into Luke's heart. But if that didn't work he would fire at him with his barrage of weapons built into his cross. First he would gun him down with the Gattling gun, if that didn't work, the rocket launcher and if THAT didn't work he'd go at him with the pistols. And if that didn't work, he felt Mortis had the same disposition towards him as he did. Dante didn't see what Mortis was packing, but that's what made it scary.

Luke took the shot into his chest wincing slightly he then batted the magnum away with his wing then held the blade on his other wing against Dante's neck "now why shouldnt i kill you and your little pet cyrus for damaging my armour and my scales?" Luke sighed calmed down and pushed dante off of him backing away he then turned to dante and smiled "the way i see it kidnapping a goverment scientist is risky at the best of times and your gonna need two things: intel and a distraction and the intel your not trying to steal seems a pretty small price to pay for that... or I could simply warn them that your coming and help them in return for the research and leave you dead in the process... either way you wanna do this im not fussed" Luke smirked and stretched his wings "your choice"
